Atlantic City seats at a glance
If you want the biggest production, buy for Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall, which seats up to 14,770; if you want to be close, buy for one of the casino halls, where even the back rows sit nearer the stage than the far end of a full arena. That trade-off between scale and closeness is the main seat decision in Atlantic City.
There is no major-league team here. Instead, nine operating casinos compete for weekend visitors by booking concerts, comedy and combat sports, so a city of this size carries an unusually heavy entertainment calendar. Most of the big bookings land on Friday and Saturday nights, and hotel rates rise and fall with the lineup.
- Arena scale: Boardwalk Hall for major tours, multi-night band runs, ice shows and boxing.
- Casino arena scale: Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena, about 7,000, and Ovation Hall at Ocean Casino Resort, about 5,000 seats.
- Theater scale: Borgata's pair of rooms, holding roughly 2,400 and 1,000.
- Outdoors in summer: beach concerts and Borgata Festival Park, which holds about 4,500.
Boardwalk Hall: choosing a section
The building at 2301 Boardwalk opened in 1929 as the Atlantic City Convention Hall and was named a National Historic Landmark in 1987. Its past includes the 1964 Democratic National Convention, a Beatles concert on their first American tour that August and decades of Miss America pageants. Inside is a pipe organ with more than 33,000 pipes, counted as the largest musical instrument in the world.
The room is long and tall, which is the key fact for your seat. At an end-stage concert, the far end of the hall is a long way from the performers.
- Best overall: lower-level side seats toward the stage end, which usually show more than floor seats deep in the room.
- Floor: worth it near the front; far back, your view depends on the people ahead of you.
- Multi-night runs: compare every night before buying, since demand is rarely even across a run. The fall 2026 calendar included a Phish stand from October 2 through 4, the two-day Atlantic City Comedy Festival on October 9 and 10, and two Disney On Ice dates on November 6 and 7.
Capacity changes with the layout; a hockey setup, for example, drops the count to about 10,500. For smaller events, the hall also has the Adrian Phillips Theater inside the building.
The casino concert halls compared
Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena
This room first opened in 1990 as Etess Arena inside the former Trump Taj Mahal. After the property became Hard Rock, it returned in June 2018 as Hard Rock Live, with capacity raised to about 7,000 from 5,200. It books major tours as well as boxing and mixed martial arts. The lower seating and the front of the floor draw the strongest demand, yet the rear sections remain far closer than the back of a full arena.
Ovation Hall at Ocean Casino Resort
Ocean's Boardwalk showroom seats 5,000 and books headliners across rock, pop, country and stand-up. As with Hard Rock Live, a centered lower seat is the safe premium choice, and a rear seat is still a reasonable view.
Borgata Event Center and Music Box
The Marina district resort dates to 2003. Its Event Center seats about 2,400 for concerts, and its Music Box seats about 1,000 for music and comedy. Acts that fill arenas elsewhere sometimes choose these rooms for a closer show. In a hall this size, a seat near the center line is a better buy than a front-row seat at an extreme side angle, which can miss part of the stage production.
Ringside, risers and fight-night seating
Boxing and mixed martial arts cards play both Boardwalk Hall and Hard Rock Live. Floor seats around the ring are the most expensive tickets in the building. The catch is that fans on the floor often stand during big moments, which blocks the rows behind them. Seats in the first rows of the raised risers frequently give a clearer, uninterrupted view of the ring for that reason, and they let you see the whole canvas rather than one corner.
When the Atlantic City calendar peaks
- Summer: the high season. Beach shows, Borgata Festival Park and the yearly Thunder Over the Boardwalk airshow, which pulls hundreds of thousands of spectators, add to the casino lineups, and hotel demand is at its height.
- Fall: one of the strongest periods for indoor shows, with comedy festivals and multi-night band runs at Boardwalk Hall and the casino halls.
- Winter: ice shows and comedy keep the arena active, and midweek rooms are easiest to book.
- Holiday weekends: Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day and New Year's Eve often bring big names to the casino rooms, and tickets and hotel rooms tighten at the same time.
Train, jitney or car to the shows
Philadelphia lies about 60 miles to the northwest, and New York City is around 125 miles north.
- NJ Transit rail: the Atlantic City Rail Line runs from 30th Street Station in Philadelphia to the Atlantic City Rail Terminal, next to the convention center and a few blocks from the Boardwalk. As of 2026, the final train back toward Philadelphia departs around 10:51 p.m., which may be before a late show ends. Confirm the schedule at njtransit.com.
- Jitneys: the AC Jitney Association offers a free shuttle from the rail terminal to the casinos, and its minibuses also cover local routes.
- Car: the Atlantic City Expressway brings you into town. Drivers headed to Boardwalk Hall can use the Arena Garage directly beneath it (enter from Mississippi Avenue), or two neighbors: the convention center's deck and the Wave Garage on Fairmount. Prices change from event to event, and the hall suggests booking a space ahead on ParkMobile.
- Air: Atlantic City International Airport is about 20 minutes away, and Philadelphia International about an hour.
Staying close to your show
- Midtown Boardwalk: Boardwalk Hall is in the middle of the Boardwalk, within walking distance of the convention center, the rail terminal and several casino hotels.
- Boardwalk resorts: Hard Rock and Ocean keep their halls inside the property, so dinner, the show and your room can all be under one roof.
- Marina district: Borgata is away from the Boardwalk, so if you stay on the Boardwalk, plan a car, rideshare or jitney.
- Book both at once: on major concert weekends, casino hotel rates climb with demand, so securing the room and the ticket early tends to work out better than waiting.
- Check age limits: some casino showrooms restrict ages for particular shows, so read the listing.

Frequently asked questions
Is Boardwalk Hall or a casino hall better for seeing a concert?
Boardwalk Hall holds up to 14,770 and suits big productions, but its long room puts the far end a good distance from an end stage. The casino halls hold about 1,000 to 7,000, so most seats are closer.
What is the best seat for a boxing match in Atlantic City?
Ringside floor seats are the closest and cost the most, but fans there often stand. The first rows of the raised risers usually give a clearer view of the whole ring.
What time is the last train from Atlantic City to Philadelphia?
As of 2026, the last NJ Transit train toward Philadelphia leaves around 10:51 p.m., so a late show may need another ride home. Check the current schedule before you go.
Where do you park for Boardwalk Hall?
Directly underneath it, in the Arena Garage, reached from Mississippi Avenue. The convention center deck and the Wave Garage are short walks away, and pricing depends on the event.
Does Miss America still take place at Boardwalk Hall?
No. Boardwalk Hall hosted the pageant for most of its run, but after 2019 it moved to Mohegan Sun.
