What Mohegan Sun Arena is
Mohegan Sun Arena is the 10,000-seat arena inside the Mohegan Sun casino resort in Uncasville, part of the town of Montville in southeastern Connecticut. It opened in October 2001 and books arena concerts, comedy, WWE and AEW wrestling, mixed martial arts, college basketball tournaments and special events. Because it is a casino venue, it often hosts big-name acts in a room far smaller than the arenas they play in major cities.
The quick seat answer: the lower level is where to be. Its center sections, 14–17 and 23–26, give the best side views, and for end-stage concerts the floor straight back from the stage is the closest option. The upper level is compact, and its front rows near center are good value. Seats behind or right beside the stage are the ones to skip.
The arena is also the home of the WNBA's Connecticut Sun, which moved in for the 2003 season. In May 2026, the WNBA and NBA approved the team's sale to Tilman J. Fertitta and its relocation to Houston starting in 2027, so the 2026 season was planned as the Sun's last in Uncasville.
How the sections are numbered
Two seat guides, RateYourSeats and TicketIQ, describe the same layout:
- Floor: for end-stage concerts, floor sections are numbered 1 through 8. For basketball, courtside seating uses letters and short codes, along with table seats.
- Lower level: sections 11 through 28, rows A through U. TicketIQ places the center sections at 14–17 and 23–26, corners at 13, 18, 22 and 27, and ends at 11, 12, 19, 20, 21 and 28.
- Upper level: sections 101 through 122, rows A through M. Center sections are 105–108 and 116–119, and the ends are 101, 102, 111, 112, 113 and 122.
For basketball, TicketIQ places the Sun's bench in front of section 15 and the visitors' bench in front of section 16. For end-stage shows, it lists 11, 12 and 28 below and 101, 102 and 122 above as the behind-the-stage sections, which are usually not sold or are sold as limited view. RateYourSeats adds that facing the stage or court, seat numbers in a row run low to high from right to left, and that upper-level entry tunnels open at row C.
Best seats for concerts and comedy
End-stage concerts
- Floor: the closest seats. RateYourSeats points to the center of the floor, straight back from the stage, for the best balance of distance and angle.
- Lower level, sides: sections 15–17 and 23–25 give an elevated side view without a crowd in front of you.
- Lower and upper ends facing the stage: the far end of the arena, opposite the stage, faces the production head-on. In a room this size, a straight-on upper seat there shows the full lighting and video design.
- Upper level, sides: 106–108 and 116 are the recommended side picks upstairs. Sections 105 and 119 are closer to the stage but more sharply angled.
Comedy and in-the-round shows
Comedians perform on an end stage but rely on faces and timing, so the closer lower sections near center beat a distant head-on seat. For center-stage concerts, the arena's center sections on both sides are the strongest picks.
Seats to avoid
- Sections immediately beside the stage, where you see the side of the set and lose the screens.
- Upper-level seats right at a tunnel opening (row C, per RateYourSeats) see foot traffic all night; rows A and B in front of the tunnels avoid it.
- The back rows of the upper corners, the farthest seats in the building.
Basketball and other sports
For Sun games and the Big East women's basketball tournament, which the arena has hosted since 2021, the center lower sections behind and across from the benches (14–17 and 23–26) are the best views. Upstairs, center sections 105–108 and 116–119 are good value. Seats behind the baskets usually cost the least.
Capacity for basketball is 9,323, and the arena has hosted five WNBA All-Star Games (2005, 2009, 2010, 2013 and 2015), UFC 35 and UFC 45, and regular Bellator MMA cards until that promotion closed in 2023.
Parking, entrances and arena rules
Parking is free. Mohegan Sun offers more than 13,000 complimentary spaces. The Indian Summer Garage connects to the Autumn entrance of Casino of the Earth, the Riverview Garage to the Summer entrance and Casino of the Sky, and the Winter Garage sits outside the Winter entrance. Hotel valet runs around the clock, and an upgraded Riverview Reserved parking option is available.
The arena has two entrances: Earth, by the box office, and Sky, near the Arena Club. Increased screening can slow entry, so arrive early.
Bags and banned items
As of 2026, the arena bans backpacks, string bags, diaper bags, shopping bags, messenger bags, briefcases and rolling bags, and guests are subject to searches of bags, purses, coats and hats. The arena posts no size limit for small purses. Also banned: outside food and drink, umbrellas of any size, strollers, laptops and tablets, selfie sticks, professional cameras and any audio or video recording.
Re-entry and ages
- Re-entry is generally not allowed. If you must leave early and return, an usher has to scan your ticket out first.
- Every guest needs a ticket except children under 24 months on a guardian's lap. Guests 12 and under must be with a legal guardian.
- The arena is smoke-free, including restrooms.
Rules change, so check the arena's policies page before you go.
History: a casino arena that punches above its size
Perini Building Company built the arena, which opened in October 2001 with 30,000 square feet of configurable exhibition space. The Mohegan Wolves arena football team played here in 2002 and 2003, and the Connecticut Sun arrived in 2003. The National Lacrosse League's New England Black Wolves called it home from 2015 to 2020.
The arena also hosted the Miss America competition from 2019 to 2022, the Naismith Hall of Fame enshrinement for the class of 2020 and, in late 2020, the fan-free college basketball bubble known as Bubbleville. The Sun's sale was announced by the Mohegan Tribe in March 2026 and approved by the league in May; the team played the 2026 season here before its planned move.
