It is home to the Utah Jazz and Utah Mammoth.

Salt Lake City's arena, back under its first name

The Delta Center is the indoor arena at 301 West South Temple in downtown Salt Lake City, home of the Utah Jazz (NBA) and the Utah Mammoth (NHL), and the city's main stop for arena concert tours. It seats 18,186 for basketball. For the clearest view of a Jazz game, aim for the midcourt sections: 7 and 18 in the lower bowl, or 112 and 132 upstairs if you want the same angle for less.

If the name sounds dated, that is because it is the original one. The building opened as the Delta Center in 1991, became EnergySolutions Arena in 2006, Vivint Smart Home Arena in 2015 and Vivint Arena in 2020. A long-term agreement with Delta Air Lines, announced on January 14, 2023, restored the Delta Center name effective July 1, 2023. Searches, old ticket stubs and some maps still say Vivint Arena; it is the same building.

Owner Ryan Smith's Smith Entertainment Group (SEG) runs the arena and is partway through a multiyear rebuild aimed at making a basketball building work properly for NHL hockey. That matters for seat choice, because the hockey layout has changed every season since 2024.

How the Delta Center seating bowl is numbered

The layout has two main rings, and the numbering is simple once you see it. Section numbers below were checked against the RateYourSeats section list and the TickPick Jazz seating guide.

Lower bowl: sections 1–22

The lower ring wraps the floor with single- and double-digit numbers. Sections 7 and 18 face each other across midcourt, with 6 and 8 and 17 and 19 on either side of them. The low teens (around 12 and 13) sit at one end, and the sections near 1 and 22 close the loop at the other. The Jazz bench sits in front of section 6 and the visitors' bench in front of section 8, according to TickPick. Rows in a center section such as 18 run from lettered rows A–E at the front to numbered rows 1 through about 23 behind them.

Upper bowl: the 100 sections

Upstairs, three-digit sections run around the building; RateYourSeats lists 103 through 137, and TickPick's chart runs from 101 to 140. Sections 112 and 132 are the upper-level midcourt sections, directly above 7 and 18.

Clubs and suites

Wikipedia counts 56 suites and 668 club seats, and courtside and front-row club areas line the sidelines for Jazz games. Club names and perks have changed with sponsors and with the renovation, so check the description on your ticket rather than relying on an older chart.

Best seats for Jazz games, Mammoth games and concerts

Basketball

The sideline sections 6–8 and 17–19 are the premium lower-bowl seats. Rows 10 to 20 in those sections are high enough to see over the benches and courtside fans while staying close. If you want to watch the Jazz huddle, sit opposite the bench; the higher rows of 17–19 look straight across at it. The end sections behind the baskets are cheaper, but the stanchion and the glass shorten your view of the far end. Upstairs, the low rows of 111–113 and 131–133 give the full court at the best price-to-view ratio in the building, which SeatGeek and TickPick both point to as the value play.

Hockey

The Delta Center was built for basketball, and its first NHL season showed it: a rink is longer than a court, so some upper end seats could not see one or both goals. TickPick still marks the upper end zones as partial-view for hockey. The 2025 rebuild extended the lower bowl 12 feet at each end and raised the floor, and SEG says every lower-bowl seat now has a full view of the ice. For Mammoth games, choose the lower bowl first, center ice (7 or 18) if you can, and treat upper end sections as a last resort until the remaining phases are finished.

Concerts

For an end-stage show, the center floor and the lower sections angled toward the stage (6–8 and 17–19 on the sides) give the closest elevated looks. Lower sections directly facing the stage take in the full production. Avoid the sections right beside the stage, where speaker stacks and the set edge block the screens, and the upper sections behind it, which are often not sold at all.

Delta Center capacity by event

The answer depends on the event, and for hockey it has been moving:

  • Basketball: 18,186, a figure the 2025 renovation did not change.
  • Hockey: 12,478 official capacity for Mammoth games in the 2025–26 season, after Phase 1 added more than 1,100 lower-bowl seats. Earlier references list about 16,020 for hockey, a number that included seats with poor views of the ice.
  • Concerts: about 20,000 with floor seating.

Phase 2 work that began after the 2025–26 season adds terrace-style seating ledges and suspended gondolas, with Phase 3 changes to the south end planned after the 2026–27 season. Expect the hockey number to rise and the chart to change again; SEG expects work to continue into 2027.

Parking, TRAX and rideshare downtown

TRAX

Light rail is the easiest arrival. UTA TRAX stops at Arena Station on South Temple, directly across from the building, and rides that begin and end inside the Free Fare Downtown Zone cost nothing. Parking at a park-and-ride station farther out and taking the train in avoids the postgame garage crawl entirely.

Parking

The Jazz list more than 10,000 parking spaces within two blocks. Lots named on the team's arena page include Park Place (50 North 300 West), Salt Palace Parking, The Gateway, the Triad Center, City Creek and the Hyatt House garage. As of the 2025–26 season, most lots no longer accept cash and prices vary by event. Accessible parking is first come, first served in the Park Place lot northeast of the arena. A 450-stall premium garage was scheduled to open before the 2026–27 season.

Rideshare

Passenger drop-off and rideshare use 300 West. After a game, traffic can block pickups there, so walking a few blocks before calling a car is usually faster.

The Delta Center bag policy and entry rules

As of the 2025–26 season, the Delta Center does not allow bags, including purses. The exceptions are diaper bags and medical bags no larger than 14 x 14 x 6 inches, which are X-rayed at Door 5, and clutches or wallets no larger than 4 x 6 x 2 inches. This is stricter than the clear-bag policy many arenas use: a clear stadium tote is still a bag here.

  • Tickets: all digital, with SeatGeek as the ticketing platform for arena events.
  • Doors: 90 minutes before tipoff or puck drop for Jazz and Mammoth games.
  • Re-entry: not allowed at Jazz games; for other events it is at management's discretion.
  • Prohibited items: backpacks, strollers, umbrellas, selfie sticks, outside food and drink, and cameras with detachable lenses, among others.

Check the arena's policies page before you go, since rules shift during the renovation years.

From the 1991 opening to a hockey rebuild

FFKR Architecture designed the arena, which cost about 93 million dollars and opened in October 1991. Oingo Boingo played the first concert that month. The building's peak basketball years came with the 1997 and 1998 NBA Finals against the Chicago Bulls. During the 2002 Winter Olympics it was briefly renamed the Salt Lake Ice Center.

A renovation of about 125 million dollars, finished in 2017, upgraded the fan areas. In 2024, Smith brought the NHL to Salt Lake City; the Utah Hockey Club played its first regular-season game here on October 8, 2024, beat Chicago 5–2, and later took the Mammoth name. The arena is also expected to host Olympic hockey when the Winter Games return to Utah in 2034. More history is on the arena's Wikipedia entry.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Delta Center the same as Vivint Arena?

Yes. The building opened as the Delta Center in 1991, carried the EnergySolutions and Vivint names from 2006 to 2023, and returned to the Delta Center name on July 1, 2023.

What is the capacity of the Delta Center?

It seats 18,186 for basketball and about 20,000 for concerts. Official hockey capacity was 12,478 for the 2025–26 season and is expected to change as renovations continue.

Can I bring a bag into the Delta Center?

As of 2025–26, no bags or purses are allowed. Clutches up to 4 x 6 x 2 inches and diaper or medical bags up to 14 x 14 x 6 inches are the exceptions; check the arena's current policy before you go.

Where should I park for the Delta Center?

More than 10,000 spaces sit within two blocks, including Park Place, The Gateway and City Creek, and most lots are cashless. TRAX to Arena Station, free inside the downtown zone, avoids the traffic altogether.

What are the best seats for a Jazz game?

Midcourt sections 7 and 18 in the lower bowl, roughly rows 10 to 20, give the best overall view. For value, the low rows of upper sections 112 and 132 show the full court from the same angle.

Can I leave and come back in during a Jazz game?

No. The arena prohibits re-entry for Jazz home games, and for other events re-entry is up to event and arena management.
