Pensacola's arena, formerly the Pensacola Civic Center
The Pensacola Bay Center is the county-owned arena at 201 East Gregory Street in downtown Pensacola, a few minutes' drive from the Pensacola Bay Bridge and the beaches beyond it. It is home to the Pensacola Ice Flyers of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL), and it books concerts, comedy, family shows, wrestling and college basketball tournaments. It seats 8,082 for hockey and up to about 10,000 for other events. For most events, the lower level along the sides is the best choice: close to the floor, with a raised view over the crowd.
The arena opened in 1985 as the Pensacola Civic Center. The Escambia County Commission renamed it the Pensacola Bay Center on October 18, 2012, as part of a citywide rebranding. Many locals still call it the Civic Center, and the building, seats and parking are the same.
How the seating is organized
The Bay Center is a mid-size bowl with a flat event floor. Seat-map guides such as RateYourSeats group its seating into these areas:
- Floor: portable seats or standing room on the arena floor for concerts and shows; not used at hockey, when the ice covers it.
- Lower level: the fixed seats rising from the floor on all sides, closest to the action at every event.
- VIP tables, Concourse Club and Club Level: premium options with more space; VIP tables are among the most comfortable seats in the building.
- Upper level: the higher seats above the concourse, with the overview and the lowest demand.
The arena does not publish a written section guide, and section numbering on resale maps varies by event, so check the seat map for the event you are buying. Wheelchair-accessible seats are sold at every price level, with one companion seat per accessible ticket.
Best seats for Ice Flyers games, concerts and shows
Ice Flyers hockey
Sit on the side of the rink in the lower level. Rows a little up from the glass give the cleanest view of passing lanes and both goals; the first rows are close to the hitting but look through the glass at the far end. Corner seats in the lower level are a good compromise, and the end where the Ice Flyers shoot twice gets more of the scoring chances. The season typically runs from late October into early April; the 2026–27 schedule, for example, opens October 30 and closes April 2.
Concerts
For an end-stage show, the floor is closest, but on a flat floor everyone shorter than the person in front loses part of the stage. The lower level on the sides near the stage is the safer pick for a clear view. Seats at the far end face the stage head-on and show the full production at a lower price.
Family shows
For shows staged across the whole floor, a raised seat beats a floor seat. Mid-level rows of the lower level take in the full floor without craning past the people in front.
Seats to avoid
- Sections beside or behind an end stage: limited views, if sold.
- Upper corners: the farthest seats, with a steep angle to the floor.
- Back of a flat GA floor: for a sold-out concert, a lower-level seat sees more.
Pensacola Bay Center parking and directions
Parking is adjacent to the arena, and it has been cashless for all events since October 21, 2023, so bring a card or phone wallet. Two bus stops are near the building. Patrons with disabilities can be dropped off at the Alcaniz Street entrance, which also handles accessible parking and entry; the arena has a limited number of accessible spaces.
- From I-10: take I-110 south to the Gregory Street exit (exit 1A); the arena is on the left.
- From Gulf Breeze and the beaches: cross the Pensacola Bay Bridge and continue straight onto Gregory Street for about a mile; the arena is on the left.
- Payment: concessions and merchandise also take cards and mobile wallets only.
Check the arena's directions and parking page for the parking map before you go.
Bag policy and entry rules
As of 2026, the Pensacola Bay Center allows one bag per person no larger than 12 by 12 by 6 inches, or one small clutch purse of about 6.5 by 4.5 inches, roughly the size of a hand. The bag does not have to be clear, but it is searched, and every entrance uses metal detecting. Diaper bags and medical bags are allowed after screening. The arena will not store items, so anything prohibited goes back to the car.
- Prohibited: backpacks, waist packs, umbrellas, outside food and drink, strollers, noisemakers, signs and banners, and professional cameras.
- Doors: usually 60 minutes before start time.
- Smoking: not allowed in the arena or concourses; a smoking area is outside the main entrances.
Read the security procedures page before you go.
Capacity, history and the arena's future
The arena holds 8,082 for hockey on a 200-by-85-foot rink and up to 10,000 for other events. Ground was broken in 1983, and it opened on January 21, 1985, at a cost of about 20.5 million dollars; KISS was the first band to play it. Bon Jovi drew the largest crowd in its history on February 4, 1989, Janet Jackson opened her Rhythm Nation World Tour here in 1990, and Van Halen and Britney Spears both started tours here. Michael Jackson rehearsed in the building for weeks in 1988.
Hockey has been the anchor tenant for most of its life: the ECHL's Pensacola Ice Pilots played here from 1996 to 2008, and the Ice Flyers since 2009. The arena has hosted Sun Belt Conference basketball tournaments since 2021. As of April 2026, city and county leaders were weighing a renovation plan estimated at about 189 million dollars, including a practice ice facility, along with new event space; no final decision had been made.
