Upcoming Les Misérables dates

Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.

Where Les Mis plays in 2026, and the seat to want

As of October 1, 2026, Les Misérables has no Broadway production and no listed US tour. The one English-language sit-down company is at the Sondheim Theatre in London's West End, now booking into October 2027. The North American tour that began in October 2022 was set to end in Boston on June 28, 2026, and it no longer appears on the Broadway League's tour list. The concert staging, The Arena Spectacular, finished its world tour at Radio City Music Hall on August 9, 2026. Any US dates that go on sale appear in the event list on this page.

When the show does play, the seat to want is center orchestra from about the eighth row to mid-house, or the first rows of the mezzanine. Les Mis is carried by its score and its crowded stage pictures, so a full view and balanced sound count for more than sitting at the lip of the stage.

Orchestra, mezzanine and the seats with catches

Center orchestra, middle rows

This zone gives you both the faces in solos such as "I Dreamed a Dream" and the whole width of the barricade. It is where demand concentrates, and it usually costs the most.

Front mezzanine

The mezzanine (the first balcony) is the value pick for this show. The barricade battles, the lighting and the projected backdrops all read clearly from a little height, and front-row mezzanine seats often beat the back of the orchestra.

Seats with catches

  • The first few rows: intimate, but you crane up at a tall, deep set and miss part of it.
  • Back of the orchestra: the balcony above can hide the top of the scenery and some projections.
  • Far sides on any level: the angle turns you away from the center of the barricade.

On Broadway, the last two runs played the Imperial Theatre on West 45th Street, a Shubert house of about 1,457 seats with an orchestra and a single balcony. Large touring halls often add a second or third tier; there, stay central and as low as your budget allows.

Valjean, Javert and the barricade

Les Misérables is a sung-through musical, meaning almost every line is sung, adapted from Victor Hugo's 1862 novel. Jean Valjean leaves prison in 1815 after 19 years served for stealing bread, breaks his parole to build a new life, and spends decades pursued by the police inspector Javert. Around them are Fantine, a factory worker driven into prostitution; the scheming innkeepers, the Thénardiers; and the students whose uprising ends on the Paris barricades.

Length, age advice and intense moments

The London company gives a running time of 2 hours 50 minutes with a 15-minute intermission. It recommends the show for ages 7 and up and does not admit children under 3.

Know what is coming before you bring a child:

  • gunfire, smoke and flashing lights, mostly during the barricade scenes;
  • the deaths of several main characters, one of them a child;
  • poverty and prostitution in Fantine's story;
  • crude comedy from the Thénardiers.

In practice, many families find it lands best from about age 10, especially with a child who already knows the songs.

Four decades on stage in Paris, London and New York

Alain Boublil conceived the piece in the late 1970s with composer Claude-Michel Schönberg. A French concept album appeared in 1980, and a staging at the Palais des Sports in Paris followed. Producer Cameron Mackintosh commissioned the English version, directed by Trevor Nunn and John Caird, with lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer. It opened at the Barbican on October 8, 1985. Reviews were mixed; audiences were not.

London has never let it go. The production transferred to the Palace Theatre in December 1985 and to the Queen's Theatre, since renamed the Sondheim, in 2004. No musical has run longer in the West End, and it reached its 16,000th London performance in February 2026.

  • Broadway, 1987–2003: opened at the Broadway Theatre on March 12, 1987, moved to the Imperial in 1990 and closed after 6,680 performances, with eight Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Original Score.
  • Broadway, 2006–2008: a revival at the Broadhurst Theatre, 463 performances.
  • Broadway, 2014–2016: a new staging drawn from the 25th anniversary tour, 1,026 performances at the Imperial, closing September 4, 2016.

A film version arrived in 2012.

The show's long run on American roads

US touring began in 1987, when three national companies set out; the third, known as the Marius Company, became one of the longest-running American tours. A 25th anniversary tour ran from 2010 to 2013, another company launched in Providence in 2017, and the latest opened at Cleveland's State Theatre on October 7, 2022. Recent tours use the design created for the 2009–2010 UK tour, with projected scenery inspired by Hugo's own paintings in place of the original turntable staging.

Engagements usually last a few weeks per city, which squeezes demand. Friday and Saturday evenings and weekend matinees go first, holiday weeks and school breaks bring in families, and Tuesday through Thursday nights early in a run tend to have the most seats left. With no North American production announced as of October 2026, any return would likely open to heavy first-week interest. Reserved Seat orders ship free.
