Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.
Boston seats start with the right train
The first Boston seat decision is really a transit decision. The ballpark and the arena both sit on the subway system locals call the T, so a game or concert at either one is a short ride from most hotels. Gillette Stadium, home of football and MLS soccer, is about 22 miles southwest in Foxborough, and getting there takes an event train or a long drive. Once you know which building, pick the level and side; the sections below cover each venue type.
Beyond the big three, you get a walkable Theater District, a block of music halls next to the ballpark, a warm-weather amphitheater on the waterfront and a stand-up tradition few American cities can match.
- Baseball: the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
- Basketball and hockey: the Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins at TD Garden.
- Football and soccer: the New England Patriots and the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium.
- Concerts: TD Garden, the two stadiums, MGM Music Hall at Fenway, House of Blues Boston, Leader Bank Pavilion and the Wang Theatre.
- Comedy: the Wilbur, Nick's Comedy Stop, Laugh Boston and Improv Asylum.
Seat strategy for Boston's four big teams
Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park
The Red Sox were a charter member of the American League in 1901 and have won the World Series nine times, including 2004, 2007, 2013 and 2018. Fenway Park dates to 1912. The home opener, any series with New York and July or August weekends sell first, so buy those earliest. For seat-by-seat advice, use the Fenway Park page.
Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins at TD Garden
The Bruins joined the NHL on November 1, 1924, as the league's first American team, and last won the Stanley Cup in 2011. The Celtics hold the NBA record of eight consecutive championships, from 1959 to 1966. Both play at TD Garden. For basketball, sideline seats show both baskets best; for hockey, a raised seat near center ice follows the puck end to end better than a low seat behind a goal. Saturday games and rivalry nights sell first.
New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium
The Patriots' six Super Bowl titles tie Pittsburgh for the most in NFL history. At Gillette, lower sideline seats give the classic football view. Route 1, which runs right by the stadium, backs up badly, so leave early or ride the train.
Concert rooms from Lansdowne Street to the Seaport
- TD Garden: about 20,000 at a concert, the room for major arena tours. For end-stage shows, a lower side seat near the stage usually beats the back of the floor.
- The two stadiums: warm-weather mega-tours. Concerts at Fenway go back to 2003, and the old park's snug layout keeps a show there more intimate than one in Foxborough.
- MGM Music Hall at Fenway: a 5,009-seat hall that opened on Lansdowne in August 2022.
- House of Blues Boston: mid-size tours in a club across from the ballpark.
- Leader Bank Pavilion: Live Nation's 5,000-seat waterfront stage on Northern Avenue, active each year from May into October.
- Wang Theatre: a Tremont Street picture palace from 1925, now run by the Boch Center, seating upward of 3,500 for music, stand-up, dance and touring productions.
Deciding on a show the same day? Lansdowne is your best bet, because both of its halls keep busy calendars and the ballpark bars are right there. One festival note: Boston Calling, a Memorial Day weekend fixture in Allston, skipped 2026 and plans to come back in June 2027.
Stand-up in Boston: choosing the club and the table
- The Wilbur: a Tremont Street theater from 1914 with about 1,100 seats. A former comedy-club owner took over the lease in 2008, and it now runs mainly as a comedy room for touring headliners. By the venue's own description, the room is built so no seat is far from the stage.
- Nick's Comedy Stop: a Warrenton Street fixture since 1977 that runs its shows on weekend nights. The 2026 age minimum is 18, and headliner weekends frequently sell out.
- Laugh Boston: located in the Seaport's Westin hotel on Summer Street, close to the convention center, with validated garage parking and no steps anywhere in the space.
- Improv Asylum: a North End sketch and improv theater at 216 Hanover Street, founded in 1998, with mainstage shows several nights a week and classes.
In a small club, the closest tables draw the most attention from the comic; sit a little farther back if you would rather watch than take part. Two of the four clubs, the Wilbur and Nick's, sit within a few blocks of each other, which makes a Theater District comedy night with dinner in nearby Chinatown easy. The Seaport club suits a convention trip, and the Hanover Street theater suits a North End meal. Arena-level comics book the Wang or the Garden.
Broadway houses near Boston Common
National tours of Broadway shows play a few historic houses near the Common. The Emerson Colonial Theatre, 106 Boylston Street, dates to 1900 and has a long record of pre-Broadway tryouts and touring productions. The Citizens Bank Opera House on Washington Street, a 1928 house, presents touring Broadway as well as Boston Ballet, whose Nutcracker fills the holiday season. The Boch Center also runs the smaller Shubert Theatre beside the Wang. In houses of this age, the front of the mezzanine often sees a full stage picture better than the rear orchestra. Holiday weeks and weekend evenings are the hardest seats to get.
Boston's year of games and shows
- March to May: Red Sox Opening Day, the end of the Celtics and Bruins regular seasons with possible playoff games, and the first Leader Bank Pavilion shows in May.
- June to August: nearly nightly baseball, stadium tours in town and in Foxborough, and waterfront concerts.
- September to November: NFL Sundays at Gillette, the MLS stretch run, a new NBA and NHL season, and possible Red Sox postseason dates.
- December to February: midseason basketball and hockey, Nutcracker performances and holiday shows around the Theater District.
Subway lines and event trains
- Lansdowne Street venues and the ballpark: Kenmore and Fenway stations on the Green Line are closest, and a commuter rail stop (Lansdowne) is right there too. Leave the car at the hotel.
- TD Garden: North Station, served by the Green and Orange Lines and by northbound commuter rail, is built into the arena's base. Expect final subway departures at about 12:45 a.m.
- Gillette Stadium: special MBTA trains run on event days from South Station (with Back Bay and Dedham Corporate Center stops) and from Providence. You must buy through the mTicket app, there are no refunds, trains do sell out, and the ride home departs roughly half an hour after the final whistle or encore.
- Theater District: an easy walk from hotels near the Common, Downtown Crossing or Back Bay.
- Seaport: on foot from waterfront hotels, or a quick car ride from downtown.
For Foxborough events, confirm the train schedule on the MBTA's Gillette Stadium page.
Where to stay and what to carry
- Kenmore Square area: pregame crowds pack the ballpark bars hours ahead, and summer weekend hotel rooms go fast.
- West End: the arena neighborhood, with North End restaurants a few minutes away on foot.
- Back Bay and the Theater District: the most flexible base, a short subway ride from both the ballpark and the arena.
- Foxborough: Patriot Place beside the stadium offers dining and shopping, but most fans sleep in the city and take the train down.
- Bags: 2026 limits are a one-pocket bag up to 12 x 12 x 6 inches at Fenway, a tiny 6 x 4 x 1.5-inch bag at the Garden, and transparent bags only at Gillette. Check each venue's current rules.
- Mobile tickets: TD Garden uses a rotating barcode, so a screenshot will not scan.
Every Reserved Seat order includes guaranteed entry, which matters most on sellout dates like Opening Day and playoff games.
Frequently asked questions
How far is Gillette Stadium from downtown Boston?
Roughly 22 miles, in Foxborough to the southwest. On event days, special trains leave South Station and Providence; buy seats on them in the mTicket app.
Which TD Garden seats are best for a Bruins game?
A raised seat near center ice lets you follow play from end to end. Low seats behind a goal are close to the action at one end but see less of the full rink.
Is Nick's Comedy Stop open to guests under 18?
No. The 2026 minimum age at Nick's is 18, and weekend headliners tend to sell out.
When does the last train leave TD Garden?
Subway service from North Station, under the arena, ends at about 12:45 a.m. Commuter rail schedules vary by line.
Is Boston Calling happening in 2026?
No. Boston Calling paused for 2026 and says it will return in June 2027 to its usual Allston home at Harvard's athletic fields.
Can you use a screenshot of a TD Garden ticket?
No. Garden tickets carry a barcode that keeps changing, so a static image fails at the scanner. Open the ticket in the app instead.
