Hard Rock Stadium

Coolest: south sideline and upper rows · visitors' north side is sunny

In Miami Gardens the canopy decides your comfort. Buy on the south side or high under the roof line, and an afternoon Dolphins game feels very different.

Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.

Buy Shade First

For a daytime game at Hard Rock Stadium, the seat that matters most is a shaded one, and the shade lives on the south sideline and in the upper rows under the canopy. The south side is also where the Dolphins bench sits, so a middle or upper row of the 100 level there gives you shade, a midfield angle and the home team in front of you. The north sideline, where visitors sit, takes more direct sun, which is a real cost at a 1 p.m. kickoff in September.

Hard Rock Stadium seats 64,767 and is home to the NFL's Miami Dolphins and the University of Miami Hurricanes. It sits in Miami Gardens, north of downtown Miami. The canopy, added in 2016, covers more than 90% of the seats but leaves the field open to the sky, which is why seat choice here is mostly a question of where that roof line falls.

The Three Tiers and Their Landmarks

Section ranges below come from seating guides, not from the stadium, so confirm them against the event map. Concerts, soccer and the Grand Prix all reconfigure the grounds.

100 level

The lower bowl circles the field. Guides place the Dolphins bench on the south sideline in front of roughly sections 144 to 148 and the visitors on the north side in front of about 117 to 121, with 118 near midfield. The west end zone covers about 102 to 106 and the east end zone about 130 to 134.

Premium seating

The 72 Club is a field-level space on the south sideline between the 35-yard lines, with reclining seats and in-seat service. The Lexus North Sideline Club spans roughly sections 117 to 119, with padded seats and air-conditioned lounges.

300 level

The upper deck sits most completely under the canopy. Guides put the midfield upper sections at about 318 to 321 on the north and 343 to 346 on the south, and the south group sits deep in the shade.

Seat Picks for a Miami Afternoon

  • Best balance: middle and upper rows of the south 100s. Shade, a sideline view and the Dolphins bench below.
  • Most reliable shade: upper-deck sideline seats, especially 343 to 346 on the south. You also see the whole field, often for less than a lower midfield seat.
  • Most comfort: the clubs. Air-conditioned lounges carry real value during a humid early-season game.

Seats that cost you comfort

  • The first rows of the lower bowl. They sit at the edge of the canopy line, so they catch sun and, in a downpour, blowing rain.
  • The north side at a September day game. Expect long stretches in direct sun.
  • Low rows in the end zones. The flat angle makes plays at the far end hard to read.

Night kickoffs and late-season games take most of the sun out of the equation. Demand runs highest for division rivals, prime-time games and visiting teams whose fans like a winter trip to South Florida.

Arrival: No Rail, So Plan the Car

The stadium has no rail station, so you will come by car, rideshare or shuttle.

  • Parking: as of the 2025 season, passes must be bought ahead, and showing up without one does not guarantee a space. Lots open four hours before a Dolphins kickoff and five before a Hurricanes game.
  • Park and Ride: the stadium has offered free shuttles from off-site lots.
  • Brightline: a free shuttle has run from the Aventura Brightline station. Leave the stadium at least an hour before your train home.
  • Rideshare: pickups have used Lot 44, about a 25-minute walk away.

Tailgating rules as of 2025: one space per vehicle, gas or charcoal grills only, no open flames, tents anchored with weights instead of stakes, and no kegs.

Entry, Bags and What to Leave at Home

As of the 2025 season, the stadium uses a clear-bag policy, with a maximum size of 12 by 6 by 12 inches. Gates open two hours before a Dolphins kickoff and 90 minutes before a Hurricanes game. Tickets are digital, the stadium is cashless and smoke-free, and re-entry is generally not allowed.

  • Bring: sealed water bottles of 20 ounces or less.
  • Leave behind: umbrellas, coolers and spray sunscreen. Put sunscreen on before you reach the gate.

Review the stadium's A to Z guide for the current rules. Reserved Seat orders come with guaranteed entry.

On the concourses, the food has a local accent. Recent fan guides mention Cuban stands such as Cafe La Carreta and Sol Cubano and the Miami Beach burger counter Cheeseburger Baby, though vendors rotate each season. Halftime lines are long at sellouts, and on hot days you should keep drinking water.

Beyond Football

Hard Rock Stadium stays busy year-round. It hosts the Orange Bowl every season, the Miami Open tennis tournament and the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix, which runs on a temporary circuit laid out around the grounds. It has staged six Super Bowls, the 2024 Copa America final and matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, along with stadium concert tours. Each event uses its own seating plan, so the football advice above applies only loosely to concerts and racing.

Six Names and One Big Renovation

The stadium opened on August 16, 1987, as Joe Robbie Stadium, named for the Dolphins' founder, and cost about 115 million dollars to build. Its name then passed through Pro Player Stadium, Dolphins Stadium, Dolphin Stadium, Land Shark Stadium and Sun Life Stadium before it became Hard Rock Stadium in August 2016.

The 2015 to 2016 renovation, privately funded and reported at about 350 million dollars, changed the building most. It added the canopy and reduced capacity from about 75,000 to 64,767. The Super Bowls played here are XXIII, XXIX, XXXIII, XLI, XLIV and LIV.
