Upcoming College Football Playoff National Championship dates

Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.

Pick your side and level before the finalists are known

When the College Football Playoff National Championship comes to Allegiant Stadium in 2027, the strongest seat for most fans is a lower-level sideline seat in the middle or upper rows, on the side where your team's fans will gather. If that is beyond your budget, an upper-level sideline seat still shows the whole field clearly and is the value choice. A permanent see-through roof covers the building, so weather never enters the equation.

Kickoff is planned for 7:30 p.m. Eastern on Monday, January 25, 2027 (4:30 p.m. local time), and ESPN has the broadcast. It is the last game of the major-college season and matches the two semifinal winners.

Allegiant Stadium seats for the title game

Home to the Raiders since it opened in 2020, the stadium is also where UNLV plays and where the Las Vegas Bowl is held. It holds about 65,000 for football and can expand to about 72,000. The 100 level forms the lower bowl, the 200 level holds suites and loges, and the 300 and 400 levels make up the upper seating.

  • Lower sideline. The most wanted seats and usually the most expensive. Middle and upper rows give a better angle than the front rows, which sit behind the benches.
  • Your team's side. Each school's fans cluster near their sideline and their allotment blocks, so picking the right side matters as much as picking the right row.
  • Upper sideline. The value pick, with a clear view of formations and the full field.
  • Upper end zones. The lowest cost and the farthest from the action.

Policies as of 2026: transparent bags (plastic, vinyl or PVC) no larger than 12 by 6 by 12 inches or a small clutch, parking by advance purchase only, and no cash. Rules for this game appear on the Allegiant Stadium event page.

Face value, school allotments and the resale market

Title-game ticketing works differently from a regular bowl, and that structure drives the resale market.

  • Most seats go to the finalists. Per the CFP, the bulk of the seats belong to the two finalists. Each school sells its share at face value (the price printed on the ticket), generally ranking buyers by donor status, season-ticket history or enrollment.
  • Reservations by team. Through CFP RSVP, you can lock in a purchase option tied to one team weeks before the matchup exists. If that team is eliminated, the option is worthless.
  • Premium. Hospitality and suite packages have their own sales channel run by the CFP.
  • Resale. Any remaining seats change hands between fans on the secondary market, priced by supply and demand.

Inventory is thin and the clock is short. Listings exist early, but prices jump or fall as soon as the semifinals end: two big, well-traveled fan bases push them up, while a smaller program or a long trip can cool them. A few fans who bought through their school back out late, which adds supply in the last days. Reserved Seat orders carry a 100% guarantee.

From a 12-team bracket to one Monday night

The playoff grew from four teams to 12 beginning with the 2024 season. Thirteen committee members rank and seed the teams. In the 2025 format, five conference champions (the highest ranked) and seven at-large teams made the field, with byes for the four best-ranked teams overall. Changes to automatic bids were reported for 2026, so check the format before the December bracket release.

  • First round, December 18–19, 2026. Seeds 5 to 12 meet, with the better seed hosting on campus or at a venue it picks.
  • Quarterfinals. Played at four of the New Year's Six bowls near January 1, always including the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day itself.
  • Semifinals. This cycle they go to the Orange Bowl (January 14) and the Sugar Bowl (January 15).
  • Final. About ten days later.

Reaching the final can take three or four playoff wins, so a finalist's fans may already have paid for several trips.

A rotating host: Las Vegas, then New Orleans, Tampa, Miami

Unlike the rounds before it, the final belongs to no bowl. The CFP itself operates the game and picks a host from competing bids, similar to how the Final Four is placed. Requirements include seating for 65,000 or more, and a city that hosts a semifinal cannot also host the final that season. To date, all hosts have been NFL stadiums, most of them domes or in warm-weather cities.

Atlanta and Miami Gardens have each hosted twice; Arlington, Glendale, Tampa, Santa Clara, New Orleans, Indianapolis, Inglewood and Houston once apiece. A typical crowd is around 75,000. The high is 85,788 for the 2015 opener; the low, 14,926, came under COVID limits in January 2021.

Ten days to book Las Vegas

  • Hold refundable rooms early while your team is still alive. Canceling is easier than finding a room after the semifinals.
  • Plan for a Monday game and a Tuesday trip home.
  • Walk or ride from the Strip. Roughly a mile separates the stadium from the Strip, with I-15 in between. Walking across the Hacienda Avenue bridge is popular, and the RTC has operated Game Day Express buses for Raiders home games.
  • Check collegefootballplayoff.com in January for fan events and the game-week schedule.

Ohio State in Arlington to Indiana at 16–0

Ohio State won the inaugural title game 42–20 over Oregon in January 2015, in Arlington, Texas. Most recently, on January 19, 2026, Indiana defeated Miami 27–21 in Miami Gardens to complete a 16–0 season, a first at the FBS (Football Bowl Subdivision) level. Schedules and announcements come from the College Football Playoff.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best seat for the CFP title game?

Mid-to-high rows of the lower bowl along your team's sideline. For less money, the upper sideline still offers a full-field view.

When is the 2027 national championship game?

January 25, 2027, a Monday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Eastern on ESPN.

How do the finalists' schools sell tickets?

Each finalist receives a large allotment and sells it at face value, generally to its donors, season-ticket holders and students first. Everyone else buys on resale.

What is CFP RSVP?

A team-specific reservation for title-game tickets, bought before the finalists are decided. It converts to a ticket purchase only if your team reaches the final.

Where are future championship games?

New Orleans in 2028, Tampa in 2029 and Miami Gardens in 2030.

Can I walk to Allegiant Stadium from the Strip?

Yes. It is roughly a mile, and the Hacienda Avenue bridge over I-15 is the usual walking route.
