Reliant Stadium

Club 300s for comfort · low 500s for value · formerly NRG Stadium

Houston's retractable-roof stadium carries a familiar new name. Decide which level and sideline fit your Texans game or rodeo night, then plan the lots.

Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.

Seat Strategy at a Glance

For a Houston Texans game at Reliant Stadium, three choices cover almost every budget. Lower-bowl sideline seats between the 20-yard lines, in rows from the teens to the twenties, are the premium view. The 300-level club sideline is the most comfortable seat in the house, with indoor lounges and shorter lines. The front rows of the 500 level along the sidelines are the value pick, giving a high, broadcast-style angle on every play.

Weather barely factors in. The stadium has a retractable roof, and it is often shut during Houston's hot early season, so you do not need to hunt for shade the way you would at an open-air stadium. The building seats 72,220 for football and can grow to about 80,000.

A note on the name: if your ticket, map or old parking pass says NRG Stadium, it is the same place. The stadium opened as Reliant Stadium in 2002, carried the NRG Stadium name from March 19, 2014, and went by Houston Stadium during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, when sponsor names were not allowed. On April 15, 2026, NRG Energy, Reliant's parent company, said it would bring back the Reliant Stadium and Reliant Park names after the tournament, with new signs planned for the 2026 NFL preseason.

Field, Club and Upper Levels, Decoded

The first digit of a section number tells you the tier.

  • 100s, Field Level: the lower bowl around the playing surface. Guest Experience booths sit near sections 113 and 133.
  • 300s, Club Level: the mezzanine, home to most of the stadium's more than 7,000 club seats plus its lounges and bars. Booths sit near sections 317 and 345.
  • 500s and 600s, Upper Level: the biggest tier and the least expensive. Booths sit near sections 516 and 542.

There are 186 luxury suites between the tiers. According to the Texans, wheelchair-accessible seating is placed at the tops of sections along the lower, mezzanine and upper concourses.

The roof is built from two fabric panels that part at the 50-yard line and slide back over the end zones in about seven minutes. On Texans game days, the team decides two hours before kickoff, weighing heat, rain odds, cloud cover and wind, and that call holds for the whole game.

Choosing Seats for Football, Rodeo and Concert Nights

Texans football

The Texans play preseason games in August and the regular season from September into January. Downstairs, skip the first few rows: they sit at field height, where players, coaches and camera crews on the sideline cut into your view of the far side. The lower end zones are great when the action is near you and frustrating when it is 80 yards away. The top rows of the upper corners are both the longest climb and the farthest from the field. Before paying extra for a particular sideline, check the seat map for your game to see which bench each team uses.

RodeoHouston

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has shared the stadium since 2003 and runs for about three weeks every March, with a concert after each rodeo performance. The building was designed around it: animals are housed beneath the north end of the lower bowl, and a 42-foot stage at the south end rolls out to the middle of the floor for the concert. With the stage centered, lower sideline seats on either side get the closest look at both the competition and the music, and the upper deck still sees the whole arena floor. Weekend dates and big headliners go first.

Stadium tours

For end-stage concerts, choose lower sideline sections angled toward the stage, or the front part of the floor. Seats beside or behind the stage are frequently sold as limited view, so read the notes on the listing carefully.

Getting In: Clear Bags, Gates and Mobile Tickets (2026)

As of the 2026 season, Texans games and other NFL events here use the league's clear-bag policy. When it applies, Reliant Park allows:

  • a single clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bag up to 12 by 6 by 12 inches, or
  • a clear one-gallon zip-top plastic bag, and
  • a small clutch up to 4.5 by 6.5 inches, strap optional.

Medical items are permitted after inspection. At non-NFL events, rules vary by show, but backpacks and bags over 11 by 17 inches are refused, and most events offer no lockers.

  • Doors: on Texans game days, club and suite ticket holders enter through the East and West Club entrances two hours before kickoff. The general gates, named Ford, Kroger, Phillips 66 and Xfinity, are listed as opening 90 minutes before kickoff in the Texans' A-Z guide and two hours before on other team and venue pages; plan around the shorter window.
  • Tickets: Texans tickets are mobile only.
  • Leaving: your ticket cannot be rescanned for re-entry.
  • Payment: concessions and merchandise are cashless.

Reserved Seat orders come with guaranteed entry. Review the Reliant Park A-Z guide before you go, since policies change.

Colored Lots, Tailgates and the Red Line

Reliant Park holds about 26,000 parking spaces in color-coded lots, and Texans Sundays turn them into one of the bigger tailgating scenes in the NFL. As of the 2026 season, the lots are Purple, Red, Green, Blue, Orange, Maroon, Gold, Teal, Platinum and Yellow. During football season, anyone older than two needs either a game ticket or a tailgate ticket just to enter the grounds. Most lots open four hours before kickoff; Platinum opens five hours before.

Your lot color also decides your route in and out:

  • Main Street: Green, Yellow and Purple.
  • Kirby Drive: Blue and Red.
  • Fannin Street: Maroon and Orange.

Distances are bigger than they look. The Texans' walking map shows some lots 30 to 60 minutes or more from the gates, so match your parking pass to the gate nearest your section.

Tailgating rules: keep to your space and the area just in front of or behind your vehicle. Extra spaces for canopies, trailer grills or RVs must be bought, nobody may save spots, and the party must end one hour after the game. Lighter fluid is banned, and grills and tents must be put away by kickoff.

Without a car: the METRORail Red Line stops at Reliant Park; get off at the Fannin stop and walk in through Gate 2. Rideshare and taxi drop-off is at Yellow 35, Gate 16B, off Main Street. Lot maps are on the Reliant Park directions page.

Inside the Building

The concourses face the field, so you can keep watching while you wait for food, and glass walls let in daylight even with the roof shut. Smoking is limited to outdoor areas on the Service Level, the Field Level terraces and the ramps of the Club and Upper Levels. A Nursing Mothers Room is available through the Guest Experience booth at section 133.

Beyond the Texans and the rodeo, the calendar includes the Texas Bowl each winter, Monster Jam, Supercross and stadium concert tours, which makes the building one of the busiest in Houston.

How Houston Built It, and Renamed It Twice

The stadium was built beside the Astrodome as its replacement, planned from the start for both NFL football and the rodeo's floor-space needs. Work began on March 9, 2000, took 30 months and cost 352 million dollars, and the result was the first NFL stadium with a retractable roof. Miami won the first preseason game here, 24–3, on August 24, 2002, and the expansion Texans beat Dallas 19–10 in their first regular-season game that September. Grass grown on movable trays was replaced by artificial turf in 2015.

Big events followed: Super Bowls XXXVIII (2004) and LI (2017), WrestleMania 25, the January 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship and seven matches of the 2026 World Cup. A 32-year naming deal signed in 2000 put Reliant on the building first, NRG from 2014, and Reliant again starting with the 2026 season, so expect all three names on maps and listings for a while.

Frequently asked questions

Why do some tickets say NRG Stadium?

Reliant Stadium was called NRG Stadium from 2014 until 2026 and Houston Stadium during the 2026 World Cup. The Reliant name returned for the 2026 NFL season, so older listings and passes may still show NRG.

Where should I sit for the rodeo at Reliant Stadium?

Lower sideline seats on either side are closest to both the arena events and the concert, because the stage moves to the center of the floor after each rodeo performance.

Are club seats at Reliant Stadium worth it?

For comfort, yes. The 300-level club sideline offers a good height for football plus indoor lounges and shorter lines, and the stadium has more than 7,000 club seats.

What bag can I bring to a Texans game?

As of 2026, one clear bag up to 12 by 6 by 12 inches or a one-gallon clear bag, plus a clutch up to 4.5 by 6.5 inches. Check the venue's current policy before you go.

Can I take the train to Reliant Stadium?

Yes. The METRORail Red Line stops at Reliant Park; exit at the Fannin stop and enter through Gate 2.
