Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.

The Fenway seat call for Red Sox games

For most Red Sox fans, the smartest ticket at Fenway Park is a Loge Box seat (the lower-level rows just behind the front Field Box rows) between the dugouts. You sit close, you face the plate, and you usually pay less than the Field Box rows in front of you. If shade matters more than proximity, pick the Grandstand, but only after checking for poles.

Fenway is unlike a modern ballpark. It opened in 1912, it is the oldest active park in the majors, and its seating follows a 114-year-old footprint rather than a tidy bowl. Capacity is listed at 37,305 for day games and 37,755 for night games; the gap comes from center field seats that are covered as a batter's eye (a dark backdrop that helps hitters see the pitch) in daylight.

  • Best overall: Field Box or Loge Box between the dugouts.
  • Best for shade: the Grandstand, in a pole-free seat.
  • Best story to tell: the Green Monster seats, once.
  • Best budget seat: the bleachers, at night.

Fenway's seating areas, from the field up

Field Box and Loge Box

These lower-level seats wrap the infield. Seating guides place the Red Sox dugout on the first base side, so home fans who want to watch the team come and go favor that side, while the third base side looks into the visitors' dugout. Loge Box is the value play: a few rows farther back, much the same angle.

The Grandstand

The Grandstand is the older section of wooden seats tucked under the upper deck. It offers cover and atmosphere, and it also hides the park's best-known flaw: steel support poles. A rule of thumb from Ballpark E-Guides holds that rows 5 to 10, and seats 5 to 10, are the safest picks, because poles tend to stand in the front rows and near the ends of a row. Any listing tagged OV (obstructed view) means a pole or overhang is in the line of sight.

Pavilion Box and upper seating

The Pavilion Box seats ride along the upper sides of the park. From row C up they sit under cover, which makes them a sensible choice for a damp spring night.

Right Field Box and the bleachers

Right Field Box puts you near the field for less than comparable seats down the left field line. The catch is orientation: many of these seats point toward center field, so you turn your head to see home plate. Behind them, the bleachers climb high enough that the last rows sit roughly 600 feet from the plate.

Monster, bleachers or Grandstand? Matching seat to purpose

Fenway's specialty seats each solve a different problem, and each comes with a cost.

  • Green Monster seats: added for the 2003 season atop the left field wall, which stands about 37 feet high. You get a famous perch and a view down into the field. You also get a sideways angle to the plate, and only the front row sees the warning track in deep left.
  • Bleachers: the cheapest way into the park and a lively crowd. In an afternoon game they offer no shade at all, and the upper rows are far from the action.
  • Grandstand: the best place to escape sun or rain without paying Box prices. The trade-off is pole risk and, on a cold April or September night, a chill that never lifts.
  • Infield Box seats: the purist's choice for watching pitch selection and defense. These carry the highest demand of any regular seat.

Bring kids to a night game in the Loge Box or Pavilion Box. Save the Monster for a fan who already knows the park and wants the novelty.

Seats at Fenway worth passing on

  • Right field Grandstand sections 2, 3, 32 and 33: seating guides flag these for a double penalty of poles and poor angles to the infield.
  • Front rows and end seats in any Grandstand section: the most likely spots for a pole directly in front of you.
  • Bleachers for a summer day game: full sun from first pitch to last out.
  • Unmarked bargains: a Grandstand ticket priced well below its neighbors is often an obstructed seat. Check the listing notes before you buy.

Red Sox dates with the tightest supply

MLB clubs play 162 games, half at home. Spring training covers February and March, the regular season runs from late March or early April to late September, and the All-Star break falls in mid-July. Twelve teams make the postseason, which can stretch into early November. Under the balanced schedule in place since 2023, every club faces every other club, and Boston sees each AL East rival 13 times.

Fenway ranks as the fifth-smallest MLB park by seating capacity, so popular dates thin out quickly. Boston once sold out 820 games in a row, from 2003 to 2013.

  • New York Yankees series: the hardest regular-season ticket in the building.
  • Opening Day: a perennial early sellout candidate.
  • Patriots' Day: the club has hosted a home game on the April holiday every year since 1959, with an early start that shares the day with the Boston Marathon.
  • Summer weekends: Friday and Saturday games from June through August.
  • Postseason: October demand runs well above anything in the regular season.

For the easiest purchase, look at weeknight games in April or September.

Reaching Kenmore and clearing Fenway security

The ballpark sits at 4 Jersey Street in the Fenway–Kenmore neighborhood, where parking is limited. Public transit is the reliable option:

  • Green Line: Kenmore and Fenway stations are a short walk away.
  • Commuter rail: Lansdowne station sits directly behind the park.

As of the 2026 season, the team's posted rules include:

  • Bags must be single-compartment and no larger than 12 by 12 by 6 inches; clear bags are encouraged.
  • Backpacks, including backpack-style purses, are not allowed, with exceptions for diaper and medical bags.
  • You may bring one sealed plastic water bottle of 16 ounces or less. Cans, glass and alcohol are prohibited.
  • All fans walk through metal detectors.

Policies change, so read the Fenway security page before game day. Every Reserved Seat order carries a 100% guarantee.

Curses, comebacks and the Red Sox record

The franchise began in 1901 as the Boston Americans, a charter member of the American League, and adopted the Red Sox name in 1908. It has played in the AL East since 1969. Titles came early, in 1903, 1912, 1915, 1916 and 1918, and then not again for 86 years, a drought that local lore pinned on the 1920 sale of Babe Ruth to New York.

The curse talk ended in 2004. Down three games to none against the Yankees in the ALCS, Boston became the first MLB team to win a series from that hole, then won the World Series. Further titles followed in 2007, 2013 and 2018, under owner Fenway Sports Group. The club also holds 14 AL pennants and 10 AL East titles.

  • Ted Williams batted .406 in 1941, and his 502-foot home run on June 9, 1946, is marked by a lone red seat in the right field bleachers: Section 42, Row 37, Seat 21.
  • Carl Yastrzemski won the Triple Crown during the 1967 Impossible Dream season.
  • Carlton Fisk hit his Game 6 home run in the 1975 World Series.
  • Retired numbers: 1, 4, 6, 8, 9, 14, 26, 27, 34 and 45, plus Jackie Robinson's 42 across baseball.

There is no tailgating at a neighborhood park like this one. Fans gather instead in Kenmore Square and on Lansdowne Street behind the left field wall, and Jersey Street, called Yawkey Way from 1977 to 2018, fills once the gates open. Inside, watch for the hand-operated scoreboard in the Monster and stay for Sweet Caroline in the middle of the eighth, a singalong since 2002. Fenway joined the National Register of Historic Places in 2012. Schedules are posted on the Red Sox website.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best value seat at Fenway Park?

Loge Box seats between the dugouts usually offer the best balance of view and cost. They sit just behind the Field Box rows with nearly the same angle to the plate.

Which side of Fenway is the Red Sox dugout on?

Seating guides place the Red Sox dugout along the first base line, with the visitors on the third base side. Check the map on your listing to confirm.

What does OV mean on a Fenway ticket?

OV stands for obstructed view, usually a support pole in the Grandstand. In that area, rows 5 to 10 and seats 5 to 10 are generally the safest choices.

Is there covered seating at Fenway if it rains?

Yes, but it is limited. The Grandstand sits under the upper deck, and Pavilion Box seats are covered from row C up; the bleachers and Right Field Box are fully exposed.

Can you bring a backpack into Fenway Park?

As of the 2026 season, no. Backpacks are prohibited except diaper and medical bags, and other bags must be single-compartment and no larger than 12 by 12 by 6 inches.

Why do Red Sox home games on Patriots' Day start early?

The club has played at home on the April holiday every year since 1959, with an early start that coincides with the Boston Marathon. Expect crowds around Kenmore Square.
