Upcoming Dave Chappelle dates
Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.
See his face: choosing a Chappelle seat
At a Dave Chappelle show, sit where you can see his face. So much of his act is a raised eyebrow, a long pause or a sideways look, and every extra row erodes that faster than it would at a concert. Big theater: the middle of the orchestra, or the first few rows of the lowest mezzanine. Amphitheater: the sections closest to the stage. Arena: the raised lower bowl straight across from him, not the rear of a flat floor.
What you are buying is a solo stand-up night, most often in a large theater or an outdoor bowl, with phones sealed away.
Theater, amphitheater and arena picks
Large theaters
Radio City Music Hall, where he played ten nights in 2014, holds about 5,960 people in an orchestra level plus three mezzanine tiers. The middle orchestra and the opening rows of the first tier are the seats to want. Higher tiers hear every word but cannot make out his expressions.
Amphitheaters
The Hollywood Bowl climbs a hillside with roughly 17,500 seats; buy as close to the stage as you can. Up in the high benches, any screens become your main view.
Arenas
Choose a raised seat looking straight at the stage over the back half of the floor, where heads block a performer who stands still at a microphone.
Seats to skip
Far-side sections and anything level with or behind the stage. Comedians play to the middle of the room, so a side view loses more than at a band show. Without phones lighting up the crowd, even a large hall feels more intimate, which is why a central seat several rows back tends to beat a steep angle near the front.
Pouches at the door and other house rules
His audiences are asked to lock their phones away for the whole performance. The practice goes back at least to late 2015, when reporters noted his use of Yondr pouches: fabric sleeves that lock your phone at the door and only open again on the way out. Pouching slows the lines, so get there early, and confirm the venue's rules before show day.
The material is for adults. His style is long, talky storytelling aimed squarely at race, politics, fame and the culture wars. Recent specials earned both high praise and organized protest over material about transgender people, so know what you are signing up for. Expect a DJ and one or more opening comics before he takes the stage.
Apollo boos to the Mark Twain Prize
Born in Washington, D.C., on August 24, 1973, Chappelle was raised in nearby Silver Spring, Maryland, and finished at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in 1991. An early Amateur Night at the Apollo ended with boos; a 1992 spot on HBO's Def Comedy Jam went much better. His sketch series, Chappelle's Show, aired on Comedy Central from 2003 until 2006, and he left partway through making season three.
Netflix signed him in 2016, and eight specials followed, from the 2017 pair Equanimity and The Age of Spin through The Closer (2021) to The Unstoppable (2025). The shelf holds six Best Comedy Album Grammys, several Primetime Emmys (including one for his 2016 SNL hosting gig) and the 2019 Mark Twain Prize from the Kennedy Center. His fourth SNL hosting turn came on January 18, 2025.
Residencies, tapings and record nights
- June 2014: a ten-show stand at Radio City Music Hall, his first big New York engagement in eleven years.
- April 2015 and March 2016: two specials taped, one at Austin City Limits Live and one at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles.
- 2018: a two-man tour with Jon Stewart in the US and UK.
- Summer 2020: Chappelle Summer Camp in Yellow Springs, Ohio, open-air, distanced shows with visiting comedians and bands, running from late June to September 25.
- May 2022: four headline nights at the Hollywood Bowl as part of Netflix Is a Joke, matching Monty Python's mark for a comedy act at the venue.
- September 2025: an appearance at the inaugural Riyadh Comedy Festival in Saudi Arabia.
Unannounced club drop-ins are part of his legend; one at the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles in December 2007 stretched past six hours. Those pop-ups are almost never ticketed in advance.
Short notice, short runs: how his dates sell
He does not post long tours. Dates appear in clusters: one city might get a weekend or a multi-night stand, and then nothing for a long stretch.
- Announcements arrive with little notice. The first sale moves fast, and center seats go first.
- Later and weeknight shows in a run usually have more left than the opener or the Saturday.
- Close center seats hold value on resale; in big rooms, side and upper seats often get cheaper close to the show.
Reserved Seat orders come with guaranteed entry. The live event list on this page shows what is on sale now.
Frequently asked questions
Where should I sit for Dave Chappelle at Radio City?
The middle of the orchestra or the first rows of the lowest mezzanine. Higher tiers hear clearly but sit too far away to catch his face.
Do I have to lock my phone at a Dave Chappelle show?
In most cases. Yondr pouches have been part of his shows since at least 2015, and your phone stays locked until you exit. Confirm the venue's rules ahead of time.
Can teenagers go to a Dave Chappelle show?
The act is aimed at adults: heavy profanity and blunt material on sex, race and politics. Some venues post their own minimum ages, so read the listing.
How long did Dave Chappelle's longest set last?
His record club set ran six hours and 12 minutes, in December 2007 at the Laugh Factory.
How many Netflix specials has Dave Chappelle released?
Eight, released between 2017 and 2025 after he signed with Netflix in 2016. The most recent is The Unstoppable.
