Arena stand-up · lower level facing the stage is the smart buy

Martin Lawrence is back on stage as a stand-up, and at an arena comedy show the right seat is the one that lines up the stage and a screen.

Upcoming Martin Lawrence dates

Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.

Face the stage: the Martin Lawrence seat rule

At a Martin Lawrence show, the best value is a lower-level seat directly facing the stage. Stand-up lives on facial expressions and timing, and in an arena most people watch those on the video screens. From a straight-on lower-level seat, the stage and the main screen sit in one line of sight, and the slope of the seating lifts you over the floor crowd.

That matters more than usual here, because his act is physical. The characters, faces and body language that powered his sitcom Martin play toward the front of the stage, so side seats see a lot of profile. His tour that began in 2024 was billed as his first comedy tour since 2016, and most of its stops are arenas, with some theater-size rooms.

Arena comedy, section by section

  • Front floor: the only place you read his face without help from a screen. Comedy floors are usually folding chairs on a flat surface, so one tall person ahead can block you. Past the middle of the floor, you gain little over the lower level.
  • Lower level, center: the pick for most buyers. The rake (the upward slope of the seating) clears the floor, the main screens are straight ahead, and the sound is even.
  • Lower level, stage-side: physically close, but the angle is steep and you will watch his side more than his face.
  • Upper level: a good arena sound system carries every punchline up here, yet the screens become the show. Middle sections beat high corners.

Theater dates

The tour has also played smaller rooms such as Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida. At that scale nearly every seat sees him directly, and a front mezzanine seat can be better than the far edges of the orchestra (the main floor).

Rotating openers and adult material

A ticket buys a package, not a solo hour. Guest comics come on before the headliner, and the lineup changes city by city. Names announced for the 2024 run included Gary Owen, Deon Cole, Ms. Pat, Rickey Smiley, Jess Hilarious, DC Youngfly, B. Simone, Desi Banks, Adele Givens, Chico Bean, Benji Brown and Mojo Brookzz. In Cleveland, for example, the bill listed Gary Owen, Mojo Brookzz and Benji Brown; in Raleigh, Deon Cole and Benji Brown. Check the listing for your date.

The headline set is new material aimed at family and culture, according to the venues that announced the tour. Lawrence explained the return plainly: "Comedy gives me that instant gratification." Expect fast, character-driven storytelling and heavy profanity. His first stand-up film drew an NC-17 rating before release, which tells you the register. This is not a show for children, and some venues set age rules, so check before bringing a teenager.

His stand-up record, from Majestic Theatre to 2026

  • 1993: You So Crazy is filmed before a sold-out crowd at the Majestic Theatre in New York. It opened on April 27, 1994, and was released unrated after the NC-17 dispute.
  • 2002: Martin Lawrence Live: Runteldat, shot at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C., reaches theaters through Paramount on August 2.
  • 2016: Martin Lawrence: Doin' Time, his last stand-up film before the current tour cycle.
  • May 8, 2024: the Y'all Know What It Is! Tour is announced as a national arena run of nearly 40 cities planned into April 2025. It followed the June 7, 2024, release of Bad Boys: Ride or Die. Early dates included Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland on August 3 and Lenovo Center in Raleigh on September 6.
  • 2026: the tour continues as Y'all Still Know What It Is!, including Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood on March 21.

Current dates are in the event list on this page and on the official tour site.

Rare tours and how they sell

Eight years passed between his previous comedy tour and the 2024 run, and a new Bad Boys film the same summer kept him in the news. Scarcity plus attention is a strong recipe for early demand.

  • Presales open first. Venues and promoters often run presales before the public sale. In Hollywood, Florida, the casino offered a presale on its social channels two days ahead of general on-sale.
  • Weekend nights are the competitive ones. Friday and Saturday dates in big markets go fastest.
  • The opener can move a date. A popular guest comic on a given night adds demand for that show.
  • Seats near the front hold value. Close floor rows and center lower-level sections stay firm longest, while upper-level seats often ease as the date nears unless the room is close to full.

Reserved Seat backs each order with a 100% guarantee. Some comedy shows lock phones in pouches during the set; check the venue's current policy before you go.

Landover, Def Comedy Jam and Bad Boys

Martin Lawrence was born on April 16, 1965, in Frankfurt, West Germany, where his father was stationed with the US Air Force. The family settled in Landover, Maryland, when he was seven, and as a teenager he contended in Mid-Atlantic Golden Gloves boxing. He started telling jokes around Washington, D.C., then took comic Ritch Shydner's advice to move to New York, where he worked The Improv. His first acting role was Maurice Warfield on What's Happening Now!! (1987 to 1988).

Russell Simmons chose him to host HBO's Def Comedy Jam, the showcase that introduced national audiences to comics such as Bernie Mac, Chris Tucker, Cedric the Entertainer and Dave Chappelle. He co-created and starred in Martin on Fox from 1992 to 1997, the anchor of the network's Thursday nights, earning NAACP Image Awards in 1995 and 1996. On film he played Detective Marcus Burnett opposite Will Smith in Bad Boys (1995) and three sequels, and starred in Big Momma's House (2000), Blue Streak, Life and Wild Hogs (2007). He received a Hollywood Walk of Fame star on April 20, 2023, and a 2025 NAACP Image Award for Bad Boys: Ride or Die.
