Upcoming Vulfpeck dates
Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.
Pick for the mix, not the rail
The best Vulfpeck seat is the one with the clearest sound and a full view of the stage: in a theater, a seat on the main floor (the orchestra) in the center block, set back from the stage rather than right against it, or the first rows of the balcony. Vulfpeck is a funk and soul collective that keeps its arrangements sparse, with the bass often carrying the lead line, so hearing each player separately is the whole experience.
Closeness still has a place. The front rail on a standing floor is where the dancing is. But if you want to follow a groove as it passes from Joe Dart's bass to the keys to a guest soloist, a centered seat with a direct line to the sound system beats a spot pressed against the stage at an angle.
- Best overall: center block of the orchestra, mid-depth.
- Best view of every player: opening rows of the balcony.
- Best energy: the front of a general-admission floor.
- Weakest: hard side angles near the stage and the back of an outdoor lawn.
Theater, floor, arena and lawn compared
Vulfpeck plays theaters and concert halls most often, with occasional arena nights and festival slots. Check the seating map on each listing, because layouts change from room to room.
Theaters and concert halls
The center orchestra blends the band best. The front of the balcony shows you the entire lineup at once, which helps when solos move around the stage. Under a deep balcony overhang, the sound can feel boxed in.
General-admission floors
Clubs and some theaters remove seats for a standing floor (no assigned spots). Stand near the sound desk in the middle of the room for the most accurate mix, or move forward if you want the crowd.
Arenas, including Madison Square Garden
For basketball, the Garden holds 19,812, a measure of how far a self-run funk band climbed. Choose the lower tier straight across from the stage for sound and sightline. Sections tucked beside the stage look at the players from behind and lose the screens.
Amphitheaters
Reserved center seats under the roof keep the detail. The rear of a lawn loses the small sounds a minimalist band depends on.
A session band that never existed
Stratton and his classmates at the University of Michigan School of Music started the group in Ann Arbor in 2011. His concept was a fictional German answer to the house bands that played on 1960s American hits, the Funk Brothers and the Wrecking Crew among them. Stratton, Theo Katzman, Woody Goss and bassist Joe Dart make up the original four.
A wider circle of collaborators fills out records and tours, Cory Wong, Antwaun Stanley and Louis Cato among the best known, so the people on stage vary from night to night. Releases come out on the band's own imprint, Vulf Records. For 2026 dates, Cato covers Katzman's role while Katzman concentrates on his solo career.
The silent album that paid for a tour
In March 2014 the band put Sleepify on Spotify: ten silent tracks that fans streamed while they slept. It earned about 20,000 dollars in royalties in two months before Spotify removed it, and that money funded the free-admission Sleepify Tour that September.
What the stage sound is built on
The production model is 1970s live television, shows like The Midnight Special: a small, open mix where nothing hides. The band records live on real instruments and rarely stitches takes together, and songs keep developing through improvisation, so the concert lands near the recorded versions while leaving space to explore.
Special guests turn up often. At the Garden, the band brought out Bernard Purdie on drums, Chris Thile on mandolin and Dave Koz on saxophone. A rotating cast means one night on a tour may feel nothing like the next.
A quick listening list before you go: the debut full-length Thrill of the Arts (2015) climbed to No. 16 on the US R&B Albums chart; The Beautiful Game (2016) contains "Dean Town," Dart's reading of the Jaco Pastorius bass part from Weather Report's "Teen Town"; Mr Finish Line (2017) and Hill Climber (2018) feature elders such as Bootsy Collins and James Gadson; and Clarity of Cal (2025) was captured in front of audiences in Berkeley and Los Angeles, three years after Schvitz.
Runs that defined the band, 2014 to 2025
- September 2014: the Sleepify Tour gives away admission in five cities, from San Francisco to New York, with an Ann Arbor homecoming.
- 2017 to 2019: the Wisdom of Crowds Tour, the main touring cycle of the period.
- September 2019: the band fills Madison Square Garden with no manager and no label, a rare feat, and puts out the concert as a live album and film.
- 2023 to 2024: US and European dates resume, with Bonnaroo (2023) and the French festival Jazz à Vienne (2024) among them.
- September 2024: an eight-night West Coast stand, six at Berkeley's UC Theatre and two at the Palladium in Los Angeles, recorded for Clarity of Cal.
- 2025: a return to the Garden, released as MSG II that December, and a debut in Japan at Fuji Rock.

Multi-night runs and how Vulfpeck seats sell
The fan base is loyal and connected online, and that changes the timing of sales.
- Several nights in one room spread demand unevenly. In a run like the 2024 Berkeley stand, the first night, the last night and the weekend shows tend to sell first. Midweek nights in the middle usually offer more choice.
- Event nights draw travelers. A Garden date or a recorded run is treated as a destination, so those seats tighten early.
- The email list gets there first. Announcements go to the band's mailing list and social channels, and early sales often absorb much of the first allotment.
- Theater capacity is the ceiling. With limited seats, late buyers often turn to resale, where prices can sit above or below face value.
Bag, camera and age rules belong to each venue; confirm them with the building ahead of the show. Every Reserved Seat order is covered by a 100% guarantee. Band news and tour dates are posted at vulfpeck.com.
Frequently asked questions
Is it better to stand or sit at a Vulfpeck show?
Sit centered if you want to hear each instrument clearly; the center orchestra or front balcony is ideal. Stand at the front of a general-admission floor if you came to dance.
Which musicians play in Vulfpeck?
Jack Stratton founded it with Theo Katzman, Woody Goss and Joe Dart. Collaborators including Cory Wong, Antwaun Stanley and Louis Cato rotate in, so lineups differ between shows.
Why do people call Vulfpeck independent?
It puts out records through Vulf Records, a label the band runs itself, and its 2019 Garden sellout came without a manager or a record company.
Which night of a multi-night Vulfpeck run is easiest to get?
Midweek nights in the middle of a run usually have the most availability, since opening, closing and weekend nights tend to sell first.
Who replaced Theo Katzman on tour?
For 2026 touring, Louis Cato stepped in while Katzman focuses on his solo music.
