Retired from touring in 2023 · sit facing the piano

With touring behind him, an Elton John show is a single event rather than a tour stop, and seeing him at the piano starts with the side of the room you pick.

Upcoming Elton John dates

Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.

The seat that sees his hands

Elton John retired from touring in July 2023, so any show he plays now is a one-off, and the seat to want is one that faces the piano. He plays seated, usually angled sideways to the crowd, which means one side of the venue sees his face and hands and the other mostly sees his back. If the event publishes a stage layout, choose the piano side. If it does not, seats square to the stage are the safe choice.

Beyond that, the usual rules for a seated, listening show apply: a raised seat facing the stage beats a flat floor seat behind other people, and a centered upper seat beats a far corner.

Stadium, festival and theater-size rooms

Since he no longer tours, a new date could land in a stadium, a festival field, a special event or a theater-style hall.

Stadiums

  • Lower level facing the stage: the strongest mix of sightline and sound.
  • Field: the closest seats, but flat, so the rear rows rely on video screens.
  • Upper level, center: the value tier. From a far-side corner the stage shrinks to a sliver.

Theater-style rooms

In a room the size of The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, almost every seat is close. The center orchestra (the main floor facing the stage) is the premium spot, and the upper tier is the value buy.

Festivals and special events

When he appears as part of a bigger event, access usually comes through that event's own ticket, and viewing areas follow the event's layout rather than a concert seat map.

What the show sounds like

The show is built around Elton at the piano with a band that guitarist and music director Davey Johnstone and drummer Nigel Olsson anchored for decades. The set runs through the catalog: "Your Song," "Tiny Dancer," "Rocket Man," "Bennie and the Jets," "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting" and "I'm Still Standing" are the kind of songs fans expect, though set lists vary.

The farewell tour added huge video screens and elaborate costumes, a nod to his famously flamboyant stage wardrobe. Stadium crowds sing the choruses together, and the long piano passages are exactly why a clear view of the keyboard is worth paying for.

The farewell tour and the Las Vegas years

  • October 25 and 26, 1975: two nights at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, among the most celebrated concerts of his early career.
  • 2004 onward, The Red Piano: a Caesars Palace residency that opened on February 13, 2004, alternating with Celine Dion and featuring visuals and props by David LaChapelle. His 200th show there came on June 21, 2008.
  • 2011 onward, The Million Dollar Piano: a second residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, starting September 28, 2011.
  • 2018 to 2023, Farewell Yellow Brick Road: 330 concerts from the PPL Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania, on September 8, 2018, to Stockholm on July 8, 2023, with 6.1 million tickets sold. Interrupted by the pandemic and a hip injury, it shifted to stadiums in 2022, including three Dodger Stadium nights that November, and became the highest-grossing tour on record at the time, a mark Taylor Swift's Eras Tour later passed. His Glastonbury headline set on June 25, 2023, drew the festival's biggest UK television audience.

He has said he will still "do the odd show." Since retiring he sang "Tiny Dancer" at the New York Film Festival on October 1, 2024, and played the Singapore Grand Prix on October 5, 2025, to more than 70,000 people. Any current dates appear in the event list on this page.

Why one-off dates sell like a whole tour

Scarcity rules the Elton John market now.

  • All demand, one on-sale: a single show absorbs the buyers a tour would spread across dozens of cities.
  • A history of fast sellouts: when the farewell tour went on sale on February 24, 2018, its first 60 shows sold out within hours. Expect similar pressure for anything new.
  • Event-bundled access: appearances such as the Singapore Grand Prix were tied to larger events, so getting in can mean buying that event's ticket.
  • Movement near the date: resale prices can sit above or below face value and often shift in the last days as travelers finalize plans.

Reginald Dwight to Sir Elton

Elton John was born Reginald Kenneth Dwight on March 25, 1947, in Pinner, Middlesex. A scholarship took him to the Royal Academy of Music, and in the late 1960s he began writing with lyricist Bernie Taupin, a partnership behind most of his best-known songs. Honky Château (1972) and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (1973) are among the records that built the catalog, and his sales exceed 300 million. He has won five Grammys, two Academy Awards, an Emmy and a Tony (for Aida), making him an EGOT winner, and he wrote the songs for The Lion King. He has also been knighted.
