Upcoming Deadmau5 dates
Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.
Face the production: the Deadmau5 spot rule
At a Deadmau5 show, line yourself up square with the stage. He stands behind a booth in his lit-up mau5head helmet, so what you are really watching is the screens, the lighting and the sound system. On a standing floor, aim for the center around the mixing desk, where the audio is tuned and the screens fit inside your field of view. In a seated amphitheater, center sections win.
Deadmau5 (said "dead mouse") is the Canadian producer and DJ Joel Thomas Zimmerman. His dates range from small clubs to outdoor bowls and festival fields, so study the map for each event.
Floor, benches, hillside and club tables
- GA floor, front rail: packed and heavy on bass. Fun to dance in, but too close to take in the screens.
- GA floor, middle: the sweet spot by the sound desk, with balanced audio and the whole visual field.
- Red Rocks Amphitheatre: roughly 9,525 people on 70 steeply stacked bench rows. Because of the rake, rows from the middle up see over everyone to the whole stage. Listings say whether rows are reserved or GA; for GA, get in line early to claim the middle.
- Hollywood Bowl: around 17,500 seats rising up a hill. Sit in line with the shell for the visuals; the outer wedges look across the stage sideways.
- Clubs: table packages and raised platforms are sold separately and trade dance space for elbow room and sightlines. Plenty of clubs are strictly 21-plus.
Stay away from seats beside or behind the stage. From there the booth blocks the screens, and the screens are what you came for.
After the Cube: what the show looks like now
Zimmerman was one of the producers who made a DJ set into a stage production. Coachella 2010 introduced the Cube, a box wrapped in LED panels that he performed inside, ringed with lights and pyro. Each generation got bigger, and the last, Cube V3, could spin a full circle and tilt, with over 600 LED panels on a 260-ton frame. The Cube was retired in 2025; do not expect a show today to look like clips from those years.
What remains: the glowing helmet, visuals locked to the music, and patient, slow-building sets rather than drop after drop. Much of the music is progressive house, a melodic style built on gradual buildups, usually near 128 beats per minute, and mostly instrumental. You will stand among veterans who know every B-side and newer fans waiting for the hits.
Strobe, Ghosts 'n' Stuff and the records fans wait for
Most of the crowd is there for tracks from a four-album stretch between 2008 and 2012.
- "Strobe": the slow-burning centerpiece of For Lack of a Better Name (2009), which Billboard Dance named his top track in 2017. The same album has "Ghosts 'n' Stuff," sung by Rob Swire.
- "I Remember": his Kaskade collaboration from Random Album Title (2008), a Rolling Stone pick for the greatest dance songs list.
- The 2010 to 2012 run: 4×4=12 and Album Title Goes Here, including "The Veldt" and the Gerard Way feature "Professional Griefers."
- What is next: a new album was in the works, previewed by the singles "Ameonna" in fall 2025 and "Science" in early 2026.
A mouse in the computer, a helmet and a label
He was born in 1981 in Niagara Falls, Ontario. The stage name traces to a mouse that died inside his PC; when "Deadmouse" would not fit a chat username by one letter, he swapped the last s for a 5. He modeled the mau5head in 3D software back in 1999, first wore one in 2008, and has had later heads built by Jim Henson's Creature Shop. No electronic dance act had made the Rolling Stone cover before him.
His label, Mau5trap, dates to 2007 and put out the Skrillex EP that broke that artist, Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites. Honors include seven Grammy nominations, several Juno wins and, in June 2024, a place in the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. For techno he uses another name, Testpilot.
Landmark Deadmau5 shows, dated
- April 2010: the Cube debuts at Coachella.
- From March 25, 2017: a North American and European tour that carried the upgraded Cube 2.1.
- December 2022: Kx5, his duo with Kaskade, headlines the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
- 2024: the Retro5pective anniversary shows revive vintage helmets and the Cube. Three Hollywood Bowl dates start April 27, Brooklyn Mirage follows May 2, and Red Rocks hosts one on November 1. Tommy Lee, Kiesza, Sofi and Lights were among the guests.
With Rezz he performs as Rezzmau5. Current dates are in the listings on this page.
Special shows sell early, clubs sell small
- Big productions pull travelers. Retrospective shows, a returning classic stage or a landmark like Red Rocks draws out-of-town fans and sells earlier.
- Club nights are tiny by comparison. A club holds far fewer people than an outdoor bowl, so it can sell out before a much larger show in the same week.
- Festival sets come bundled. Your ticket covers every act, and set times tend to appear only days before.
- Presales lead. Mailing-list and venue presales come before the public sale; resale picks up afterward, at prices that can land over or under face value.
Every Reserved Seat order includes guaranteed entry. Club shows often run past midnight, so plan the ride home, Rules on bags, hydration packs and age vary, so confirm them with the venue. Announcements post on deadmau5.com.
Frequently asked questions
Is the front rail the best spot for Deadmau5?
Not really. Center floor, around the mixing desk, is better. You get the best audio and see all the screens; up at the rail the visuals are too big to take in.
Will Deadmau5 bring the Cube?
Probably not. The Cube made a final round of appearances in 2024 and was retired in 2025. The helmet still comes along.
Why is Deadmau5 spelled with a 5?
The plain spelling was a letter too long for an online username, so he replaced the final s with a 5. Say it dead mouse.
Are Deadmau5 club shows 21 and over?
Often, since many clubs are 21-plus. The listing states the age rule for each date.
Is a Testpilot show the same as a Deadmau5 show?
No. Testpilot, started in 2014, is his techno project and books its own sets. Look at which name appears on the listing.
