The ACL Fest Ticket Decision in Three Steps

Austin City Limits Music Festival, known as ACL Fest, takes over Zilker Park, a short trip southwest of downtown Austin, for two back-to-back three-day weekends. For 2026 the weekends fall on October 2–4 and 9–11, and you buy for one weekend at a time. Your three choices:

  1. Which weekend. Match it to your calendar and the acts you care about most; neither weekend is consistently less expensive.
  2. One day or three. Almost every tier is sold either as a single day or as the full weekend.
  3. How much comfort. GA gets you everything musical. VIP adds viewing decks and shade, which matter more than they appear to on a warm October afternoon when the main-stage crowds are packed by mid-afternoon.

The scale explains the stakes. About 75,000 people a day attended in 2025, around 450,000 admissions over six days. The festival site lists more than 100 performances on 9 stages for 2026 (Wikipedia counts eight), and sets start late morning and end around 10 at night.

Tier by Tier: GA Through Platinum

From the 2026 tickets page:

  • GA: every stage, plus the food stands, bars, merch tents, water stations and Austin Kiddie Limits, the family zone.
  • GA+: everything in GA plus lounges with seating, first come, first served.
  • VIP: capped-capacity viewing decks and seats in a shaded grove. The 2026 version also bundles complimentary drinks, a lounge with air conditioning and its own entrance.
  • Platinum: all of the above, with first access to food and drink areas and a members-only Platinum lounge.

Group packages sit above that: Bungalows hold 10 guests, The Speakeasy takes 25 to 75 for a single day, Cabanas fit 30 for three days, and Y'all Access, sold for two, may put you side stage when an artist signs off.

The value judgment: GA+ is a modest step, mainly a place to sit. VIP's decks are the real upgrade for anyone who wants to watch headliners without standing shoulder to shoulder. Platinum's premium pays for quick meals and room to sit, not a better sightline. Payment plans are offered at checkout.

Weekend One or Weekend Two

Nearly the whole bill repeats on weekend two, though acts can land on different days, and a few play just once. If a single-day ticket is for one artist, confirm that artist's date on the official schedule first.

  • Weekend one: first performances of each set and the first wave of reviews.
  • Weekend two: production issues ironed out, and seven days of social posts telling you how crowded each stage got.

On demand: interest spikes when the lineup drops in spring, then concentrates on the days with the biggest headliners. Three-day passes go first. Once single days are released, the most stacked day on each weekend usually tightens first, while lighter days stay available longer. Hotel rooms near downtown go quickly for both weekends, and fall brings college football and Moody Center concerts that chase the same rooms. Book lodging as soon as your plans are firm.

Who Plays Zilker: 2026 and Past Bills

The booking is deliberately broad, with indie bands, rappers, country singers, folk acts and DJs sharing the same fields. KUT and Rolling Stone reported the 2026 top names when the bill dropped on May 5, 2026: Kings of Leon, Lorde, Skrillex, Charli XCX, The xx, Twenty One Pilots and Rüfüs Du Sol.

Past performers include Paul McCartney, Metallica, Radiohead, Pearl Jam, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, Guns N' Roses, Arctic Monkeys, Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, Tame Impala, Vampire Weekend, Willie Nelson and hometown guitarist Gary Clark Jr.

Getting to Zilker Without a Car

General parking does not exist for the festival, and both weekends close nearby streets such as Barton Springs Road, Azie Morton Road and Stratford Drive. Leave the car behind. Based on the festival's 2025 guidance:

  • Free shuttle: boards downtown at the corner of Walter Seaholm Drive and Electric Drive from 11:30 a.m. and unloads close to the Barton Springs West gate. The obvious pick if you stay downtown.
  • Rideshare: marked zones sit on Lee Barton Drive, on Wallingwood Drive, and on Stephen F. Austin Drive by the Austin High Tennis Center. Waits and surge fares peak after the final set.
  • Bicycle: bike parking has been set up on Azie Morton Road by the Umlauf Sculpture Garden and on Stratford Drive, over the MoPac footbridge.
  • On foot: from downtown hotels, a reasonable walk in good weather and the surest way past the post-show rideshare jam.

The City of Austin posts a road-closure map each year; it is most useful if your hotel is on the south bank. Details can change, so confirm before you go.

Bag Limits, Kids and What to Wear

The 2025 rules allowed a small bag (up to 6 by 9 inches, single pocket) or a clear one up to 12 by 6 by 12 inches. Left at home: hammocks, coolers, glass, tripods, selfie sticks, pro camera rigs, shade canopies, outside food or drinks and most things on wheels. Empty reusable water bottles were fine, and every tier includes water stations. Rules are updated yearly, so read the current version in the ACL festival guide.

  • Children: per the 2026 tickets page, each paying adult can bring as many as two children aged 8 or younger at no charge. Platinum differs: toddlers 2 and younger are free, while children 3 through 8 require a Platinum Kids ticket.
  • Payment: no cash; you tap a wristband tied to your card.
  • Food and art: Austin Eats, a food court styled on New Orleans Jazz Fest's, gathers local kitchens, and artists sell work in a market open all weekend.

Wear closed-toe shoes, since the field turns dusty when dry and muddy after rain, and bring sunscreen, a hat and electrolytes. Orders through Reserved Seat include a 100% guarantee.

How a TV Show Became a Two-Weekend Festival

Austin City Limits started as a television program: the KLRU and PBS concert series that has run for decades. The festival adopted its name and its eclectic booking. It is produced by Austin's C3 Presents, the company behind Lollapalooza in Chicago. The first edition, in 2002, was a single weekend. A unanimous Austin City Council vote in August 2012 cleared a second weekend, first used in 2013. The pandemic wiped out the 2020 festival.

Frequently asked questions

Is VIP worth it at ACL Fest?

For headliner viewing, often yes. You get capped-capacity decks and shaded grove seats, plus a cooled lounge and complimentary drinks in 2026, which help on hot afternoons when GA crowds are dense.

What are the ACL Fest 2026 dates?

Weekend one is October 2–4, 2026, and weekend two is October 9–11, both in Zilker Park, with separate tickets for each.

Do all artists play both ACL weekends?

Nearly all repeat, but an act's day can change between weekends and some appear only once. Confirm the date before a single-day purchase.

Do children need tickets for ACL Fest?

Not if they are 8 or younger, up to two per paying adult. In Platinum, only kids 2 and younger are free; ages 3 through 8 need a Platinum Kids ticket.

How do you get to Zilker Park for ACL?

There is no general parking. Take the free shuttle from Walter Seaholm Drive downtown, use the designated rideshare zones, bike, or walk from downtown.

What bags are allowed at ACL Fest?

The 2025 limits were a single-pocket bag no bigger than 6 by 9 inches or a clear bag up to 12 by 6 by 12. Check the current guide before you go, as rules change yearly.
