Upcoming Lollapalooza dates
Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.
How many days, and which tier
Lollapalooza is four days in Grant Park on Chicago's downtown lakefront, usually in late July or early August. The 2026 edition ran July 30 to August 2 with more than 170 artists on eight stages. There are no seats and no campgrounds, so your choices are simple: how many days to buy, and whether to pay for a premium tier.
- Buy a single day when one headliner is the reason you are going. Expect the biggest headliner's day to sell through first.
- Buy four days if your favorite artists are spread across the schedule or you are making a Chicago trip of it. It generally works out cheaper per day than separate days.
- Buy premium if a hot, packed Saturday sounds like work. Upgraded tiers usually bring their own entrances, reserved viewing areas, lounges and better restrooms.
Tier names and perks are set each year, so check exactly what a listing includes before you buy.
When prices move and how wristbands work
Demand climbs after the lineup and then the daily schedule are published, and it can ease in the last few days if a given day has not sold out. Recent lineups have mixed arena pop with K-pop, Latin and electronic headliners, which spreads demand across all four days instead of piling it on one.
Every pass is a wristband. Wear it snugly and keep it on between days; the festival replaces a lost or damaged band only once, and only for the original purchaser. Every Reserved Seat order is backed by a 100% guarantee.
The Loop by train, bike or garage
Grant Park lies between Michigan Avenue and Lake Michigan in the Loop, and transit beats driving. The festival points visitors to CTA trains and buses, Metra commuter rail and Pace buses, and recommends the RTA trip planner.
- Garages: the Millennium Garages under Grant Park sell festival parking; the Lakeside and Grant Park garages are the festival's picks for avoiding the worst traffic.
- Bikes: in 2026 the nonprofit REVERB ran a free bike valet at Balbo Drive and Michigan Avenue, with self-park racks on the same corner.
- Rideshare: Uber zones sit near the park, with walking directions in the app. Surge pricing and long waits follow the final sets.
- From the airport: O'Hare (ORD) and Midway (MDW) both have CTA rail links to downtown.
A hotel in the Loop or South Loop means you can walk to the gates and duck out for a break. See the Lollapalooza transit help page for current details.
Bag limits, leaving and coming back
These rules are from the festival's 2026 help center and change annually.
- Small bags: a clutch or fanny pack no bigger than 6 by 9 inches can be any material, with a single pocket.
- Larger bags: must be clear and under 12 by 6 by 12 inches.
- Hydration packs: fine if empty, with at most two main compartments and one small one.
- Allowed: empty reusable, plastic or aluminum bottles, and non-aerosol sunscreen up to 3.4 ounces.
- Left at home: chairs, umbrellas, blankets, sheets, towels, outside food and drink, and totems or flag poles.
- Re-entry: after your first entry, you can leave and return two more times, with a wristband scan and security check each time.
Bring shoes that handle both pavement and grass, a light rain jacket since umbrellas are out, earplugs and a full battery. Set a fixed meeting point, such as a spot near Buckingham Fountain, in case the group splits.
A farewell tour that found a permanent home
Perry Farrell launched Lollapalooza in 1991 as a goodbye tour for Jane's Addiction. It opened in Phoenix on July 18, 1991, and closed in Enumclaw, Washington, on August 28. Nine Inch Nails, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Living Colour, Butthole Surfers, Rollins Band, and Ice-T with Body Count filled out that first bill, which became a marker of the alternative rock years.
The tour ran each summer through 1997, came back in 2003 and was called off in 2004. In 2005 Farrell teamed with Capital Sports Entertainment, now C3 Presents, to settle it in Grant Park, its home ever since apart from a digital-only 2020. Live Nation took a controlling stake in C3 in 2014, and the festival went to four days in 2016 for its 25th anniversary. Daily capacity is about 115,000, and organizers reported roughly 460,000 attendees across the four days of 2024. Spin-off editions have run in Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Germany, France, Sweden and India.
