Upcoming Nebraska Cornhuskers football dates
Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.
Your Husker seat in one decision: which side of Memorial Stadium
At a Nebraska Cornhuskers game, start with the side. West Stadium puts the afternoon sun behind you and holds the club seats and most of the chairbacks. East Stadium is just as close to the field but faces the sun at a day game. On either side, the low rows from 30 to 30 give the truest football view, and the higher rows of those same sidelines stretch your budget furthest for a marquee game.
Memorial Stadium in Lincoln seats 85,458 and has been sold out for every game since 1962. Home Saturdays start around the end of summer and wrap up in November.
- Best view: lower east or west sideline, between the 30s.
- Best comfort: the clubs and skyboxes on the west side.
- Best value: upper sideline sections on either side.
- Only if you plan to stand: the Boneyard student section in the southeast corner.
West, East, North, South: Lincoln's four stadiums in one
The original 1923 stadium was two sideline grandstands. Each side has been rebuilt on its own schedule, and locals still call them by compass name.
West Stadium
The 1999 project gave this side its press box, its skyboxes and its club level. If seat comfort matters, this is the main place to find chairbacks; most of the rest of the stadium is bench seating.
East Stadium
Work completed in 2013 introduced standing room, a first for the building. In an afternoon game, east-side fans look toward the sun, which you will feel in September and may welcome in November.
North Stadium
A 2006 addition stretched this end with extra rows and luxury boxes. The main video board looms overhead, and fans directly beneath it get supplemental screens for replays.
South Stadium
Alone among the four, this end has gone without a major overhaul. That changes with a rebuild approved in April 2026, targeted for 2028, which should take out roughly 5,000 seats. Ask about construction effects before you buy here.
The Boneyard
Students take the southeast corner, where the East and South stands join; the name comes from the Husker defense. Per the athletic department, nobody in a student section sits down during play.
Iowa week and the visitors that sell out Lincoln fastest
The Big Ten's 2024 scheduling format left Nebraska with exactly one guaranteed annual foe: Iowa. The teams play for the Heroes Trophy, and in a year the Hawkeyes come to Lincoln, that game anchors the home schedule.
- Wisconsin: Winner takes the Freedom Trophy, introduced in 2014.
- Minnesota: A fixture on the schedule from Nebraska's first Big Ten season, 2011, though the older series was lopsided at times.
- Big-brand visitors: When the Buckeyes, Wolverines, Nittany Lions or a West Coast newcomer come to town, expect a national broadcast and plenty of visiting fans.
- Old Big Eight rivals: Oklahoma (the opponent in the 1971 Game of the Century) and Colorado are off the yearly schedule now, so a booked meeting with either becomes an instant hot ticket.
Night games matter more in Lincoln than in most places. Memorial Stadium did not host one until 1986 and had no permanent lights before 1999, which is why an evening kickoff in Lincoln still carries extra buzz.
Tunnel Walk, balloons and the visitors' ovation
The Tunnel Walk, a fixture since the early 1990s, is the moment to be seated. A back-and-forth Husker Power chant builds, and then "Sirius" by the Alan Parsons Project sends the players onto the field. They emerge from the northeast corner, the route since the locker room relocated to the Osborne Legacy Complex in 2023.
- Sportsmanship: Before the game the band performs the opponent's fight song, and afterward fans clap the visiting team off the field regardless of the score, a long-standing habit.
- Red balloons: Fans have let them go at the first Husker score since the 1960s, but helium shortages stopped the practice in 2012 and in 2022, so do not count on it.
- Beer: Nebraska was the final Big Ten holdout, approving gameday alcohol only in 2025. The current guide caps purchases at two, checks ID every time and ends sales once the third quarter is over.
For the current season, doors open an hour and a half ahead (earlier for students), entry closes when the fourth quarter begins, no cash is accepted anywhere, and bags must be clear and within 12 by 6 by 12 inches. Lots next to the stadium are for donors, so build in a shuttle ride or a walk. Review the Huskers gameday information page before you go.
Buying into a stadium that never has empty tickets
More than 400 consecutive sellouts, a record across every NCAA sport, means the stadium is spoken for before the season starts. Donors and season holders own most of it, and students have their own pool. Note how the school defines a sellout: all tickets sold, not all seats occupied. For headline games, almost nothing is left for a general sale.
That pushes most buyers to resale. Prices run highest for Iowa years, ranked visitors and prime-time games, and they slip for September nonconference dates or a disappointing season, which is when prime rows get more affordable. Low sideline rows cost the most; the upper sidelines and the end zones give you the most for your money. Reserved Seat orders include guaranteed entry.
Devaney, Osborne and the making of the Sea of Red
Memorial Stadium has been home since its October 13, 1923, debut, when it held 31,080. Seats at the ends followed in the 1960s, and the West, North and East projects of 1999, 2006 and 2013 wrapped the bowl. Wider seats later settled capacity at 85,458. The north–south field took Tom Osborne's name in 1998 and switched to FieldTurf a year later.
Few major programs have won more. Nebraska owns five national championships (1970, 1971, 1994, 1995, 1997) and 46 league titles. Bob Devaney, hired in 1962, turned the Huskers into a power and won back-to-back crowns. His successor, Tom Osborne, coached from 1973 for a quarter century and closed with three titles in four seasons. Rodgers, Rozier and Crouch brought home Heisman Trophies, and the 1971 and 1995 squads rank on many all-time lists. Nebraska spent over 100 years in the Missouri Valley, Big Eight and Big 12 before switching to the Big Ten in 2011. For today's coaching staff, see huskers.com.
Frequently asked questions
Which side of Memorial Stadium is better for a day game?
West Stadium. The field runs north to south, so west-side fans have the afternoon sun behind them while east-side fans face it.
Where are the chairback seats in Memorial Stadium?
Mostly in the West Stadium premium areas. Much of the rest of the stadium uses bench seating.
What is the Boneyard?
The student section in the southeast corner, at the seam of the East and South stands, named after the Husker defense. Expect to stand all game.
Is South Stadium under construction?
Work is coming: a rebuild approved in April 2026 targets completion in 2028 and should remove roughly 5,000 seats. Ask about construction effects before buying in the south end.
What time do gates open at Memorial Stadium?
For the current season, 90 minutes ahead of kickoff, with students admitted earlier. No one gets in once the fourth quarter begins.
When did Nebraska's sellout streak start?
November 1962. More than 400 straight games later, it is the longest such run in any NCAA sport, measured by tickets sold rather than seats filled.
