South Carolina Gamecocks Football Tickets

Best pick: lower sideline between the 20s · renovation through 2028

Williams-Brice is loud, hot in September and mid-renovation through 2028. Here is how to pick a seat that holds up for a South Carolina home game.

Upcoming South Carolina Gamecocks football dates

Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.

Williams-Brice seats: the quick answer

For a South Carolina home game, aim for a lower-level sideline seat between the 20-yard lines, in the middle rows. You see plays develop and stay inside the noise that made Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia one of the loudest venues in college football. Before construction began, its official count was 77,559, and the work continues into 2028. Home dates fall between September and November.

If price matters most, look at the end zones and the upper deck. For a hot afternoon kickoff, prioritize a seat under an overhang.

How the renovation changes the seat map

A renovation announced in 2025 adds premium seating and continues through the 2028 season. On the west side, the ten highest rows are coming out so suites can go in, a change projected to cut about 4,100 seats.

For buyers, that means older seating charts may not match what is in the building, especially on the west side and its concourses. Compare the section and row on your listing with the current stadium map before you reserve, and expect the reduced capacity to tighten supply for big games while the work continues.

West, east and the south end at Williams-Brice

Built as Columbia Municipal Stadium and opened on October 6, 1934, the venue expanded piece by piece until the bowl was fully enclosed.

  • West grandstand: reconstructed in 1971–72 with a second deck on top, and the section most affected by the current renovation.
  • East grandstand: the only remaining part of the original 1934 structure, given a second deck in 1982.
  • South end zone: home to The Zone, a premium banquet area in the upper level.

Choosing a level

Lower-level sideline seats give the best balance of view and atmosphere. Seats up high or behind the goal lines show formations clearly, though the opposite end of the field looks distant.

Heat and shade

Early September afternoon games in Columbia are hot. Overhangs from the upper decks provide most of the shade, so ask whether a listing is covered before you buy for a day game. Night kickoffs make the question moot.

Students and visitors

Eligible students receive their tickets straight from the university, and no visitor-section map appears on the athletics gameday page. If a listing is labeled as visitor seating, confirm its location on the stadium map.

Palmetto Bowl years and Georgia visits

Clemson

The in-state series began in Columbia on November 12, 1896. For decades, until 1959, the rivalry was known as Big Thursday and was played in Columbia while the State Fair was on. Home sites have alternated since 1960, the game has settled into late November around Thanksgiving since 1962, and the Palmetto Trophy has gone to the winner since 2015. In years when Clemson comes to Columbia, the week brings the Tiger Burn, and the game is usually the season's hardest seat to land.

Georgia

The two schools have played since 1894. The stadium record, 85,199, came on October 6, 2012, when No. 6 South Carolina beat No. 5 Georgia 35–7.

Everything else

Ranked SEC visitors and night games draw the largest crowds. Non-conference games early in the season are the easiest tickets to find.

Zarathustra, Sandstorm and the Cockaboose Railroad

  • The entrance: the swelling opening bars of Also sprach Zarathustra, familiar from the film 2001: A Space Odyssey, announce the team's arrival. Get to your seat early so you see it.
  • Sandstorm: Darude's dance track blasts ahead of the first kickoff and again after each touchdown, now paired with LED lighting, and the press box has been known to shake while it plays.
  • The Cockaboose Railroad: a row of 22 garnet-and-black cabooses has lined a rail spur south of the stadium since 1990, each converted into a private tailgating suite.
  • Garnet Way: a landscaped walkway, added in 2012, that runs through 52 acres of tailgating space; players, band members and cheerleaders use it on their way in.
  • Cocky: the costumed mascot, on the job since 1980.

You will find the stadium on the corner of Bluff Road and George Rogers Boulevard, beside the State Fairgrounds. The lots around it, Gamecock Park across the road among them, are packed with tailgates well before kickoff.

Gate times and the 2026 entry rules

The athletics department's 2026 rules for Williams-Brice:

  • Early gates: seven gates (5, 20, 38, 45, 56, 83 and 95) let fans in two hours ahead of kickoff, and Gate 45 opens a full three hours ahead for Cockaboose Club tickets. The rest open 90 minutes ahead.
  • Tickets: phone-based for everyone outside premium areas; use the gate listed on the ticket.
  • Bags: a single clear bag (12 by 6 by 12 inches maximum) or a gallon-size clear freezer bag, along with a small clutch no bigger than 4.5 by 6.5 inches. Backpacks and fanny packs are banned, as are cushions that have zippers or pockets.
  • Re-entry: not allowed.
  • Payment: cashless, with reverse ATMs that load cash onto a debit card.

Rules can change between seasons, so review the Gamecocks gameday page during game week.

Where Gamecocks tickets come from

Season seats are handled by the Gamecock Club, the department's donor organization, which assigns locations by priority points built up through contributions. Students pay nothing for tickets, but they have to request them through the Gamecock Student Rewards app, where points decide who gets in. For games with softer demand, the athletics office sells individual tickets.

When Clemson, Georgia or a ranked conference rival visits, top donors control the prime sideline seats, and most everyone else turns to resale. The matchup, the polls, the start time and the forecast all move prices, and the renovation's seat reduction may tighten supply through 2028. Every Reserved Seat order carries a 100% guarantee, and Reserved Seat is independent of the University of South Carolina.

Rogers, Holtz and Spurrier: program background

South Carolina first played in 1892. After 18 seasons in the Atlantic Coast Conference (1953–1970) and two decades as an independent (1971–1991), it joined the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in 1992.

Running back George Rogers led the country with 1,894 yards in 1980, took home the Heisman Trophy and went No. 1 overall in the next spring's NFL draft. Lou Holtz ran the program from 1999 through 2004. Under Steve Spurrier (2005–2015, 86–49), the Gamecocks won the 2010 SEC East and strung together 11-win seasons in 2011, 2012 and 2013, the last of them ending at No. 4 in the AP and Coaches polls. Frequently asked questions

What is the best seat at Williams-Brice Stadium?

Middle rows on a lower sideline, between the 20s. The upper deck and end zones are cheaper but give you a more distant view.

How do I find shade at a Gamecocks day game?

Most shade comes from the upper-deck overhangs, so target rows beneath them. Ask whether a listing is covered before you buy.

Will the renovation affect my seats at Williams-Brice?

Possibly. Construction lasts through 2028 and eliminates the highest ten rows on the west side, so match your listing to the latest map.

What is the Cockaboose Railroad?

Twenty-two cabooses in garnet and black, set on rails just south of the stadium since 1990 and used as private tailgate spaces.

Are South Carolina football tickets mobile only?

As of 2026, yes, apart from premium seats. Your phone ticket also tells you which gate to use.
