Yas Marina grandstands: decide what you want to see

At the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, there is no single best grandstand, so pick by priority. For overtaking, sit where the long back straight ends in heavy braking near Turn 6. For the setting, sit by the marina and the hotel that spans the track. If the launch off the grid and pit stops matter most, check this year's map to be sure your Main grandstand looks onto them. Track action starts Thursday, December 3, 2026, and the Grand Prix itself goes off on Sunday, December 6, on Abu Dhabi's Yas Island.

Whatever you choose, make sure a big screen is in view. From any one seat you watch only a sliver of the 5.281 km lap, and the screen is how you keep track of positions.

Main, West, North, South and Marina compared

Seating is split into five zones, labeled Main, West, North, South and Marina. Zone names and section lists get reshuffled from season to season; use the official map for your year.

• Main: at most Formula 1 tracks, the main grandstand overlooks the start-finish straight and the pit lane. Pay the premium only after you confirm that is true of this year's layout.
• Braking-zone seats: the back straight stretches roughly 1.2 km from Turn 5 to Turn 6 and is where most passing happens. Seats overlooking its end put you where moves are most likely.
• Marina seats: yachts, the hotel built right over the circuit (the W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island, an Asymptote Architecture design), and cars streaking under it at night. These corners are slower and technical, so expect atmosphere rather than overtakes.

One quirk to know: the pit exit tunnels under the track, so a car exiting its pit box disappears before rejoining, unseen from most seats.

Sunlight, floodlights and early-December weather

When Abu Dhabi debuted on November 1, 2009, it gave Formula 1 its first race to run from day into night, starting at 5 p.m. and ending under fixed floodlights. The circuit bills that installation as the biggest permanent lighting system at any sports venue. Today's race keeps the same arc, green light in late-afternoon sun and checkered flag after dark, and watching the track change color is much of the appeal.

December heat is nothing like a Gulf summer, though sun during the daytime sessions is still intense. Bring sunglasses and a hat for the daylight running, and expect long days, with on-track running into the evening and a concert after.

3-day or 4-day tickets, and the concerts that come with them

The organizer sells tickets on its own site, using Ticketmaster to process them. Passes for 2026 come in three-day and four-day versions spanning Thursday through Sunday, and the price depends on both the grandstand and how many days you buy; when comparing two grandstands, compare the same number of days.

Your race pass doubles as a concert pass. Only Grand Prix ticket holders get into the general admission concert area, and a paid Golden Circle upgrade moves you nearer the stage. Acts named for 2026 so far:

• The Chainsmokers and The Script on Sunday
• Zara Larsson and Lewis Capaldi on Thursday
• Alex Warren on Friday, the first name announced

More names are released over time; the organizer's site keeps the lineup current. On resale, demand peaks when the championship is still open going into the final race and concentrates on race day and the start-finish area. Qualifying day, Saturday, pairs a pole shootout with a headliner and frequently costs less.

Hotels, transport and ticket perks on Yas Island

• Stay close. The island is a resort area just outside the city, and rooms near the track go early. The 2026 checkout lets you bundle a hotel with your ticket.
• Plan the ride home. With evening sessions and concerts afterward, finishes are late, so know how you are getting back to your room before race weekend starts.
• Use the extras. According to the organizer, a 2026 ticket also gets you into certain local attractions free and discounts at others.

The finale: Tilke's track, a 2021 redesign and title nights

Hermann Tilke designed Yas Marina Circuit, which opened in October 2009 and holds roughly 60,000 spectators. Ahead of 2021 the layout lost 273 meters and five corners, dropping to 5.281 km and 16 turns; several corners were opened up and Turn 9 gained banking, all to encourage passing. The race is 58 laps. A December 2021 agreement keeps Abu Dhabi as the season's last round through 2030, so when a title is open, this is where it is settled; when it is not, the weekend becomes a send-off for departing drivers and cars.

• 2009: Sebastian Vettel won the inaugural race.
• 2010: Vettel won again and clinched his first world title.
• 2021: Max Verstappen took the race and his first championship over Lewis Hamilton after a disputed restart behind the safety car with one lap left, still one of the sport's most argued-over finishes.

Recent winners: Hamilton (2019), Verstappen four straight times (2020–2023), Lando Norris (2024) and Verstappen once more (2025).
