Upcoming Monaco Grand Prix dates
Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.
Pick your corner, because passing is rare
At Monaco the cars rarely pass each other, so the corner you sit at is the race you see. For a first visit, the harbor grandstands near the Swimming Pool and the Nouvelle Chicane give you the most: quick changes of direction between the walls, the one realistic overtaking spot and the yachts behind. Choose Sainte-Dévote if the start matters most to you. In any stand, a higher row facing a video screen beats a low row pressed against the fencing.
The 2027 Monaco Grand Prix runs June 3 to 6, with Formula 1 on track June 4 to 6. It is 78 laps of a 2.074-mile (3.337 km), 19-turn street circuit around Port Hercules, the harbor of Monte Carlo and La Condamine.
Monaco grandstand areas compared
- Sainte-Dévote (Turn 1): a near right angle taken in first or second gear just after the start. The whole field arrives at once, so lap-one contact is most likely here.
- Casino Square: the top of the climb from Sainte-Dévote, some 44 meters above the circuit's lowest point, and the picture most people have of Monaco.
- Fairmont Hairpin: the slowest corner in Formula 1, at about 30 mph. You can watch drivers work the wheel.
- Tunnel exit and Nouvelle Chicane: cars burst out of the tunnel at about 160 mph and brake hard into the chicane, the circuit's main passing point.
- Tabac and the Swimming Pool: the fast harborside section, with rapid direction changes and stands that face the water.
- La Rascasse and Antony Noghès: the last two corners before the pit straight. La Rascasse turns through 135 degrees on full steering lock.
Almost all seating is in temporary grandstands, most around the harbor. Building the circuit takes about six weeks and removing it about three, and total spectator capacity is about 37,000. Low rows feel close, but barriers and catch fencing cut your view of the track. Within any stand, compare rows and check whether a seat faces a screen before buying.
Why Saturday is worth a ticket
Grid position decides most Monaco races. The track is narrow, walled and short on passing places, and in 2024 the top ten finished in exactly the order they started. That makes Saturday qualifying nearly as important as Sunday. Sunday remains the day most fans ask for.
The 2027 weekend adds a twist: the Automobile Club de Monaco (ACM) is introducing a sprint weekend at Monaco, a first for the event: qualifying happens twice and so does racing. Days that once carried only practice now include competitive sessions, which strengthens the case for a multi-day ticket. Formula 1 practice has run on Friday since 2022; before that, Monaco practiced on Thursday and opened its streets to the public on Friday. Formula 2 and Formula 3 races fill out the program.
Grandstands, hospitality and private balconies
Tickets are sold by the ACM on its own platform and are also listed in Formula 1's online ticket store. Supply comes in three forms:
- Grandstand seats in the temporary stands, priced by location. The harbor stands pack the most action into each seat.
- Hospitality packages from the ACM and from Formula 1's own hospitality program, with food and drink and an improved view.
- Private viewing from a yacht, a hotel room, an apartment or a balcony overlooking the track. Hotels and residents sell these views directly, outside the standard ticket channels.
The principality is small and the grandstands are fixed in size, so the best seats go well before race week. Every Reserved Seat order is backed by a 100% guarantee, which helps on a trip with fixed travel dates and scarce hotel rooms.
Reaching Monte Carlo from Nice and the coast
Monaco has no airport. Visitors fly into Nice Côte d'Azur Airport in France and continue by the Express 110 bus, by train via Nice or by helicopter shuttle to the Monaco Heliport. The underground Monaco-Monte-Carlo station is served by regional TER trains and the TGV on the Marseille to Ventimiglia line, so rail is the simplest arrival from Nice, Menton or the Italian border towns.
Inside the principality you walk. The race uses the main streets, routes change during the event and crossings are limited, so allow extra time to reach your stand, especially if it sits across the harbor from the station. Hotel rooms are scarce, and many visitors stay along the coast and take the train in. The ACM posts access rules, accessibility details and an FAQ each year; check its useful information page before you travel.
Yachts, parties and the royal box
Monaco is a social occasion as much as a race. Yachts crowd the harbor, many guests watch from boats and balconies, and parties carry on through the weekend in clubs and on the water. After the checkered flag, Port Hercules fills with people joining the celebration.
The prize-giving has its own history. Monaco long did without a podium: the three fastest drivers climbed to the royal box instead to collect their silverware. A podium has stood since 2017, and three generations of Monaco's royal family have lent the race their patronage.
Nearly a century on the same streets
Antony Noghès of the ACM organized the first race, on April 14, 1929, under Prince Louis II, and William Grover-Williams won it in a Bugatti. Monaco was on the first Formula 1 World Championship calendar in 1950 then skipped some early-1950s seasons before an unbroken run starting in 1955 that lasted until COVID-19 wiped out the 2020 edition. Along with the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Indianapolis 500, it forms the Triple Crown of Motorsport, and it is the only Grand Prix permitted to run short of Formula 1's minimum race distance.
Ayrton Senna holds the record with six wins, five of them in a row from 1989 to 1993. Graham Hill won five in the 1960s and earned the name Mr. Monaco. Charles Leclerc's 2024 win made him the first Monegasque winner since Louis Chiron in 1931, and Kimi Antonelli became the youngest winner when he took the 2026 race for Mercedes.
The layout has barely moved in decades; the big revisions were the Swimming Pool complex in 1973 and the Nouvelle Chicane in 1986, which required building out into the harbor. Two drivers have crashed into the harbor, most famously Alberto Ascari in 1955. A mandatory two-stop rule tried in 2025 to add strategy was dropped for 2026. The race long fell in late May, often on Ascension weekend and against the Indianapolis 500; since 2026 it has moved to the first weekend of June, and the ACM's contract runs through 2035. For the rest of the season, see the Formula 1 guide and the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
