Upcoming MLB All-Star Game dates

Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.

Two nights, two different best seats

All-Star Week asks you to pick seats twice, because the Home Run Derby and the game reward opposite parts of the ballpark. For the Derby, sit in the outfield bleachers, where the baseballs come down. For the game itself, sit in the lower infield between the dugouts, where you can see pitches move and follow the stream of substitutions. If you want one seat that works for both, the upper deck behind home plate is the sensible compromise.

The Chicago Cubs' ballpark gets the 2027 game, set for Tuesday, July 13, and the week's events run in Chicago from Friday, July 9, through that Tuesday. The league announced Wrigley as the host on August 1, 2025.

Wrigley Field seat guide for All-Star Week

Outfield bleachers

The best Derby seats if you want a souvenir. The bleachers wrap the outfield and were expanded during the 2014 to 2019 renovation. Bring a glove, plan to stand for most swings and accept a long-distance view of the hitter. For the game, the bleachers are lively but far from the pitcher and catcher.

Lower infield

The best seats for the game. Between the dugouts you see the break on pitches, the defensive positioning and every managerial move, which matters in a game where both benches cycle through dozens of players.

Upper deck behind home plate

A full view of the field for both nights and often the best value in the ballpark. You see where Derby drives land and how the game develops.

The 200 level and its posts

The park dates to 1914, and the upper deck rests on steel columns. Across much of the 200 level, expect the first column near row 6. If a listing says obstructed view, believe it, and check the Wrigley Field Seating Chart page for section-by-section detail.

Both main events are played at night, so sun is a smaller concern than at a Cubs day game, though early innings and Derby warmups can still catch late-day sun.

Buying before the labor deal is settled

One caution before you buy far ahead. The collective bargaining agreement (CBA, the labor agreement that binds the clubs and the players' union) runs out on December 1, 2026. Without a new one, the 2027 schedule, All-Star Game included, is uncertain, so read the refund policy on any early purchase.

No 2027 ticket information had been published by MLB as of fall 2026. Its ticket page promised week details sometime in 2027 and offered a newsletter sign-up. For most fans there is no season-ticket route to the game, so resale, where prices follow demand rather than face value, is a common way in. Reserved Seat orders come with guaranteed entry, useful protection on tickets bought months before the event.

Which All-Star Week events sell first

For 2027, MLB's All-Star page names four pieces: the Home Run Derby, the HBCU Swingman Classic, All-Star Village and an All-Star Sunday built around the Futures Game. Most are ticketed on their own. How demand typically falls:

  • The game and the Derby lead, and plenty of buyers want both. Monday can match Tuesday, since the Derby is pure spectacle.
  • Sunday costs the least effort to get into and still puts you inside Wrigley during the celebration.
  • Rosters move the market. Starters are chosen by fans in a two-round vote across June and the first days of July, and a hometown name among the starters or Derby hitters pushes interest up.
  • Wrigley is small. At 41,649 seats, a national event chases a limited supply.

The side events

  • Futures Game: part of All-Star Week since 1999, where leading American minor leaguers face top prospects born elsewhere.
  • HBCU Swingman Classic: added in 2023 and featuring talent from historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs).
  • MLB Draft: held in the host city during the break since 2021.
  • Co-ed game: a three-on-three game replaced the celebrity softball game (2001 to 2025) in 2026.

Rosters, the swing-off and other modern rules

Each league brings 34 players, the roster size since 2010. Starting position players and the designated hitter come from an online fan vote held in two rounds; players pick the pitchers and reserves, and each league's manager completes the roster with the commissioner's office. Every club gets at least one All-Star. The managers are those of the previous season's pennant winners, and the host club's league bats last, which makes the NL the home side at Wrigley.

  • Tiebreaker: since 2022, a tie after nine innings goes to a home run swing-off, with three hitters a side taking three swings each. It debuted in 2025, when the NL won it 4–3 after a 6–6 tie.
  • Jerseys: players went back to their own team uniforms in 2025 after four years of special All-Star designs.
  • No World Series prize: from 2003 through 2016, the winner's league got home field in the World Series; the rule ended in 2017.

Philadelphia's Citizens Bank Park hosted in 2026, when the AL won 4–0, the first All-Star shutout since 2013, and the Yankees' Cody Bellinger was MVP. Jordan Walker of the St. Louis Cardinals won the Derby there the night before.

Wrigleyville logistics: trains, bags and hotels

Wrigley Field sits in the Wrigleyville part of Lakeview on Chicago's North Side. The CTA Red Line's Addison stop is steps from the gates, and neighborhood parking is scarce even on an ordinary game day, so take the train or have a rideshare drop you a few blocks out.

  • Get there early on Derby night; batting practice and ceremonies fill the park well before the first swing.
  • Check the bag rules, which change from season to season, on the Cubs ballpark page before you go.
  • Book a room early. Rooms near the ballpark and downtown go fast, and the Red Line connects the Loop to Addison directly.

Wrigley's All-Star past and the game's roots

The 2027 game will be Wrigley's fourth: the Cubs also hosted in 1947, 1962, when it staged the second of two games that summer, and 1990. It is Chicago's eighth All-Star Game, and the first since 2003, when the game went to the South Side home of the White Sox, known at the time as U.S. Cellular Field.

The game itself started in Chicago. Chicago Tribune sports editor Arch Ward proposed a one-time game for the 1933 World's Fair, played July 6 at Comiskey Park, and it was popular enough to become annual. From 1959 to 1962 MLB staged two games a year to raise money for the players' pension fund. Cincinnati fans stuffed the 1957 ballot with seven Reds starters, and fan voting was suspended until 1970. No game was played in 1945, because of wartime travel limits, or in 2020, because of the pandemic. The 2002 game in Milwaukee ended in a 7–7 tie after 11 innings when both sides ran out of pitchers, prompting the rule that tied World Series home-field advantage to the result.

The game typically falls on the second or third Tuesday of July, and the league schedules no regular-season games from the day before through two days after, except a single Thursday game since 2018. Fans planning a full baseball year often pair it with MLB Opening Day in the spring.

Frequently asked questions

Which Wrigley Field seats are best for the Home Run Derby?

The outfield bleachers, where most home runs land. For a view of the hitters, sit behind home plate instead.

Do I need separate tickets for the Derby and the game?

Usually yes. The Derby is a Monday night event with its own ticket, separate from Tuesday's game.

Could the 2027 All-Star Game be affected by labor talks?

Yes. The current collective bargaining agreement expires December 1, 2026, and the 2027 season depends on a new deal, so check refund terms on early purchases.

Are there obstructed seats at Wrigley Field?

Yes. Columns hold up the upper deck, and a first column near row 6 is common in the 200 level. Listings marked obstructed view usually mean it.

What happens if the All-Star Game is tied?

A home run swing-off decides it, a rule in place since 2022. Three hitters per league take part, and the NL won the first one in 2025.

Who was MVP of the 2026 All-Star Game?

Cody Bellinger of the New York Yankees took the award on July 14, 2026, in a 4–0 AL shutout in Philadelphia.
