Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.
Choosing a Padres seat in the East Village
For most San Diego Padres games, the best balance of view and value at Petco Park is the Toyota Terrace, the 200-level tier. It gives you a raised, centered look at the field, and every seat on the level can order food brought to it, so you spend less time in lines. For the closest seats, the Dugout Seats in sections 109 to 113 sit between the dugouts and also come with in-seat delivery.
For a day game, side matters too. The batter faces due north, so the afternoon sun comes over the third base side and lands on the first base side and right field. If shade is the priority, lean toward third base or behind home plate.
- Best balance: Toyota Terrace infield.
- Closest: Dugout Seats, sections 109 to 113.
- Best city and bay view: Upper Level behind home plate.
- Most relaxed, lowest outlay: the Gallagher Square berm beyond the outfield.
Field, Toyota Terrace and Upper Level at Petco
Wikipedia lists capacity at 39,860 as of 2024. Restaurants and offices were kept outside the seating bowl, which leaves the concourses open to views of the game on one side and downtown on the other.
Field Level (100s)
The lower bowl. Ballparks of Baseball puts the Padres in the first base dugout, which is a single source, so confirm on the seat map before you pay for a spot behind the home bench. Seats between the two benches cost the most on this level. The back rows sit under the Terrace overhang: good for shade, bad for tracking high fly balls. To compensate, the club mounted small scoreboards and TVs beneath the overhang.
Toyota Terrace (200s)
The middle tier, with in-seat delivery throughout and ribbon boards along the baselines. For many buyers it is the right compromise between proximity and price.
Upper Level (300s)
The top tier. Sit behind home plate and you get San Diego Bay and the downtown skyline past left field and Balboa Park beyond center. That view is the reason to buy up here.
Western Metal, Gallagher Square and the oddball seats
The Western Metal Supply Co. building
Built in 1909 and saved when the park went up, this warehouse now contains suites, a restaurant and seats on its roof. One corner of the building serves as the foul pole in left. That makes for a memorable spot, but the angle is sharp: you look across the field rather than toward home plate.
Gallagher Square
Fans also call it the Park at the Park: a sloping lawn past the outfield that you can use while the game is on. It is the most casual and lowest-cost way in, and it suits families with small children who will not sit still for nine innings. The trade-off is distance: home plate is a long way off.
Outfield sections
These sit near the bullpens and draw a social crowd, yet they are the longest look at the infield. Good for a social night, less good for following pitch counts.
Which way the San Diego sun falls
Petco Park's orientation, with the batter facing north, puts the low afternoon and evening sun in the west, over the third base side. In practice:
- Day games: the first base side and right field face the sun. The third base side, the seats behind the plate and the back rows of the Field Level under the overhang are the shady choices.
- Night games: sun affects only the opening innings. Bayside air cools off after sunset, so pack a sweatshirt even in summer.
- Check the team's map: the club's own sun and shade seating chart labels each section as sunny, shaded or partly shaded, and it beats any rule of thumb for a specific seat.
Dodgers dates, summer weekends and convention weeks
Spring training takes place in February and March at the Peoria Sports Complex in Arizona. The 162-game regular season, with 81 games at Petco Park, runs from late March or early April through late September, broken by the mid-July All-Star break. Under the balanced schedule in use since 2023, San Diego plays each NL West rival 13 times.
- Los Angeles Dodgers. The toughest regular-season ticket, with both fan bases in the stands. The ballpark's baseball attendance record, 47,773, came against Los Angeles.
- Opening Day and June through August weekends, when downtown tourism peaks.
- Military appreciation dates. The club has held these since 1996 and wears camouflage uniforms on Sundays and military holidays.
- Seattle Mariners series. Since 2025 the two clubs have played for an informal "Vedder Cup."
- Big events at the San Diego Convention Center next door, which can squeeze parking and hotel rooms.
April, May and September weeknights usually offer the widest choice.
Trolley at 12th and Imperial, lots and entry rules
Petco Park is at 100 Park Boulevard, though its official address is 19 Tony Gwynn Way. Walk out of the 12th and Imperial Transit Center and you are facing the main gate behind home plate.
- Rail: the San Diego Trolley serves 12th and Imperial, and Amtrak and Coaster trains arrive at the Santa Fe Depot, roughly a mile off.
- Parking: the team's contracted lots (Padres Parkade, the Lexus Premier Lot and Tailgate Park) take cards only.
- Tailgating: permitted on a limited basis at Tailgate Park, in spaces assigned by the parking operator.
- Shuttle: complimentary buses loop from the Parkade, Tailgate Park and the MTS Garage to the gates, beginning two hours ahead of first pitch.
Pregame food and drinks are a short walk away in the Gaslamp Quarter. See the Padres transportation page for current options.
As of the 2026 season, the Padres entry policies allow a clear plastic single-compartment bag up to 12 by 6 by 12 inches, a clutch up to 5 by 7 inches, and infant or medical bags; backpacks and other bags are refused. Individual outside food is fine if it is wrapped or in a container, as is factory-sealed, still, unflavored water of one liter or less and soft-sided juice or milk containers. Alcohol must stay outside. The doors open 90 minutes ahead of the first pitch, and a child shorter than 36 inches gets in free with an adult. Reserved Seat orders include free shipping.
Gwynn, Hoffman and two pennants
San Diego joined the National League as an expansion club in 1969 and has always played in the NL West. Its two pennants each ended in a World Series loss: to the Detroit Tigers in 1984 and in a sweep by the New York Yankees in 1998. The Padres and the Milwaukee Brewers share the distinction of being the oldest MLB franchises without a title, which is why every deep October run in San Diego feels heavy.
- Division titles: 1984, 1996, 1998, 2005 and 2006.
- Tony Gwynn: eight batting titles, widely regarded as the greatest Padre. A statue of him went up at the ballpark in 2007.
- Trevor Hoffman: the Hall of Fame closer, with 601 saves. His statue, unveiled in 2018 on K Street behind the bullpen, faces Gwynn's.
- Numbers no Padre will wear again: Hoffman's 51, Gwynn's 19, Randy Jones's 35, Dave Winfield's 31 and Steve Garvey's 6, along with 42 for Jackie Robinson.
Before 2004, home was San Diego Stadium, renamed Jack Murphy Stadium and later Qualcomm Stadium. Petco Park opened on April 8, 2004, with a 4–3, 10-inning win over the San Francisco Giants. It hosted the final of the first World Baseball Classic in 2006 and the All-Star Game in 2016.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best value section at Petco Park?
The Toyota Terrace infield, the 200 level. It offers a raised, centered view, and the Padres provide in-seat food delivery throughout the level.
Can you sit in the Western Metal Supply Co. building?
Yes. The preserved 1909 warehouse holds suites, a restaurant and rooftop seating. One corner of it is the left field foul pole, so you watch from a steep angle.
Is Gallagher Square good for kids?
It is the most relaxed option at Petco Park: a grassy berm beyond the outfield, open during games and low in cost, though far from home plate.
Which side of Petco Park gets afternoon sun?
Right field and the first base line. With the batter facing north, the low western sun crosses over third base. The team posts a sun and shade chart for exact sections.
Can I bring outside food into a Padres game?
As of 2026, yes, if it is for one person and wrapped or in a container. Factory-sealed still water up to one liter is also allowed; alcohol is not.
Have the Padres ever won the World Series?
No. They won pennants in 1984 and 1998 and lost the World Series both years, to Detroit and then the Yankees.
