Upcoming Arizona Diamondbacks dates
Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.
Check the roof, then choose the seat
Your first question at Chase Field is whether the retractable roof will be open. When it is closed, the building is air-conditioned and you can pick purely on view and budget: infield seats in the 100 level for closeness, or the 300 level behind the plate for the best centered view at the lowest cost. On the rare afternoon with the panels pulled back, shade outranks everything else.
Arizona publishes a roof decision for every game online, and you can also call the club's Roof Hotline, 602-462-6262. Because the panels need only around 4.5 minutes to move, plans can change late; look again the morning of the game.
Home games run from the season opener around the end of March to the final weekend of September, and October dates appear only if the club makes the playoffs.
Field, mezzanine and upper deck at Chase Field
First pitch at the ballpark came on March 31, 1998. Capacity was listed at 48,330 in 2023, trimmed from a peak of just over 49,000 earlier in its life. The bowl stacks three tiers.
- 100 level (field level): the closest seats. From the stretch between the dugouts, you can watch a slider break, follow the catcher's setup and see every play on the bases.
- 200 level (mezzanine): a middle tier with a raised angle on the infield.
- 300 level (upper deck): high but centered, with a view of every defensive alignment and the scoreboard.
The playing surface has been artificial turf since 2019. Field dimensions are 330 feet to left, 407 to center and 334 to right.
Best D-backs seats by what you want
To watch the pitcher-batter duel
Sit in the 100 level between the dugouts. Avoid the very first rows directly behind either dugout if you care about the plate: anyone leaning on the dugout railing can cut off your line to home plate. Seating guides describe the dugout sides differently, so confirm which side is home using the map on your listing before you pay extra to sit behind it.
For families and fun
The ballpark's trademark is the pool beyond the right-center wall, a rentable party space with room for roughly 35 people. Outfield seats near it and in the bleachers cost less than the infield and suit fans who value atmosphere over strategy. The catch: from deep in the outfield, judging a ball hit toward the foul lines is tough.
For the best view per dollar
Upper-deck seats between the bases and behind the catcher put the entire diamond in front of you for less than any other centered seat. Fans who keep score should look here first.
Open-roof afternoons: where shade falls
Phoenix summers would be brutal without the movable roof and the building's chilled-water air conditioning. In 1998 the ballpark became the first in the country to put a retractable roof over real grass, though the field switched to turf in 2019. For the occasional open-roof day game, choose carefully:
- Most reliable shade: according to ShadedSeats, the upper-deck runs of 314–318 and 328–332 are protected by the roof framework overhead.
- Third base side: shadows creep across these seats as the innings pass.
- First base side: sunlight lingers here, so the low rows are a poor pick for an open-roof matinee.
- Home plate and the far left-field corner: roof-connected structures block the sun above them.
At night or with the roof shut, the sun is irrelevant.
Series that fill the building
Every MLB club plays 162 games, 81 at home. Spring training happens in Scottsdale at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick. The summer schedule breaks for the All-Star Game in the middle of July, and a 12-team playoff bracket can carry baseball into the first days of November.
A balanced format in place since 2023 guarantees that all 30 clubs see each other, with 13 games apiece against division foes, so marquee American League teams cycle through Phoenix.
- Los Angeles and Colorado: the Dodgers and Rockies visit more than anyone, and Dodgers weekends are usually the hottest seats.
- New York: when the Yankees come to town, the 2001 memories add buyers.
- Calendar peaks: the home opener and the holiday weekends at the end of May and around July 4 beat a normal Tuesday.
- Day of the week: Fridays and Saturdays sell best; Monday through Wednesday is where you find the most choice.
- October: playoff demand rises sharply.
On the resale market, three things move prices most: who is visiting, which night it is and, late in the year, the playoff race. If you are visiting in March, a Cactus League game in Scottsdale makes a good warm-up before an early-season series downtown.
Light rail, garages and gate rules
You will find the ballpark at 401 East Jefferson Street. Two Valley Metro Rail stations, 3rd Street/Jefferson and 3rd Street/Washington, are steps away; the light rail connects Phoenix with Tempe and Mesa, and the club says a train comes along every 15 to 20 minutes all year. Garages and surface lots ring the ballpark; buy parking ahead if you drive and allow time for the walk.
This is a downtown park, not a stadium in a sea of parking, so pregame usually means a nearby restaurant or bar instead of a tailgate. Dinner in Tempe followed by a train ride to the game is an easy plan.
House rules published for 2026 are summarized here; confirm them in the D-backs ballpark guide:
- Bags: a single transparent bag (plastic, vinyl or PVC) no bigger than 12 by 6 by 12 inches, or a clutch no bigger than 4.5 by 6.5 inches.
- Food and drink: you may carry in food inside a see-through plastic bag, plus unopened plastic bottles of unflavored water or empty plastic bottles.
- Re-entry: allowed through four gates (A, F, J and K) if you scan out on the way and in on the way back.
Reserved Seat includes a 100% guarantee with every order.
Expansion club, quick champion
MLB awarded the franchise on March 9, 1995, and the D-backs began play in 1998 in the National League West, where they have stayed. Year four brought the 2001 World Series: a seven-game upset of a Yankees team that had won three titles in a row, capped by Luis Gonzalez's Game 7 hit. No expansion club in MLB history has won a championship faster. The second pennant arrived in 2023, when Arizona outlasted the Phillies in a seventh game.
- Division crowns: five NL West titles, the last in 2011.
- Aces: Randy Johnson took the Cy Young Award four years running (1999 through 2002), with Curt Schilling beside him in the rotation for 2000–2003.
- Retired numbers: Gonzalez's 20, Johnson's 51 and the league-wide 42 for Jackie Robinson.
- Rivals: Los Angeles and Colorado in the division.
The building opened as Bank One Ballpark; the Chase Field name went up in 2005 after JPMorgan Chase bought Bank One. Beyond the 2001 Fall Classic, it staged the 2011 All-Star Game and more World Series games in 2023. A state law signed in September 2025, House Bill 2704, lets sales tax money fund renovations. Schedules are at mlb.com/dbacks.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find out if the Chase Field roof will be open?
Arizona posts a roof decision online for every game, and the Roof Hotline at 602-462-6262 has the same information. Check on the day itself, since the panels can move in a few minutes.
Which Chase Field seats stay shaded with the roof open?
ShadedSeats lists upper-deck sections 314–318 and 328–332 as covered by the roof framework. Seats along third base pick up shade as the afternoon goes on; first base seats bake longer.
What is the swimming pool at Chase Field?
A rental area in right-center field that holds about 35 guests. It is the ballpark's best-known feature.
Can I leave Chase Field and come back in?
Yes, as of 2026, through Gates A, F, J or K. Scan your ticket when you leave and again when you return.
Which D-backs games are easiest to buy?
Monday through Wednesday games against teams without big traveling followings. Dodgers series, weekends, Opening Day and holiday dates draw the most demand.
When did the Diamondbacks win the World Series?
In 2001, just their fourth season, with a Game 7 win over the Yankees. Arizona added a second NL pennant in 2023.
