Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.
The Busch Stadium seat to buy for a Cardinals game
For most St. Louis Cardinals games, aim for a lower-bowl infield seat about halfway up the section. That height clears the netting and dugout roofs while staying close to the plate. To spend less for a similar distance, look across at the visiting team's side along third base, which often runs cheaper than the first base side, where the Cardinals sit and home-crowd demand runs highest.
If you want the Gateway Arch and the downtown skyline in the frame, the upper deck (the terrace) from first base around to third is where value and view meet. And for a July or August day game, buy a row near the top of a section, where the next deck up blocks the sun, or switch to a night game.
- Best all-around: field level infield, middle rows.
- Best value close in: third base side.
- Best view of the Arch: terrace infield.
- Best for home run balls: left or right field bleachers.
How Busch Stadium is stacked
The current park opened to MLB play on April 10, 2006, taking over from Busch Memorial Stadium (1966 to 2005). Wikipedia puts capacity at 44,383, well above the 37,962 of its first season. The field is natural grass.
- Field level: about 16,900 seats in the lower bowl, foul pole to foul pole.
- Middle tiers: clubs, suites and other mid-level seating fill the space below the terrace.
- Terrace level: about 9,150 seats in the upper deck, with the widest view of the Arch and skyline.
- Bleachers: roughly 3,660 seats, half in left and half in right.
Beyond center field sits Ballpark Village, built on the old stadium's site and opened in 2014. It has places to eat, the team's Hall of Fame Museum and rooftop seating some 500 feet from the plate. The Cardinals ballpark guide has more on the layout, as does the Busch Stadium page here.
Beating the St. Louis heat
Midsummer in St. Louis brings heavy heat and humidity, which makes a July or August afternoon game hard work. The fix is simple: sit under something.
- Most reliable shade: the upper rows of any level, where the deck overhead blocks the sun.
- Fully exposed: the bleachers and the lowest rows of the lower bowl.
- The alternative: a night game, which avoids the worst of the sun entirely.
If your only option is an afternoon game in midsummer, pay a little more for the overhang. You will watch more of the game and spend less time in the concourse looking for relief.
Corners, front rows and bleachers: the trade-offs
- The very front rows behind the dugouts trade height for closeness. Netting and the dugout roofs end up in your line of sight, so a few rows back is often the better seat.
- Outfield corners right beside the poles point away from the infield. Move a few sections toward center for a straighter look.
- The bleachers are loud and good for home run balls, but you lose depth on plays near the plate.
- The terrace level is far from the field, but it shows the whole play developing, which many fans prefer to being close.
Opening Day, Cubs weekends and the I-70 Series
Camp opens in February at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Florida, and runs through March. Then the 162-game schedule takes over from late March or early April until late September, with October reserved for playoff clubs.
- Opening Day is treated as a civic event and is usually the hardest regular-season ticket.
- The Cubs, above all on a summer weekend, when Chicago fans drive down Interstate 55 in force.
- Kansas City Royals visits, known as the I-70 Series, which pull in fans from all over Missouri.
- Holiday dates like Memorial Day weekend and July 4, which add family crowds, fireworks or promotions.
- Giveaway nights, bobbleheads in particular, which outsell an identical matchup on a plain weeknight.
The widest selection is on April, May and September weeknights against teams outside the division, and resale listings for those games often drop as first pitch gets closer.
The fan base also travels. Cardinals red is common at Wrigley Field, and Kansas City's Kauffman Stadium, Milwaukee and Cincinnati are all manageable drives. Spring training in Jupiter draws winter visitors each March for a closer look in a smaller park.
MetroLink, garages and the 10-by-8-by-10 bag rule
The ballpark's address is 700 Clark Avenue. Light rail is the easy way in: MetroLink's Red and Blue lines both serve Stadium station, right beside the park on 8th Street. As of 2026, the team notes that trains usually keep running until around midnight, which covers most night games.
If you drive, the club sells spaces in places like the All-Star Lot and the One Cardinal Way Garage, and as of 2026 the pass arrives in the MLB Ballpark app. Privately run garages are scattered across nearby blocks too.
As of the 2026 season:
- Bags: purses, bags and soft coolers are fine if they measure 10 by 8 by 10 inches or less.
- Gates: open an hour and a half early Monday to Thursday and two hours early Friday to Sunday.
- Payment: cashless throughout the stadium.
Confirm the rules before you go, since they can change. Ballpark Village is the main pregame meeting place, and a lot of groups meet up by Stan Musial's statue at Gate 3, next to an entrance designed to recall the Eads Bridge. Reserved Seat orders come with guaranteed entry.
Eleven titles from Hornsby to Pujols
Born in 1882 in the American Association as the Brown Stockings, the club moved to the National League in 1892 and adopted the Cardinals name in 1900, a choice reportedly inspired by fans who admired the red on the uniforms. Its 11 championships top every other NL team, and its 19 pennants rank third in baseball history.
- 1926: the first title.
- 1931 through 1946: five more titles (1931, 1934, 1942, 1944, 1946) with Dizzy Dean and then Stan Musial.
- 1964 and 1967: Bob Gibson and Lou Brock teams; 1982: the Ozzie Smith era.
- 2006: a five-game World Series win in the new ballpark's first season.
- 2009: the All-Star Game came to Busch Stadium.
- 2011: a September charge and repeated October comebacks ended with an 11th crown.
- 2022: Albert Pujols reached 700 career homers wearing a Cardinals uniform.
Rogers Hornsby, Dean, Musial, Gibson, Brock and Smith are among the club's Hall of Famers. The two rivalries that matter most are the Cubs, a National League foe for more than a century, and the Royals across the state.
Frequently asked questions
Is the third base side cheaper at Busch Stadium?
Often, yes. The Cardinals use the first base dugout, so home-crowd demand is highest there, and seats behind the visitors' dugout on the third base side can cost less for a similar view.
Where are the shaded seats at Busch Stadium?
The top rows of each level, where the deck above blocks the sun. The bleachers and the lowest lower-bowl rows get no cover.
Which seats have the best view of the Gateway Arch?
Infield and home plate seats, best of all up on the terrace, since the Arch rises past the outfield wall.
Does MetroLink run late enough after a Cardinals night game?
Usually. As of 2026, the team says trains generally run until around midnight from Stadium station, right next to the park.
How big a bag can I bring to Busch Stadium?
As of 2026, the limit for bags, purses and soft coolers is 10 by 8 by 10 inches. Check the team's current guide before you go.
What is Ballpark Village?
An entertainment district past center field, built in 2014 where the old stadium stood. It has restaurants, the team museum and rooftop seats roughly 500 feet from the plate.
