U.S. Open Golf Tickets

Grounds pass, no seat · watch at the greens · Pebble Beach in 2027

The hardest setup in golf rewards spectators who park at the greens. Pick your day, pick your hole, then pick the year's host course.

Upcoming U.S. Open Golf Championship dates

Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.

Best viewing plan at a U.S. Open

A U.S. Open ticket gets you onto the grounds for one day, with no assigned seat, so your viewing spot is the decision that matters. The best plan for most fans is to settle at a green, ideally a par 3 or a hard finishing hole with a grandstand or a slope to sit on. U.S. Open courses are set up to punish: narrow fairways, heavy rough and fast greens. That puts the drama at the putting surfaces, where chips, recoveries and short putts decide scores and winning totals near even par are normal.

The championship is run by the USGA each June and is scheduled to end on Father's Day, the third Sunday of the month. It is the third of the year's four men's majors, and unlike The Masters it changes courses every year; the 2027 edition goes to Pebble Beach Golf Links in California.

Three ways to spend the day

Hold a green

Every group comes through. You get the most shots per hour and somewhere to sit. Grandstands are generally first-come, first-served, so claim a spot early on weekend afternoons, especially near the 18th.

Walk with one pairing

Following one group for 18 holes shows you how a round unfolds. The cost: galleries around star players are several people deep, so you will see less of each swing.

Open at the range

In the morning, the practice range and putting green give close looks at players warming up, often with lighter crowds than out on the course. It is a good first hour before you move to a green.

Practice rounds to the Father's Day finish

  • Practice rounds early in the week are the most open and least crowded days.
  • Thursday and Friday put all 156 players on the course before the cut after round two, so you see the most golf.
  • Saturday brings the contenders into focus and heavier crowds.
  • Sunday is the Father's Day finale and usually the hardest ticket of the week.

The 2026 championship ran June 18 to 21. If the Father's Day pattern holds, the 2027 final round at Pebble Beach lands on Sunday, June 20; confirm with the USGA before booking travel.

Grounds admission, grandstands and resale

Standard tickets are grounds admission for a set day. Hospitality packages with private viewing areas are a separate, higher tier. The USGA sells through the championship's own site well before the event; after its allocation runs out, resale (tickets offered by the original buyers) is where the remaining days turn up.

What moves demand:

  • The day: weekend demand runs highest, Sunday most of all.
  • The course: a famous public layout like Pebble Beach, or a private club rarely open to outsiders, draws more buyers than a frequent host.

Reserved Seat orders carry a 100% guarantee. The USGA sets bag, phone and camera rules each year; read the current spectator guide at usopen.com.

The host rotation through 2031

Fifty-two courses have hosted. The USGA names sites years in advance:

  • 2024: Pinehurst Resort, Course No. 2, North Carolina.
  • 2025: Oakmont Country Club, Pennsylvania, playing as a par 70 at 7,372 yards.
  • 2026: Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, Southampton, New York.
  • 2027: Pebble Beach Golf Links, California.
  • 2028: Winged Foot Golf Club, West Course, Mamaroneck, New York.
  • 2029: Pinehurst No. 2 again.
  • 2030: Merion Golf Club, East Course, Ardmore, Pennsylvania.
  • 2031: Riviera Country Club, Los Angeles.

Oakmont leads all venues with ten U.S. Opens through 2025, and it, Pebble Beach and Pinehurst all return several more times before the 2040s.

On-course comfort and etiquette

Plan on several miles of walking over uneven and often hilly ground, possibly in June heat, with little shade at coastal and links-style courses. Good shoes and sun protection matter most. Most hosts cannot park a championship crowd on site, so the USGA usually posts parking and shuttle details in the weeks before. On the course, go silent and still when a player addresses the ball, mute your phone, and cross fairways only where marshals open a path.

Champions and milestones since 1895

Horace Rawlins won the first U.S. Open on October 4, 1895, over nine holes at Newport Country Club in Rhode Island, in a field of 11. The 72-hole format dates to 1898. British pros won until John J. McDermott became the first American-born champion in 1911. Willie Anderson, Bobby Jones, Ben Hogan and Jack Nicklaus share the record of four wins, and Tiger Woods won by 15 strokes at Pebble Beach in 2000, still the biggest margin in a major.

Bryson DeChambeau won at Pinehurst in 2024 and J.J. Spaun at Oakmont in 2025. In 2026, Wyndham Clark led wire to wire at Shinnecock Hills and beat Sam Burns by a stroke for his second title, after 2023. A tie after 72 holes now goes to a two-hole aggregate playoff, in place since 2018, which had not been used through 2026.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the best place to watch at the U.S. Open?

Around the greens, especially at a par 3 or a hard finishing hole with a grandstand. The difficult course setup makes chips and putts the decisive shots.

Are U.S. Open grandstands reserved?

Generally not. Grandstands at selected holes are first-come, first-served for ticket holders, while hospitality packages add private viewing areas.

What date is the 2027 U.S. Open final round?

If the Father's Day pattern holds, Sunday, June 20, 2027, at Pebble Beach. Confirm the dates with the USGA before booking.

Which courses host the U.S. Open after 2027?

Winged Foot in 2028, Pinehurst No. 2 in 2029, Merion in 2030 and Riviera in 2031.

Has the U.S. Open used its two-hole playoff yet?

Not through 2026. The two-hole aggregate playoff replaced the 18-hole Monday playoff in 2018.
