Duke's Mayo Bowl Tickets

Sat., Dec. 26, 2026 · 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC · west side for shade

A 3:30 kickoff in late December makes sun the first seat question in Charlotte. Pick your side, then stay for the coach's mayonnaise shower.

West for shade, east for warmth: the Charlotte seat choice

At the Duke's Mayo Bowl, the side of the field matters more than the yard line. With a 3:30 p.m. kickoff in late December, the low sun hangs in the southwest during the first half. Fans on the west side face away from it and spend most of the afternoon in shadow, the right call on a clear or mild day. Across the field, the east side (upper sections 515 through 530 included) catches full sun until it drops, around halftime, so it is the warmer seat on a cold day. Pack sunglasses if you choose it.

This year's game kicks off December 26, 2026, a Saturday, at 3:30 Eastern in uptown Charlotte, North Carolina, with ABC televising a meeting of an ACC school and a Big Ten school.

Rows and tiers at Bank of America Stadium

Built in 1996 for the Carolina Panthers, the stadium sits at 800 South Mint Street, holds roughly 75,000 for football and rises in three tiers: a lower bowl numbered in the 100s, a middle ring numbered in the 300s that contains the club seats, and an upper deck numbered in the 500s. Recent bowl crowds have ranged from about 29,000 to about 46,000, so the stadium is rarely full.

  • Lower bowl. A shallow tier of roughly 19 rows, open to the sky. Target the back half, rows 10 through 19, inside the 20s. Down front your eyes are level with the benches, and the sideline crowd hides the near hash marks.
  • 300 level. From a sideline seat in this ring you get height without losing much closeness, and the clubs give you somewhere warm after sunset.
  • 500 level. A steep climb of roughly 34 rows. The bottom rows on the sideline see everything well; the last rows feel remote.
  • End zones. The easiest tickets to find. A few are tucked under or right beside the big video boards at each end.

How the ACC rotation picks the opponent

Leagues hold the slots through tie-ins (agreements that guarantee a conference a place in a bowl). One spot has gone to the ACC every season since 2020. The second alternates: Big Ten teams in even years, SEC teams in odd years. That makes 2026 a Big Ten year. Agreements can be revised, so wait for the early-December announcement before you plan around a specific school.

Charlotte Sports Foundation, a nonprofit, has managed the game since 2010.

Which ACC schools fill the stands

The ACC team largely decides the crowd. When the ACC pick is a short drive away (think Clemson, Duke, NC State, North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech or Wake Forest), crowds swell; North Carolina versus South Carolina in 2021 topped 45,000. Two far-off schools draw much less, as the crowd of about 29,000 for the January 2026 game showed.

  • Early December is when prices reset, because that is when fan bases find out their destination.
  • West-side lower sideline seats go first, because they offer both shade and closeness.
  • December 26 lands in the middle of holiday travel. For some fan bases that helps attendance; for others it hurts.

Mayonnaise, marching bands and FanFest

The winning coach gets doused, not with a sports drink, but with a huge tub of Duke's Mayonnaise, a ritual that started in 2020. It is what this bowl is known for, so many people stick around after the final whistle to watch it happen.

The foundation also builds a weekend of events around the game. Ahead of the January 2026 edition, bands performed at Truist Plaza on the eve of the game during an event called Fan Central, and on game day a FanFest set up on Mint and Graham Streets beside the stadium, with music, food vendors and games. A similar setup is likely in 2026; confirm times on the foundation's site.

LYNX light rail, gates and the clear-bag rule

Few bowl venues are this easy without a car. Brooklyn Village station on the LYNX Blue Line, previously named Stonewall, is a few minutes on foot from the gates, and CATS buses plus the CityLYNX streetcar cover uptown too. Drivers will find more than 30,000 spaces within five blocks, according to the foundation, with advance reservations through SpotHero. Accessible spaces for the January 2026 game were in Lot 1 (the Mint Street facility) on a first-come basis.

  • Entrances: Graham Street (North Gate), Mint Street (East Gate) and Morehead Street (South Gate).
  • Tickets: last edition, only phone tickets in the foundation's app scanned at the gate, and PDFs were refused. If someone sends you tickets, accept the transfer before leaving home.
  • Tailgating: fine in open-air lots under flame-distance rules, never inside the decks.
  • Bags: at the January 2026 game, a see-through bag of plastic, vinyl or PVC no bigger than 12 by 6 by 12 inches, or a clear gallon freezer bag, plus a clutch near 4.5 by 6.5 inches. Coolers, umbrellas and outside alcohol stayed out.

A multiyear stadium renovation runs through 2030, and the work fans will notice begins in 2027. Review the foundation's game-day page for current rules.

Continental Tire, Meineke, Belk, then mayonnaise

It started as the Continental Tire Bowl on December 28, 2002, when 73,535 watched Virginia defeat West Virginia by 26 points. According to the foundation, no first-year bowl is thought to have sold out faster. The attendance record, 73,712, came in 2008.

  • 2002–2004: Continental Tire Bowl.
  • 2005–2010: Meineke Car Care Bowl.
  • 2011–2019: Belk Bowl.
  • 2020 onward: Duke's Mayo Bowl.

The ACC's early opponents came from the Big East; the SEC took over that role for 2014–2019; and the alternating Big Ten and SEC setup began in 2020.

Results since the mayo era began

  • 2020: Wisconsin beat Wake Forest by 14, 42–28.
  • 2021: South Carolina topped North Carolina, 38–21.
  • 2022: Maryland held off NC State, 16–12.
  • 2023: West Virginia beat North Carolina, 30–10.
  • January 3, 2025: Minnesota defeated Virginia Tech, 24–10.
  • January 2, 2026: Wake Forest outscored Mississippi State, 43–29.

After two early-January editions, the 2026 game returns to December 26.
