Upcoming Pinstripe Bowl dates

Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.

Go up a level: the Pinstripe Bowl seat rule

At the Pinstripe Bowl, a sideline seat on the Main (200) or Terrace (300) level beats almost anything on the field level. Yankee Stadium was built for baseball, and when a gridiron is laid across the infield and outfield grass, the low rows end up flat to the field and, in places, angled toward an end zone or set well back from the sideline. A little height fixes both problems.

The 16th Pinstripe Bowl is set for Saturday, December 26, 2026, at noon Eastern, televised on ABC with an ESPN Radio call. Officially it is the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl, named for the New York Yankees' pinstriped uniforms, and it matches a Big Ten team against an ACC team.

Yankee Stadium's four decks, with a gridiron inside

The current Yankee Stadium opened in 2009 and seats about 46,500 for baseball. Football setups can hold more: Notre Dame and Army drew 54,251 there in November 2010.

  • Field level (100s): nearest the turf, including the Legends seats closest to the infield. Close, but low and flat for football.
  • Main level (200s): rises over and partly overhangs the field level. Back rows here are covered.
  • Terrace level (300s): the next tier, mostly open to the sky, with a clean look down at the whole field.
  • Grandstand (400s): the upper deck. Its back rows sit beneath the stadium's cantilevered roof.

Because the stands follow the shape of a ballfield, they do not wrap the gridiron evenly. Some sections face the field squarely; others look across it from an odd angle.

Baseball-premium seats that disappoint for football

  • Low rows behind home plate. Excellent for a pitch, but for football they can face an end zone or sit far from the near sideline.
  • The first rows of the field level. The crowd and team personnel along the near sideline block the far side of the field, and the flat angle makes depth hard to judge.
  • Outfield-area sections. Usually the last to sell, and for good reason: they are the most remote from the action in most football layouts.

The single most useful habit is to read the football seating map attached to the listing, not a baseball chart from memory. Section numbers do not translate directly from one sport to the other.

Winter sun, wind and covered rows in the Bronx

A noon kickoff in late December puts a low winter sun in the southern sky. The open fronts of the Terrace and Grandstand catch all of it, which can be welcome warmth or a source of glare. Covered back rows on the Main level and in the Grandstand stay out of sun and rain but feel noticeably colder.

Either way, plan for a cold, often windy afternoon. Layers, a warm hat and gloves will matter more to how much you enjoy the game than a few rows of difference. Get there early, too: security lines back up on cold days, and once you are inside, the Great Hall, the big interior concourse behind home plate, is a place to wait out the wind.

Selection Sunday and Pinstripe Bowl crowd swings

The 2026 game is the 12th straight to pair the Big Ten and the ACC. Conference tie-ins (contracts that reserve a bowl's slots for certain leagues) decide that, and they can change in future cycles. Teams are named on Selection Sunday, December 6; as of early fall 2026, the bowl had not announced when tickets go on sale.

That pairing keeps a long list of schools within a drive or train ride of New York, including Rutgers, Penn State, Maryland, Syracuse, Boston College and Pittsburgh, and the specific schools decide the crowd. The record, 49,012, came in 2014 for Penn State and Boston College, and Penn State's return in 2025 drew 41,101. Pairings without a nearby fan base landed near 30,000 in 2021, 2022 and 2024.

  • Expect a reset on December 6. A regional team or one with a big New York alumni base moves the market most.
  • Sideline Main-level seats tend to go first; outfield-area seats often last into game week.
  • Hotels: New York's holiday season keeps rates high, so out-of-town fans should book a room early.

Subway, Metro-North and stadium rules

Leave the car. Parking near the stadium is limited and slow to empty, and transit drops you at the gates.

  • Subway: 161st Street–Yankee Stadium is served by the 4 train at all times and the D train; the B runs only on weekdays. On Saturday, December 26, use the 4 or the D. From Midtown, allow roughly half an hour.
  • Metro-North: the Yankees–East 153rd Street station on the Hudson Line sits beside the stadium and connects to Grand Central; check game-day service, which varies for non-baseball events.
  • Bags: for the 2026 baseball season, the Yankees allow one soft-sided bag up to 16 by 16 by 8 inches plus a smaller soft-sided personal item; hard-sided bags are banned, nothing can be stored on site, and there is no re-entry. Glass, cans and large umbrellas are prohibited.

A bowl can set its own rules, so confirm them on the Pinstripe Bowl site or the Yankees' ballpark policies before game day.

Fifteen Pinstripe Bowls and two sponsors

Syracuse beat Kansas State 36–34 in the first game, on December 30, 2010, before 38,274. The early years matched the Big East and the Big 12, with Notre Dame invited as an independent in 2013; the Big Ten–ACC era started in 2014. The 2020 edition was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. New Era Cap Company held the title sponsorship from 2010 through 2021, and Bad Boy Mowers has held it since 2022.

  • 2014: Penn State outlasted Boston College 31–30 in overtime, the bowl's attendance record.
  • 2015: Duke slipped past Indiana 44–41, also in overtime.
  • 2021: Maryland routed Virginia Tech 54–10.
  • 2023: Rutgers, the nearest thing to a home team, beat Miami 31–24.
  • 2024: Nebraska held off Boston College 20–15.
  • 2025: Penn State beat Clemson 22–10.

Yankee Stadium's other college football dates include Notre Dame against Army in 2010 and the 150th meeting of Lafayette and Lehigh in 2014.

Frequently asked questions
