Upcoming Fiesta Bowl dates
Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.
Fiesta Bowl seating, decided fast
The strongest seats for this season's Fiesta Bowl, a playoff quarterfinal set for Wednesday, December 30, 2026, are on the 100 level at midfield. At State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, one independent seating guide names 108, 109, 129 and 130 as the main-level sections nearest the 50-yard line. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. Eastern (5:30 p.m. in Glendale).
If those sections are more than you want to spend, the same guide points to the upper deck at midfield: 411 to 414 along one sideline, 442 to 445 along the opposite one. Take the front lettered rows there and you see the entire field from above, which many fans prefer for reading a playoff game. End zones come last on most buyers' lists.
State Farm Stadium, level by level
Opened in 2006, the building holds about 63,400 for a football game and can expand to roughly 72,200. Its natural grass field rolls outside between events, and its retractable fabric roof means you sit under cover whether the panels open or not. The roof decision is made on game day, so plan for a climate-controlled room rather than desert sun or a cold evening.
- 100 level: the lower bowl, nearest the field. Best for feeling the speed of the game, strongest at midfield.
- 200 level: club seating, roomier chairs plus indoor lounges. A comfort upgrade with a good mid-height angle.
- Suite level: enclosed suites sitting above the club deck, usually sold as a whole unit.
- 400 level (the Terrace): the upper deck. Its first rows carry letters (the Ring of Honor rows) ahead of the numbered rows, so a lettered seat is a front-of-deck seat.
Seats worth paying for, seats to pass on
Worth it
- Lower-level midfield (108, 109, 129, 130): the closest balanced view. Expect these to draw the most demand once both teams are set.
- Club level near the 50: a little higher, with room to move and lounge access during a long game.
- Front of the Terrace at midfield: the value pick for anyone who wants to see formations and routes develop.
Think twice
- Low end-zone rows: depth is hard to judge from field level at the goal line, and action at the far end is a long way off.
- The wrong sideline: each school gets its own allotment, and its fans gather behind its bench. Sidelines are assigned per game, so if sitting with your own fans matters, wait for the assignment before choosing a side.
Timing your purchase around the playoff bracket
There is no conference partner anymore. From 1971 to 1978 the game took the Western Athletic Conference champion; from 1997 to 2013 it took the Big 12 champion; in 2014 it entered the playoff rotation. In the 12-team bracket, the top four seeds skip the first round and open in a quarterfinal. From 2026, the four power-conference champions earn automatic bids, and so does the top-ranked champion among the remaining leagues (the Group of Six).
- Bracket reveal in early December usually fixes one side of the game: the seeded team sent to Glendale with a bye.
- First-round games are hosted on campus over December 18–19, 2026. The winner of the paired game becomes the opponent, about 11 days before kickoff.
- Buying early locks in your seat but not your matchup. Buying late gives certainty but leaves less time for holiday-week flights to Phoenix.
Roles rotate every three years. Glendale hosted a semifinal in January 2026, hosts a quarterfinal now and is slated to host another quarterfinal on New Year's Day 2028. The bracket format is locked in only through 2026, so later details may change.
Parade, Fan Fest and foundation events
The nonprofit Fiesta Sports Foundation runs the bowl and the Fiesta Bowl Parade. Floats, marching bands and the bowl's representative court have rolled down Central Avenue in Phoenix every year since 1973. Lerner & Rowe presents the parade as of 2026. The foundation sets the date each season, so confirm it before you build travel around it.
Game-day events listed by the foundation include Fan Fest and the Club '71 pregame party, named for the bowl's first season. Its calendar also covers a flag football classic and a kickoff luncheon. The same organization runs the Cactus Bowl, recently branded the Rate Bowl, a different game that needs its own ticket.
From Tempe to Glendale: the Fiesta Bowl record
The first Fiesta Bowl, played December 27, 1971, ended Arizona State 45, Florida State 38, with 51,089 watching at Sun Devil Stadium. Tempe kept the game until 2006; Glendale took over with the January 2007 edition.
- 1987: Penn State held off Miami 14–10 in what amounted to a national title game.
- 2003: Ohio State beat Miami 31–24 after two overtimes, the first national championship ever settled in overtime.
- 2007: Boise State stunned Oklahoma 43–42 in overtime in the first Glendale game, a fixture on lists of the greatest college games.
- Late 2022: TCU outlasted Michigan 51–45 in a playoff semifinal, the most combined points in Fiesta Bowl history.
The bowl also hosted semifinals in 2016, 2019 and January 2026. A 2011 scandal led to the firing of its longtime chief executive, who later admitted guilt on federal counts involving illegal campaign donations. The BCS imposed a fine, and new leadership took over that year.
Name sponsors, in order: Sunkist from 1986 to 1990, IBM from 1993 to 1995, Tostitos from 1996 until January 2014, Vizio for the December 2014 game, BattleFrog for January 2016, PlayStation from December 2016 to 2022, and Vrbo from 2022 on.
Arizona logistics: airport, parking and the clock
- Airport: Phoenix Sky Harbor is about 30 minutes from the stadium by car, according to the venue, depending on traffic.
- Driving: you reach the stadium from Loop 101 on the Valley's west side. Use Glendale Avenue and Cardinals Way for general lots; rideshare drops at a lot south of the building. Bowl parking passes are a separate purchase, so check the foundation's map.
- Before kickoff: the restaurants and bars of the adjacent Westgate Entertainment District fill the pregame hours.
- Time zone: Arizona skips daylight saving time, so in late December it runs two hours behind the East Coast.
- Bags: as of the 2025 season, the rule was clear bags no bigger than 12 by 6 by 12 inches, or a small clutch of 4.5 by 6.5 inches, with all purchases cashless. Rules change, so read the stadium's bag page close to game day.
Since you may buy before the second team is known, it helps that every Reserved Seat order is backed by a 100% guarantee.
Frequently asked questions
Which sections are at midfield for the Fiesta Bowl?
One independent seating guide points to 108, 109, 129 and 130 on the lower level, and 411 to 414 or 442 to 445 in the upper deck.
Should I buy Fiesta Bowl tickets before the matchup is set?
Buying early secures a seat and travel, but one team usually is not known until the first-round game about 11 days before kickoff. Waiting removes that uncertainty while shrinking your travel window.
Will the roof be open at the Fiesta Bowl?
The stadium decides on game day. Seats are covered either way, so weather is not a factor in choosing a section.
What time does the 2026 Fiesta Bowl start in Arizona?
Kickoff on December 30, 2026, is 5:30 p.m. Arizona time, or 7:30 p.m. on the East Coast.
Is the Fiesta Bowl Parade on game day?
The Fiesta Sports Foundation sets the parade date each season, so check its schedule. The parade runs along Central Avenue in Phoenix.
