Upcoming New Orleans Bowl dates

Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.

Plaza level or bust: the New Orleans Bowl seat answer

Buy a plaza-level sideline seat (the 100-level sections nearest the field) between the 20-yard lines, and sit in the middle rows rather than the first few. That is the whole decision for the New Orleans Bowl, which kicks off on Wednesday, December 23, 2026, at 1 p.m. Central inside the Caesars Superdome, with ESPN carrying the 26th edition.

The logic is about crowd size. The Superdome holds roughly 73,200 for football, while recent New Orleans Bowl crowds have landed between about 13,000 and 17,000. The fans, the bands and the noise all gather low. A seat high in the building puts you above thousands of empty chairs, a long way from the only part of the stadium that feels like a game.

How the Superdome's tiers play for a small crowd

The Superdome opened in 1975 and is the largest fixed domed structure in the world, which means rain, cold and sun simply drop out of your seat decision. Capacity is listed at about 73,200 and can be pushed past 76,000.

  • Plaza level (100s): the lower bowl. A 2006–2011 renovation replaced movable field-level stands with a permanent deck that brought these seats closer to the field, so even mid-plaza rows feel near.
  • Loge level: the ring above the plaza. A fair fallback if you want height and a tidy view of formations, though it is quieter.
  • Terrace levels: the high upper deck, with the lower terrace numbered in the 500s. For this bowl, these are the seats to avoid; the atmosphere does not reach them.
  • End zone field boxes: added in the 2019–2024 renovation along with wider concourses. They are close to the turf but look down the length of the field.

Choosing rows and sides in the dome

  • Middle plaza rows on the sideline clear the bench area and still put you near field level. This is the best seat in the building for this game.
  • Front plaza rows look dramatic but can be blocked by players, staff and cameras along the sideline.
  • Your team's side: each school's fans tend to cluster behind its bench and near its band. Once teams are named, the bowl's seating assignments tell you where that is.
  • Low end zone seats make sense if you want to be beside a band or student group, not if you want to follow the whole field.

A practical point: because supply is deep, there is rarely a reason to settle for a terrace seat in order to save on a lower-bowl ticket. The plaza usually has room.

What pushes the price of a New Orleans Bowl ticket

The Sun Belt has been part of this game since 2001, and the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation runs it with the conference. For 2026 the opponent comes from Conference USA. The other slot has shifted over time, with the Mountain West in 2001, 2011 and 2014 and the MAC in 2010, and tie-ins (the deals that send conference teams to a bowl) are renewed in cycles, so read the pairing as current, not permanent. Teams are named after championship weekend in early December.

Geography moves demand more than anything. The bowl's biggest crowd, 54,728 in 2013, came when Louisiana-Lafayette played Tulane, two schools from inside the state. When both teams travel from far away, resale prices tend to soften and often slide closer to kickoff. Hotels are another matter: the Central Business District fills with holiday visitors, so book lodging early even if you wait on tickets. Every Reserved Seat order is backed by a 100% guarantee.

Streetcar, garages and clear bags at the dome

  • Streetcar: the Loyola Avenue line starts at Union Passenger Terminal next to the Superdome and stops at Julia, Poydras and Canal streets, where you can switch to the Canal line toward the French Quarter.
  • Driving: event garages ring the Superdome complex and have run cashless. Reserve a space in advance instead of circling downtown.
  • Rideshare: the designated zone is on Poydras Street between Clara Street and Loyola Avenue.
  • Bags: the bowl lists a clear-bag rule: one transparent bag up to 12 by 6 by 12 inches or a one-gallon freezer bag, plus a clutch of about 4.5 by 6.5 inches. There is no bag check, and medical bags are inspected and tagged.

The Superdome says rules for non-NFL events vary, so confirm the current policy on the New Orleans Bowl site. For bowl week, the 2026 schedule lists Yoga in the Dome, a STEM Fest and a Fellowship of Christian Athletes event, with details due nearer the game. The French Quarter, a short ride away, fills in the rest of the trip.

Katrina, Southern Miss and a string of sponsor names

Colorado State beat North Texas 45–20 in the first game, in 2001, and ESPN or ESPN2 has aired every edition since. In 2005, after Hurricane Katrina damaged the Superdome, the game was moved to Cajun Field in Lafayette for one year.

  • Most successful program: Southern Miss, four wins from six trips. Troy is 3–1.
  • Extra time: Troy edged Southern Miss 30–27 in 2008, and Jacksonville State beat Louisiana 34–31 in 2023, both in overtime.
  • Biggest scoring day: Troy 50, North Texas 30, in 2017.
  • Lately: Western Kentucky won in 2022, Jacksonville State in 2023 and Sam Houston in 2024, and Western Kentucky won again in 2025, beating Southern Miss 27–16 before 16,693.

Names change here. The bowl ran without a title sponsor from 2001 to 2003, took the Wyndham name in 2004 and was the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl from 2006 through 2024; it had no announced title sponsor for 2025. The building has gone from Louisiana Superdome to Mercedes-Benz Superdome (2011) to Caesars Superdome (2021), so older recaps may use any of those names.
