Upcoming TCU Horned Frogs Football dates
Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.
Best seats at the Carter, in brief
For a TCU game, buy a sideline seat inside the 30s on the west side of Amon G. Carter Stadium, somewhere above row 10. That combination gives you a clean view, keeps the late-day sun off your face and lifts you above the players crowding the sideline. If you are watching cost, the south end zone and the corners are the value seats.
TCU lists capacity at 46,000, and standing-room areas push crowds higher. Because the bowl is mid-sized, upper rows here are much closer to the field than upper rows in the biggest Big 12 stadiums, so climbing a few rows to save money costs you less view than you might expect.
West stands vs. east stands in Fort Worth heat
The grandstands line the west and east sidelines of a field laid out on a north-south axis. At a day game, west-side fans face east with the sun behind them, while east-side fans squint into it all afternoon. September heat in Fort Worth lingers, which makes the west stands the easier choice for an early-season afternoon kickoff. Under the lights the difference disappears, and you can choose on view and price alone.
Whichever side you pick, bring sunscreen and a plan for staying hydrated at a day game. Sealed water bottles are one of the few outside items the stadium lets in, which is worth knowing before you leave the car.
Reading the Amon G. Carter Stadium bowl
Arkansas was the first visitor when the stadium opened in October 1930, and TCU won. From 2010 through 2012, almost everything above the original lower bowl came down and went back up, styled after the Art Deco buildings Fort Worth put up in the 1930s. The rebuilt stadium hosted its first game on September 8, 2012. Fans call it "the Carter" or "Hell's Half Acre," a name borrowed from a rowdy district of frontier-era Fort Worth.
Rows worth paying for
The first handful of rows behind the team benches feel close, but they sit low, and the crowd of players and staff on the sideline cuts off part of the view. From about row 10 upward the sightline clears, and rows in the middle of the lower bowl are the sweet spot for most fans.
End zones
The main video board hangs above the north end zone. Fans sitting under it lose easy access to replays, so the south end zone is the better of the two ends.
Premium areas
Three club products, the Champions Club, the Founder's Club and the east-side Legends Club and Suites added in 2020, are sold mostly as season packages. The grass field has carried the name Moncrief Field since 2003.
Noise and visiting fans
The loudest seats are the ones around the students and the band; the student allocation can shift by season, so check the current seating chart. For big games, visiting fans land wherever resale seats turned up, so expect their colors in the upper rows and behind the goal posts.
Rivals and ranked visitors: TCU's demand calendar
Nearly all of TCU's rivalries grew out of its 72 seasons in the Southwest Conference.
- SMU Mustangs Football: the Iron Skillet game, a crosstown Metroplex matchup that has been played in almost every season since 1915. The two schools now sit in different leagues, so the game is booked outside conference play when it happens.
- Baylor Bears Football: among the most frequently played series in the country, going back to an 1899 game that ended 0–0 while both schools were still in Waco.
- Texas Tech Red Raiders Football: the West Texas Championship, with the Saddle Trophy revived in 2017 for a series that began in 1926.
- Texas Longhorns Football: a long, lopsided series in the Longhorns' favor that now depends on non-conference scheduling since Texas moved to the SEC.
Expect the strongest resale demand for Baylor or Texas Tech at home, ranked Big 12 visitors such as Oklahoma State Cowboys Football or UCF Knights Football in a good year, Homecoming and any headline non-conference opponent. The attendance record, 53,294, was set when Colorado opened the 2023 season in Fort Worth, a reminder that one high-profile visitor can lift demand far above normal.
Frog Club priority and the resale route
The best sideline locations and parking passes at TCU go to season ticket holders who donate to the Frog Club, the department's fundraising arm, and the order is generally set by how much and how long you have given. The stadium first sold out every home game in 2012, and demand has stayed strong in winning years.
The practical result is that few single-game seats reach the public for marquee dates, and many fans end up buying from season ticket holders who resell. Seats for rivals and ranked opponents tend to get more expensive as game day nears, while September non-conference games often soften. Every Reserved Seat order includes guaranteed entry.
Tailgates, parking and the clear-bag rules
Tailgating fills the lots around the stadium. The Frog Club runs gameday parking, and an outside company sells premium tailgate setups. Arrive early when a big crowd is expected. Downtown Fort Worth and the Stockyards district are a short drive from campus, so plenty of visitors turn the game into a full weekend in Dallas–Fort Worth.
As of the 2026 season, every TCU athletics venue uses a clear-bag policy. Approved options:
- a transparent plastic, vinyl or PVC tote no bigger than 12 x 6 x 12 inches
- a see-through drawstring sack up to 12 x 12 inches
- a gallon-size clear storage bag
- a clutch no larger than 4.5 x 6.5 inches
Leave umbrellas, glass and artificial noisemakers at home, along with any food or drink except sealed water. Confirm the details on the TCU clear bag policy page before gameday.
Horned Frogs history: Baugh, O'Brien and the 2022 run
The program dates to 1896, when the school was called AddRan Christian University and was located in Waco. Coach Dutch Meyer built its first great era in the 1930s, and TCU claims national titles for 1935, with Sammy Baugh at quarterback, and 1938, when Davey O'Brien led an unbeaten team to the top of the final AP rankings and took home the only Heisman Trophy in TCU history.
After decades of struggle, Dennis Franchione started a revival and Gary Patterson finished it, coaching from 2000 to 2021 and winning more games than anyone before him at TCU. His 2010 team went unbeaten and edged Wisconsin 21–19 in the Rose Bowl Game. TCU moved to the Big 12 in 2012, earned a share of the 2014 title and made the College Football Playoff after the 2022 season, knocking off Michigan 51–45 in a Fiesta Bowl semifinal before Georgia beat the Frogs for the championship. Only four programs have appeared in all six New Year's Six bowls, and TCU is one of them.
School colors are purple and white, and black became a regular accent in the 1990s. A thin red "blood stripe" on several helmet designs nods to the horned frog, which can spray blood from its eyes to scare off predators.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the shade at Amon G. Carter Stadium?
On the west side for afternoon games. The field runs north to south, so the east grandstand looks into the sun while the west stands keep it behind you.
Should you buy front-row seats at a TCU game?
Usually not. The lowest rows behind the benches sit below the players and staff on the sideline, so row 10 and higher gives a clearer look at the whole field.
Which end zone is better at the Carter?
The south end zone. The main video board hangs over the north end, so fans at the south end can watch replays without craning their necks.
What is the attendance record at Amon G. Carter Stadium?
The record is 53,294, set against Colorado at the 2023 opener. TCU lists the stadium at 46,000 seats, with standing room above that.
Can you bring a clear drawstring bag to a TCU game?
Yes. As of 2026, see-through drawstring sacks up to 12 x 12 inches are allowed, along with small clear totes, gallon-size clear storage bags and small clutches. Check TCU's current rules before you go.
