Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.
Rose Bowl seat picks for a Bruins game
The best UCLA seat at the Rose Bowl is on the west sideline, between the 20-yard lines, around row 20 to row 40. That side sits in front of the press box pavilion, has carried UCLA's bench and picks up shade as an afternoon game goes on. For most games you can afford to be choosy, because UCLA rarely fills the stadium.
Pass on the rows marked with letters and the first few numbered rows; at that height you are practically on the grass, and the crowd on the sideline blocks the far side of the play. The end zones are mostly bench seating, which is fine for a casual afternoon but less comfortable than a chairback on the sideline.
Sections 1–28, L and H halves, and the pavilion side
Rose Bowl Stadium opened in October 1922 in the Arroyo Seco, roughly 10 miles up the road from downtown Los Angeles, to the north-northeast. It is a single open bowl with no roof and no upper deck, so the row you buy matters more than any level designation.
- Numbering: sections 1 through 28 circle the oval, and an aisle splits each one into an L half and an H half, for low and high seat numbers.
- West sideline: roughly sections 16 to 20, backed by the Terry Donahue Pavilion, a seven-level tower holding the press box, 54 suites, 48 loge boxes and about 1,200 club seats.
- East sideline: roughly sections 1 to 8, facing the pavilion.
- End zones: mostly bench seating rather than individual chairs.
The top rows are far from the field but have nothing overhead, a clean view of every play and the San Gabriel foothills behind the far rim. These section ranges come from independent seating guides rather than a UCLA map, so confirm on your listing.
Why the crowd looks smaller
The stadium's listed capacity is about 89,700. For UCLA games since 2021, a tarp covers the upper north end zone, bringing the official count down to 69,747. That leaves supply for most dates and makes a good sideline seat the best use of your budget.
Afternoon shade, early heat and cool nights
The field runs close to north and south. As the afternoon sun sinks behind the pavilion, its shadow spreads across the west stands; fans on the east side and behind the goal posts get direct light until sundown. September games in Pasadena can be hot, and UCLA counters the heat with refill stations for water bottles, air-conditioned buses, shade tents and misting fans. For a night game, bring a layer: the canyon cools fast after dark.
USC week and the other Pasadena dates that fill seats
USC Trojans Football is the game that matters. The two campuses are about 10 miles apart inside Los Angeles, the teams shared the Coliseum until 1982, and every year they play for the Victory Bell. The site alternates, and in 2026 the game is at the Rose Bowl on November 28, the final Saturday of the regular season. The stadium's regular-season attendance record, 100,741, was set at the 1988 UCLA–USC game.
- Big Ten road crowds: Fans of Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin and Penn State are known for following their teams, and a fall weekend in Southern California is an easy sell. The 2026 home slate includes Wisconsin, Purdue, Michigan State and Illinois.
- Old Pac-12 rivals: Oregon Ducks Football and Washington Huskies Football joined the Big Ten alongside UCLA in 2024.
- California Golden Bears Football: the teams met every year from 1933 to 2023, and UCLA has scheduled nonconference games with Cal from 2026 through 2029.
Most nonconference and early-season games are easy to buy, and resale prices for them usually sit well below USC week.
Season packages, single games and when resale matters
UCLA sells season packages, with priority based on donor giving, plus single-game seats and student tickets. Because the Rose Bowl rarely sells out for UCLA, you can usually buy single games well into the week; planning early mostly matters if you want to land a strong sideline location or a good parking spot.
The exceptions are USC in Pasadena and any Big Ten opponent with a large traveling following. For those games, most sideline seats come from season holders reselling the games they value most. Tickets are mobile. Every Reserved Seat order is backed by a 100% guarantee.
Arroyo Seco logistics: lots, shuttles and bags
Because the stadium is tucked into a neighborhood canyon west of central Pasadena, getting in and out by car is the venue's biggest headache. Arrive early and plan to leave late.
- Parking and tailgating: according to UCLA's gameday guide, parking areas open six hours ahead of kickoff (the Brookside golf course is used when it is dry), and tailgates must wrap up within 90 minutes of the final whistle. Tents are capped at 10 by 10 feet, glass is banned and alcohol is not allowed after kickoff. Buying parking in advance costs less than paying on the day.
- Park-and-ride: a paid Parsons lot in Old Town Pasadena has been paired with a no-cost shuttle to the stadium.
- Metro: Memorial Park station in Old Pasadena is about 2.4 miles away; walk or catch the gameday shuttle.
- Gates: they open an hour and a half before kickoff, and nearly every purchase inside is card or phone only.
As of the 2026 season, your options are a transparent bag no larger than 12 x 6 x 12 inches, a gallon-size clear freezer bag, a 4.5 x 6.5-inch clutch, or a diaper bag if you have a child with you. Purses, backpacks, fanny packs, mesh or tinted bags and cases for cameras or binoculars will be turned away. Rules can change, so review UCLA's gameday information first. Before kickoff, consider a stop at the 1922 locker room, now a small museum after a 2017 restoration, and at the Court of Champions by the south end.
Powder blue, 1954 and the stadium dispute
UCLA first fielded a team in 1919 and played at the Coliseum from 1928 to 1981 before moving to the Rose Bowl. Red Sanders built the high point of the 1950s and introduced the powder blue that still defines the uniforms. His unbeaten 1954 squad (9–0) finished first in the Coaches' Poll, shared with AP champion Ohio State, and that is the championship UCLA claims. Quarterback Gary Beban took the 1967 Heisman Trophy. Terry Donahue, who won more games than any other UCLA coach, took the Bruins to 13 bowls and an NCAA-record eight straight bowl wins. Before he broke baseball's color line, Jackie Robinson was a UCLA football player.
Rose Bowl or SoFi Stadium
In late 2025, reports said UCLA planned to move to SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. Pasadena and the Rose Bowl Operating Company went to court, pointing to a lease that does not expire until 2043. In February 2026, UCLA confirmed it would stay in Pasadena for the 2026 season. Every 2026 home game is listed in Pasadena; check the schedule before planning around either stadium for later years. Coaches and rosters change too, so use the team site for the current staff.
Frequently asked questions
What do the L and H mean on Rose Bowl tickets?
Each of the Rose Bowl's 28 sections is split by an aisle into two halves: L for the lower seat numbers and H for the higher ones.
Which rows are best at the Rose Bowl for UCLA games?
Rows 20 to 40 on the sidelines between the 20-yard lines are the sweet spot. Lower than that, the players and staff on the sideline get in the way of the far side of the field.
Will UCLA play at SoFi Stadium in 2026?
No. Pasadena's lawsuit over the stadium lease, which runs to 2043, kept the Bruins home for now; in February 2026 UCLA confirmed a 2026 season at the Rose Bowl. Future years are still open, so check the schedule.
Why is the Rose Bowl capacity lower for UCLA games?
UCLA has tarped off the top of the north end zone for its games since 2021, so the official count for Bruins games is 69,747 instead of the stadium's listed figure of about 89,700.
Can you take the Metro to a UCLA game?
Partly. Memorial Park station in Old Pasadena is about 2.4 miles from the stadium, so you will need to walk or use the gameday shuttle from there.
Is the end zone at the Rose Bowl bench seating?
Mostly, yes. The end zones are largely benches rather than individual chairbacks, which is one reason sideline seats are worth the extra cost.
