South side keeps sun at your back · 54,000 seats plus standing room

Autzen's sunken bowl puts 54,000 seats close to the field. Choose the right side, plan for rain and know which Ducks games are hardest to reach.

Upcoming Oregon Ducks Football dates

Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.

Autzen seats worth targeting first

The strongest Oregon seat is a sideline seat between the 30-yard lines on the south side, in row 15 or higher. Autzen Stadium in Eugene is small and sunken, so even upper sideline rows feel close, and south-side fans have the afternoon sun behind them. The listed seat count is 54,000, crowds approach 60,000 once standing room fills, and the home schedule opens around Labor Day and closes in November, almost always on Saturdays.

End zones are the budget play, and the student section is the choice only if you plan to stand and shout.

North side, south side and the sunken bowl

The field at Autzen is set below ground level, which brings the stands in tight and traps the noise. It runs east to west, angled slightly to keep the low late-season sun out of players' eyes, which puts one sideline on the north and the other on the south.

  • South sideline: the side expanded in 2002 with more seats and luxury boxes. During a day game, the sun stays over your shoulder.
  • North sideline: faces the sun during day games. At night, it is just as good as the south side.
  • Low rows near the benches: players and staff block the near sideline. Rows in the teens and up see over them.

Rain and the umbrella rule

Sun matters in September; rain matters more in October and November. Little of the seating is covered, and the stadium bars open umbrellas from the stands and aisles. Pack a hooded rain shell.

End zones, students and standing room at Autzen

  • East end zone: home to a video board measuring about 186 by 66 feet, installed in 2020 and the largest in college football at the time. Sitting here puts it behind you.
  • West end zone: faces the big board directly, which makes it the better end for replays and the usual pick for value.
  • Student section: students come in through the South Gate to a dedicated, alcohol-free section. Expect noise and standing.
  • Standing room: tickets around the top of the bowl add roughly 6,000 people beyond the seat count. Thanks to those spots, 60,129 people watched Oregon edge Ohio State 32–31 on October 12, 2024, the largest crowd in stadium history.

Big Ten arrivals and other Autzen sellouts

Oregon's move to the Big Ten in 2024 reshaped which home games are scarce. Autzen is one of the smallest stadiums in the conference, so visits from big-brand programs leave little supply.

  • Washington: the rivalry Ducks fans care about most, played since 1900 and now protected as an annual Big Ten game. Every home pregame replays The Pick, Kenny Wheaton's 97-yard interception touchdown against Washington in 1994.
  • The conference giants: USC, Penn State, Michigan and Ohio State are the new headline visitors. The Buckeyes drew the record crowd in 2024, and the Trojans lost 42–27 in Eugene in 2025, the first league meeting since the Pac-12 days.
  • Oregon State: the in-state Civil War dates to 1894 and was played every season from 1945 through the end of the Pac-12 era. With the schools in different conferences, it is not guaranteed every season.
  • Home playoff games: the expanded 12-team bracket lets a top seed play its opening game at home, and James Madison came to Eugene for one after the 2025 season.

Night games, ranked opponents and a College GameDay visit all raise demand. For a lower-cost first visit, pick a September game against a smaller school.

What an Autzen crowd sounds like

Coaches and broadcasters have long ranked Autzen among the loudest venues in the sport, and a meter registered 127.2 decibels during the 2007 USC game, with 59,277 in the stands. Expect these moments:

  • The rain line: since 1990 the PA voice has opened each home game by telling the crowd it never rains in Autzen, and the crowd repeats it even in a downpour.
  • The motorcycle entrance: the Duck leads the team out riding pillion on a motorcycle, Mighty Oregon blaring from the band. The north stands then shout Go, and the south stands reply Ducks.
  • Shout: the 1978 film Animal House used Autzen as Faber College's stadium, and when the third quarter ends, the toga-party song Shout comes on and the whole bowl dances.
  • Train horn and push-ups: each Ducks score sets off a train horn, followed by the mascot's push-ups, one per point.

Crossing the footbridge and clearing the gates

The Willamette River separates the stadium from campus, and the simplest route is on foot: cross the Autzen Footbridge, which starts roughly a quarter mile from the heart of campus, and follow the path through Alton Baker Park. If you are driving in from farther out, the athletics department's Autzen Express buses leave park-and-ride lots in Springfield and Eugene beginning three hours ahead of kickoff. Rides back leave only at halftime and during the first hour after the final whistle. For 2026 you buy shuttle passes online, and drivers take no cash. LTD city buses can get you to campus, though LTD itself does not operate a stadium shuttle. Reserved lots, assigned by donor priority, open six hours ahead of kickoff but not before 7 a.m. Details are on Oregon's gameday parking page.

Under 2026 rules, each fan may carry a single transparent bag (12 by 6 by 12 inches maximum) or a clear gallon storage bag, along with a small clutch. Stadium cushions are limited to 17.5 by 13.5 inches, with backs up to 19 inches tall. Gates generally open three hours ahead of kickoff, except the East Gate, which opens 90 minutes ahead; re-entry is not allowed, and beer and wine are sold outside the student areas. Check the Autzen Stadium page before you go.

Why Oregon's top games rarely reach a public sale

Oregon fills its stadium with season tickets before anything else, and a priority-points system run by the Duck Athletic Fund, the donor arm of the athletics department, decides who gets the prime seats and parking. Students buy through a separate program, the ticket office handles whatever single-game seats remain for home and road games, and every ticket is delivered to your phone.

Small capacity plus a Big Ten slate means the single-game supply for the Huskies and the conference heavyweights often vanishes quickly, and resale becomes the main way in. Resale prices go up with an Oregon ranking, a GameDay broadcast or a night kickoff, and they are softest for early non-conference dates. Reserved Seat covers every order with a 100% guarantee.

From the Webfoots to Big Ten champions

The program dates to 1894, and for roughly 70 years its teams were known as the Webfoots. The program was mostly regional until Rich Brooks rebuilt it; in 1994 his team took an outright conference crown and a trip to Pasadena, and the playing surface was later named for him. A national title game appearance followed the 2010 season. Four years later, Marcus Mariota brought Eugene its first Heisman Trophy and led the Ducks into the inaugural College Football Playoff championship game. In 2024, after about 60 years in the Pacific coast league in its various forms, Oregon finished the regular season unbeaten and won the conference title.

The Ducks' look is part of the identity. Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman, his former track coach at Oregon, started Nike in Eugene, and the company has supplied the Ducks' uniforms since 1995, often with a new uniform combination each week.

Frequently asked questions

Which side of Autzen Stadium is best for an afternoon game?

The south side. With the field running east to west, south-side fans have the sun behind them and north-side fans face it.

Can I bring an umbrella to an Oregon game?

No. You cannot open an umbrella in the stands or aisles. Most seats are uncovered, so bring a rain jacket for October and November games.

Which end zone at Autzen faces the big video board?

The west end zone. The large board installed in 2020 is in the east end zone, behind fans seated there.

How do standing-room tickets work at Autzen?

Standing room around the top of the bowl adds roughly 6,000 people to the 54,000 seats. Attendance peaked at 60,129 for the 2024 Ohio State game.

Is there a shuttle to Autzen Stadium?

Yes. The Autzen Express buses run from park-and-ride lots around Eugene and Springfield, and as of 2026 you must buy passes online.
