Vanderbilt Commodores Football Tickets

About 35,000 seats · short sightlines · home crowd near the students

With about 35,000 seats after its renovation, FirstBank Stadium has short sightlines everywhere. Your bigger choice is whose fans you sit beside.

Upcoming Vanderbilt Commodores football dates

Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.

Where to sit at Vanderbilt, decided quickly

Sideline seats inside the 30s give the best view at FirstBank Stadium, but the gap between those and the corners or end zones is smaller here than almost anywhere in the SEC. With about 35,000 seats, the building is compact, so an end zone ticket costs you less view than it would in a 100,000-seat stadium. If you want to be surrounded by Vanderbilt fans, buy on the home sideline or close to the student section, especially when a big SEC road crowd is in town.

A smaller stadium after the rebuild

Michigan was the first opponent when Dudley Field opened on October 14, 1922, and the game ended scoreless. Sources call it the South's first stadium designed purely for college football. It was Vanderbilt Stadium from 1981 until 2022, when a ten-year naming deal made it FirstBank Stadium.

Work that started in 2022 rebuilt much of the venue, widening concourses, adding hospitality areas and trimming the seat count to about 35,000 from roughly 40,350. The field is artificial turf. Nautical touches are everywhere: a battleship-gray press box shaped like a ship, a foghorn called "The Admiral" that Naval ROTC midshipmen sound, and the Star V victory flag.

How the seats compare

  • Sideline: the 30-to-30 seats are the top choice, and even upper rows here are closer than mid-level seats in the conference's biggest stadiums.
  • Corners and end zones: the value pick, because short sightlines across the building shrink the view penalty.
  • Clubs: the renovation added club and premium spaces. Locations were not confirmed for this guide, so check the seating chart on your listing.

Students, road crowds and Nashville heat

Students come in through a dedicated Student Gate and pick up wristbands for the student section first come, first served; when it fills, extra students are seated elsewhere. Expect to stand if your seats touch the student area.

Road fans are a genuine factor. Nashville is easy to reach and a popular weekend trip, so the Tennessee Volunteers football following and big SEC fan bases such as Georgia and Alabama can take a large share of the stadium. Buy near the students or the home side if you want a home crowd around you.

In August and September, Nashville's muggy heat is what you will notice most. For a noon kickoff, look for seats with cover or with the sun behind you; the stadium's orientation was not confirmed for this guide, so check the chart before you buy.

Volunteers, Wildcats and Vanderbilt's biggest home dates

From 2026, the SEC plays nine conference games, with three fixed annual opponents per school, so the home schedule rotates more than it did with divisions. The hottest tickets are Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia, followed by Homecoming, Family Weekend and any November game with a bowl bid at stake. Nonconference games are the easiest way in.

Season holders, fewer seats and resale

Season ticket holders and donors get priority on the best sideline seats, and students get access through the university. With roughly 5,000 fewer seats than before the renovation, dates that used to have seats to spare may now sell through.

When a big SEC fan base is coming to town and buying in quantity, resale is where most fans find seats. Nonconference games rarely run short; Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia are where inventory gets scarce. SEC kickoff times are often set close to game week, so confirm the time before booking travel. Gates, Vandyville and what you can carry

For 2026, every gate opens two hours ahead of kickoff:

  • Gate 1: northwest corner, near the Marriott.
  • Gate 2 (Frist Family Gate): on the Natchez Trace side.
  • Gate 3: by Hawkins Field.
  • Gate 4: northeast corner, near Memorial Gym.

Vandyville, the 90-plus-space tailgate zone, opens its doors four hours ahead of kickoff. Tents are limited to 10 by 10 feet with no stakes, and kegs and trailers are not allowed. Season parkers need a digital pass; garage spots for single games can be bought in advance or that day. The stadium is cashless, and tickets are mobile, so load them into your phone's wallet before you leave.

Under SEC rules, the allowed options are a single see-through bag of 12 x 6 x 12 inches or smaller, or a clear gallon storage bag, and you may add a 4.5 x 6.5-inch clutch. Review Vanderbilt's football gameday page for current details.

An SEC founder's record, from McGugin to 2025

Vanderbilt began playing in 1890, became the Commodores after the 1897 season and helped found the SEC in 1932. Its 14 league championships all predate the SEC, and Dan McGugin delivered most of them across a 30-year run that produced 198 victories. The program has eight unbeaten seasons, the last in 1944, and various selectors picked Vanderbilt as national champion six times from 1906 to 1922, titles the university does not claim.

The recent highlights are big ones. On October 5, 2024, Vanderbilt beat No. 1 Alabama 40–35, ending a losing streak against Alabama that dated to 1984, and the 2025 team won 10 regular-season games, a program record.

Frequently asked questions

Are end zone seats worth it at FirstBank Stadium?

Usually, yes. The stadium holds about 35,000, so sightlines are short everywhere and end zone or corner seats give up less view than they would at a larger SEC stadium.

Do visiting fans take over Vanderbilt home games?

For some opponents they take a large share. Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama and other SEC fan bases travel well to Nashville, so buy near the student section or home sideline to sit with Vanderbilt fans.

Which gate should I use at FirstBank Stadium?

As of 2026, there are four gates, all opening two hours before kickoff: Gate 1 by the Marriott, the Frist Family Gate (Gate 2) on the Natchez Trace side, Gate 3 by Hawkins Field and Gate 4 by Memorial Gym. Pick the one closest to your section.

Can I pay cash at Vanderbilt football games?

No. As of the 2026 season, FirstBank Stadium is cashless, and tickets are mobile only.

What was FirstBank Stadium called before?

It opened as Dudley Field in 1922, became Vanderbilt Stadium in 1981 and took the FirstBank name under a ten-year deal in 2022.
