Alamo Bowl Tickets

Tue., Dec. 29, 2026 · 8 p.m. CT · indoors at the Alamodome

Under a dome, the seat choice comes down to angle and distance alone. Here is how to pick one for San Antonio's prime-time December bowl.

Upcoming Alamo Bowl dates

Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.

The Alamodome seat call for bowl night

For the Alamo Bowl, the seat to target is a lower-level sideline seat between the 20-yard lines, about halfway up the section rather than in the front rows. The game is played indoors at the Alamodome in downtown San Antonio, so there is no sun side, no wind and no rain to plan around. Your choice comes down to two things: how close you want to be, and how much of the field you want to see at once.

The 2026 game, formally the Valero Alamo Bowl, kicks off on Tuesday, December 29, 2026, at 8 p.m. Central on ESPN. Valero Energy, the San Antonio refiner, is the title sponsor.

Five levels under one roof, compared

The Alamodome, owned by the City of San Antonio, opened in May 1993, the year of the first Alamo Bowl. It is a five-level, climate-controlled domed stadium that seats about 64,000 for football and can expand to about 72,000. UTSA (the University of Texas at San Antonio) plays its home schedule here, and the building has hosted several NCAA men's and women's Final Fours.

  • Lower sideline, middle rows. The best all-around seats and the first to get expensive when two big fan bases are matched. Mid-section rows see over the benches and sideline staff.
  • Lower sideline, front rows. Close to the players but set at field height, where team personnel and equipment block the view of the far sideline.
  • Club and upper sideline. Higher and wider. You lose intimacy and gain a clear read on formations and coverages.
  • Lower end zone. Fine for watching drives finish at your end; hard to judge anything happening at the far goal line.
  • Top of the upper level. The budget choice. The roof keeps the crowd noise in, but the field looks small.

Choosing a side once the matchup is set

The two schools' fans usually group themselves behind their own team's sideline. After the pairing is announced in early December, a seat a few rows farther back among your own fans tends to beat a closer seat in the other school's section. You cheer with the people around you, and you avoid an awkward night.

The pairing comes from conference tie-ins (agreements that reserve the bowl's slots for certain leagues). For more than a decade, the Alamo Bowl has matched a Big 12 team against a Pac-12 team. With the Pac-12 broken up, the bowl extended its selection rights through the 2026 season using two 12-school pools: one from the Big 12, and one built from the Pac-12 and its former members, such as USC and Colorado. The bowl picks the first available team from each pool after the College Football Playoff field is set.

Beyond 2026, nothing is fixed. Bowl leadership has said it wants room to choose from a wider group of teams, and agreements for later seasons were still being discussed as of fall 2026.

What moves Alamo Bowl prices

The matchup drives nearly everything, and it is unknown until December. Three variables matter most:

  • Driving distance. A Texas school or a Big 12 program from a nearby state brings a large crowd by car. A West Coast team usually travels in smaller numbers.
  • National profile. Ranked teams and schools with national followings fill the lower level fast.
  • Holiday timing. The game falls between Christmas and New Year's, so downtown hotel rooms get scarce at the same time tickets do.

Lower sideline seats usually jump in the first days after the announcement. Upper-level and end zone seats hold steadier, and prices can ease near kickoff if one fan base travels lightly. Reserved Seat orders carry a 100% guarantee.

River rally, luncheon and Tailgate Town

The bowl fills the days before kickoff with fan events. Its published 2026 calendar includes:

  • December 27: the Ricos River Rally, a fan gathering tied to the River Walk.
  • December 28: the Kickoff Luncheon.
  • December 29: Tailgate Town opening at 9 a.m., then a Fan Zone and a pregame party through the late afternoon before the 8 p.m. kickoff.

Alamodome lots allow tailgating only for UTSA home games and the Alamo Bowl, and only with a permit. Under the stadium's posted rules, charcoal, wood and propane grills are fine; glass, deep fryers and pets other than service animals are not; and tents must be weighted. Check the stadium's tailgating page for the current version.

With a night kickoff, you have the whole day for the River Walk, the Alamo and Hemisfair, all a walk or a short ride from the dome.

Lots, rideshare and the clear-bag rule at 100 Montana Street

The Alamodome stands at 100 Montana Street, beside I-37 on the southeastern edge of downtown. Many visitors book a downtown hotel and walk, skipping game-night parking altogether.

  • Driving. Lot A is reached from the northbound I-37 access road; Lots B and C from southbound Cherry Street. Off-site parking can also be prepaid through ParkWhiz.
  • Rideshare and taxis. Drop-off and pickup are in Lot D at 500 Tower of Americas Way, with a walkway to security.
  • Transit. VIA Metropolitan Transit runs Park & Ride service for major events at the dome; check VIA's event listings for the bowl.

As of 2026, the Alamodome follows a clear-bag policy. You may bring a clear plastic bag or backpack up to 12 by 6 by 12 inches, a one-gallon clear storage bag, or a small bag or clutch up to 5.5 by 8.5 inches. Confirm the Alamodome's bag policy before the game.

Builders Square to Valero, and 123 points in one night

The bowl debuted in 1993, and the Alamodome counts about 1.93 million fans across its first 33 games. The title sponsors, in order:

  • Builders Square, 1993–1998.
  • Sylvania, 1999–2001.
  • MasterCard, 2002–2005.
  • Valero, 2007 to today.

Penn State and Texas A&M drew the record crowd of 66,166 in 2007. Two years earlier, Nebraska and Michigan finished with a frantic, lateral-filled kickoff return that reminded many viewers of Cal's "The Play." Texas and Iowa set an ESPN audience record for college football in 2006. Baylor outlasted Washington 67–56 in 2011, and those 123 combined points are still the bowl-game record. In January 2016, TCU beat Oregon 47–41 in triple overtime before the bowl's largest peak audience, and in the 2025 edition TCU edged USC 30–27 in overtime.

Frequently asked questions

Does weather matter for Alamo Bowl seats?

No. The Alamodome is a climate-controlled domed stadium, so sun, wind and rain play no part in choosing a seat.

What time is the 2026 Alamo Bowl?

Kickoff is 8 p.m. Central on Tuesday, December 29, 2026, at the Alamodome, televised on ESPN.

How are Alamo Bowl teams chosen?

Through the 2026 season, the bowl takes the first available team from a Big 12 pool and from a Pac-12 and former Pac-12 pool once the College Football Playoff field is set. Agreements after 2026 were not final as of fall 2026.

Are the front rows the best seats at the Alamodome?

Usually not. The first rows sit at field level behind benches and sideline staff, so middle rows of the lower level give a clearer view.

What bags are allowed at the Alamodome?

As of 2026, clear bags or backpacks up to 12 by 6 by 12 inches, a one-gallon clear storage bag, or a small bag up to 5.5 by 8.5 inches. Check the stadium's site for changes.

Where do rideshares drop off for the Alamo Bowl?

In Lot D at 500 Tower of Americas Way, which has a walkway to the security checkpoint.
