Upcoming Gasparilla Bowl dates
Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.
Your Gasparilla Bowl seat in one paragraph
Buy on the west sideline of Raymond James Stadium, between the 20-yard lines, in the middle rows of the 100 level. The 2026 Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl kicks off at 2:30 p.m. Eastern on Friday, December 18, 2026, on ESPN, and for an afternoon start in an open-air stadium, shade is the variable that matters most. Buccaneers seating guides agree the sun drops behind the west side, so those seats lose the glare first while the east side looks into it for most of the game.
Then decide when to buy based on who is playing. If a Florida school is in the game, move quickly after the announcement. If two distant teams are matched, there is usually no rush.
Sun side, shade side and the three decks
The stadium opened in 1998 as the home of the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers and has three levels. The 100 level rings the field, the 200 level holds the club seating, and the 300 level is the upper deck. None of the lower-level seats has a roof over it.
West side (shade first)
The Buccaneers' bench side, roughly sections 106 to 115 on the lower level and 306 to 315 above. The sun sets behind this side, so it shades earliest. This is where most buyers should start.
East side (facing the sun)
Mid-December sun in Tampa is gentler than in early fall, but east-side seats still face it for much of a 2:30 start. Bring sunglasses and a hat if you sit here.
Club level
The 200 level adds a covered concourse and a higher angle that shows formations clearly. Good for comfort without giving up the sideline view.
Upper deck
When the crowd is small, midfield seats up top are often the best value, and the bowl does not always open every section.
Gasparilla Bowl seats to think twice about
- The first few rows of the 100 level. They sit at field height, behind team staff on the sideline. Rows in the middle of the section see more of the play.
- Sections 146 to 151. These sit right under Buccaneer Cove, the north end zone area with the 103-foot replica pirate ship. The atmosphere is loud, but you are watching from behind the goal line.
- A seat on the wrong side. The bowl sets team sidelines each year, and they do not always match the Buccaneers' layout. Once the pairing is out, confirm which side each school gets before you choose.
When to buy: the in-state factor
Few bowls in Florida swing as much in attendance. Raymond James Stadium holds about 69,000. UCF against Florida in 2021, two in-state programs, drew 63,669, the record. NC State against Memphis in 2025 drew 13,336.
- Florida, UCF, USF or another school within driving range: the lower bowl can fill, and sideline demand climbs in the first days after the announcement. Buy early.
- Two schools from far away: on a Friday afternoon a week before Christmas, large parts of the stadium stay empty. Waiting rarely costs you.
- Announcement week: that is when the market moves most, as fans of the chosen teams buy.
The matchup itself comes from conference pools rather than a single fixed pairing. Wikipedia lists slots linked to the ACC, Big 12 and SEC plus Group of Five leagues (the American, Conference USA, the MAC and the Mountain West) and independents, and the bowl's own site was tracking ACC, American and SEC standings for 2026. Agreements are renegotiated every few years, and teams are named after the playoff field is set in early December.
Clutch-only bags, cashless lots and tailgating
As of fall 2026, the stadium's posted policy allows one small clutch, 4.5 by 6.5 inches at most. A larger bag is turned away even if it is clear. Rental lockers sit along Tom McEwen Boulevard, southeast of the stadium. A bowl can post its own rules, so check the venue's current policy before game day.
- Parking: cashless in every stadium lot.
- Tailgating: allowed in the lots, one space per vehicle, no saving spaces, and it ends at kickoff.
- Re-entry: not allowed.
- Leave at home: umbrellas, coolers, strollers and professional cameras.
The stadium is on North Dale Mabry Highway, close to Tampa International Airport, so a quick fly-in trip works. Friday afternoon traffic can crawl; leave early or use rideshare. The full rule list is on the stadium's policy page.
Pirates, fan zone and game week
The name arrived in 2017, borrowed from José Gaspar, the legendary pirate celebrated by Tampa's yearly Gasparilla Pirate Festival. The bowl's slogan is "Ahoy, Tampa," and the theme suits a stadium whose ship fires cannons when the Buccaneers score.
The bowl promotes a game-week fan zone and downtown hotel packages, with the JW Marriott and the Marriott Tampa Water Street among its partners, and runs community work under the Gasparilla Bowl Gives Back banner. Times and events are posted on gasparillabowl.com once teams are named. Many fans buy in the short gap between the announcement and kickoff, and Reserved Seat backs each of those orders with a 100% guarantee.
Six names, two stadiums
This game started across the bay. On December 20, 2008, South Florida beat Memphis 41–14 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg in the first edition. Its names since then:
- 2008: magicJack St. Petersburg Bowl
- 2009 to 2013: Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl
- 2014: Bitcoin St. Petersburg Bowl, backed by BitPay
- 2015 and 2016: St. Petersburg Bowl, with no sponsor
- 2017 to 2019: Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl
- 2020 onward: Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl
Raymond James Stadium became the home in 2018. South Carolina's withdrawal during the COVID-19 pandemic wiped out the 2020 game. Among recent editions, UCF topped Florida 29–17 in 2021, Florida routed Tulane 33–8 in December 2024 with 41,472 on hand, and NC State handled Memphis 31–7 in December 2025.
Frequently asked questions
Where should I sit to stay out of the sun at the Gasparilla Bowl?
The west sideline, roughly sections 106 to 115 on the lower level and 306 to 315 upstairs, shades first because the sun sets behind it.
What is the Gasparilla Bowl bag policy?
As of fall 2026, Raymond James Stadium allowed one small clutch no larger than 4.5 by 6.5 inches, and larger clear bags were refused. Confirm the current rule before game day.
Do I need to buy Gasparilla Bowl tickets early?
It depends on the teams. A Florida school can push the crowd past 60,000, while two distant schools have drawn closer to 13,000, leaving plenty of seats.
Can you tailgate before the Gasparilla Bowl?
Stadium policy allows tailgating in the lots within one parking space per vehicle, and it must end at kickoff.
When did the Gasparilla Bowl move to Tampa?
It played at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg starting in 2008, took the Gasparilla name in 2017 and moved to Raymond James Stadium in 2018.
