Upcoming ReliaQuest Bowl dates
Dates and live ticket listings appear here as soon as they are on sale. The guide below covers what to know before you buy.
West side, between the 20s: the ReliaQuest Bowl pick
For the ReliaQuest Bowl, buy on the west sideline (the Buccaneers' bench side, roughly sections 106 to 115 on the lower level) between the 20-yard lines. That side combines the best view of the field with the earliest shade, and shade matters at a noon kickoff in Florida, even on the last day of the year. The 2026 game is set for Thursday, December 31, 2026, at 12 p.m. Eastern on ESPN at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
The east sideline offers the same view in reverse, but you face the sun for much of the game. The lower bowl has no overhead cover anywhere, so sunglasses and sunscreen belong in your pocket no matter where you sit.
Raymond James Stadium's three levels in midday light
Raymond James Stadium has been the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' home since 1998. It is an open-air bowl of about 69,000 seats on three levels: the 100 level at field height, the 200 level with the club areas, and the 300-level upper deck. A 103-foot pirate ship sits in the north end zone.
The winter sun hangs low in the southern sky at midday and sets behind the west stands, which is why Buccaneers seating guides consistently name the west side as the one that shades first.
- Lower west sideline (about 106–115): the top seat for this game, with view and shade together.
- Upper west (about 306–315): the shaded option higher up, and a sensible value buy with a full-field angle.
- 200-level club sideline: height plus covered concourse space, helpful over a long midday game.
- East sideline (visiting midfield near 135–136): an equal view, but sun in your face.
Where the view breaks down at Raymond James
- The first few lower-level rows. At that height, players, coaches and staff along the sideline block the field. A row in the teens or higher sees over them.
- North end zone, about sections 146–151. You sit under the pirate ship. It is loud and fun, but the far end of the field is a long way off and hard to read.
- Low corners on the east side. A poor angle and full sun is the worst combination in the building for this kickoff time.
The bowl assigns each school a sideline. Once the teams are named, check which side your team gets and buy among your own fans if that matters to you.
Brand-name schools and New Year's Eve demand
The SEC has faced the Big Ten here every year since 1995, a longer run than most bowl pairings, and the Tampa Bay Bowl Association runs the game. The bowl was a New Year's Day staple until the 2024 season, when it moved to December 31 to fit the expanded College Football Playoff. Selection order and tie-ins (the deals that send conference teams to a bowl) are renegotiated over time, so confirm the matchup when it is released after the playoff field is set in early December.
Big alumni bases help, but the schools decide the crowd. Michigan against Alabama on December 31, 2024, drew 51,439; Iowa and Vanderbilt a year later drew 35,382. The record, 68,085, dates to January 1, 1990, for Auburn and Ohio State. Michigan and Iowa have each played in the game seven times, more than anyone else, which says something about whose fans travel.
- A national-brand SEC school usually firms prices within days of the announcement.
- A lower-profile pairing tends to leave upper-deck and end zone seats available close to kickoff.
- The holiday date helps attendance: many fans have the day off, and a noon start leaves the evening open.
The clutch rule, lockers and parking
As of fall 2026, Raymond James Stadium admits one small clutch, 4.5 by 6.5 inches or smaller, and turns away anything larger, clear or not. Visiting fans used to the 12-by-6-by-12-inch clear-bag standard at college stadiums are often caught out. Lockers are available along Tom McEwen Boulevard.
- Parking is cashless, with no overnight parking.
- Tailgating is limited to one space per vehicle and must end at kickoff, so a noon game means an early morning.
- No re-entry once you are inside.
- Location: the stadium is on North Dale Mabry Highway, minutes from Tampa International Airport. Many visitors stay downtown or at the beaches and use rideshare.
Policies change; read the current Raymond James Stadium policies before you leave. Every Reserved Seat order is covered by a 100% guarantee.
Beach Day in Clearwater
The signature bowl-week event is ReliaQuest Bowl Beach Day. In 2025 it took place on December 29 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hilton Clearwater Beach beside Pier 60, with both teams, their bands and cheer squads, live music and contests such as a tug-of-war, followed by the nightly Sunsets at Pier 60 festival.
The bowl also runs an events calendar, member events and a charitable giving program, with 2026 dates posted after selection on reliaquestbowl.com.
Hall of Fame, Outback, then ReliaQuest
Boston College beat Georgia 27–24 in the first game, played December 23, 1986, as the Hall of Fame Bowl at Tampa Stadium, with about 41,000 in attendance. Outback Steakhouse became title sponsor in 1995, and for more than 25 years this was the Outback Bowl, the name many fans still use. After a short spell as the Tampa Bay Bowl in 2022, ReliaQuest took over that June. The game moved to Raymond James Stadium in 1999, when it replaced Tampa Stadium.
- 1991: Clemson shut out Illinois.
- 2016: Tennessee crushed Northwestern 45–6, the widest margin in the game's history.
- January 1, 2024: LSU outlasted Wisconsin 35–31.
- December 31, 2024: Michigan beat Alabama 19–13 in the first New Year's Eve edition.
- December 31, 2025: Iowa defeated Vanderbilt 34–27.
Frequently asked questions
Which sideline is shaded at the ReliaQuest Bowl?
The west sideline, the Buccaneers' bench side, shades first because the sun sets behind it. Lower sections about 106 to 115 and upper sections about 306 to 315 are the choices.
What day and time is the 2026 ReliaQuest Bowl?
Thursday, December 31, 2026, at noon Eastern at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, on ESPN.
Can I bring a clear stadium bag to Raymond James Stadium?
Not a standard 12 by 6 by 12 clear bag. As of fall 2026 the stadium allows only one clutch up to 4.5 by 6.5 inches. Check the current policy before you go.
Did the Outback Bowl change its name?
Yes. The Outback Bowl became the Tampa Bay Bowl briefly in 2022 and then the ReliaQuest Bowl that June. It began in 1986 as the Hall of Fame Bowl.
Is the ReliaQuest Bowl still on New Year's Day?
No. It moved to December 31 beginning with the 2024 season so it would fit around the expanded College Football Playoff.
Are seats under the pirate ship worth it?
For atmosphere, yes; for watching the game, less so. North end zone sections near the ship see the far end of the field poorly.
