Your Phillies seat, settled before first pitch
For a Philadelphia Phillies game, the smartest money usually goes to a 100-level seat one or two sections beyond the bases at Citizens Bank Park. The Field Level rises at a gentle slope, so almost any lower infield seat sees the game well, and prices fall noticeably once you move a section or two away from home plate. That is often the best trade in the building.
Two facts shape everything else. The Phillies use the first base dugout, and the first base side and right field take the most sun, because the sun sets over the third base side. So for a summer day game, you choose between watching the home bench and staying cool.
- Best overall value: Field Level, just past first or third base.
- Best shade: the covered top rows of the 400 level, or the third base side.
- Best panorama: sections 419 to 422 behind home plate.
- Easiest on the legs: the 300 level, with fewer steps than the 400s.
Citizens Bank Park from Field Level to Terrace Deck
Wikipedia lists capacity at 42,901. The bowl is organized in four numbered bands, plus outfield seating past a gap down the right field line.
100 level: Field Level
About 40 rows in the non-club sections. Directly behind the plate, sit the padded Philadelphia Insurance Club seats, in sections lettered A to G and priced above everything else. Ballparks of Baseball and Ballpark E-Guides agree that the Phillies are on the first base side and visitors on third. Families should look at sections 108 to 114 on the first base side, near The Yard, a 13,000-square-foot kids area, and close enough to see the Phillie Phanatic dance on the Phillies dugout in the seventh inning.
200 level
Largely given over to the Cadillac Hall of Fame Club, which sits above the suites and comes with access to an air-conditioned lounge.
300 level: Terrace
The lower part of the upper deck. Fewer rows to climb, which matters if stairs are hard for you.
400 level: Terrace Deck
High and steep, but sections 419 to 422 behind home plate give the widest view of the field and the city skyline. The top six or seven rows sit under a roof.
Outfield
Past the right field gap, the seats become the Pavilion and Pavilion Deck. Sections 101 and 102 sit directly above the bullpens, and every outfield seat is a short walk from Ashburn Alley, the food and fan promenade behind center field.
Where the South Philadelphia sun lands
July and August afternoons in Philadelphia are hot and humid, and the sun pattern at Citizens Bank Park is lopsided. The first base side and right field get the most direct sun for the longest part of a day game.
- Most reliable shade: the top rows of the 400 level, under the roof. Ballpark E-Guides suggests row 9 or higher.
- Earliest shade: the third base side, both in the upper deck and in the covered top rows of the 100 level.
- Late relief in right: the left field scoreboard can throw shade over low right field sections such as 101 and 201 late in the day. Most of right field still bakes.
- Club seats: mostly in the sun, though the Hall of Fame Club lounge offers air conditioning.
At night games, sun matters only early. In April and late September, the shaded rows can feel cold after dark.
Phillies seats with catches: poles, overhangs, Rooftop Bleachers
- Foul pole corners. Seats near either pole can put the pole in your line of sight. Section 205 on the 200 level has the same issue.
- Top rows of the infield 100s. The overhang helps with sun and rain, but on the third base side it can hide the left field scoreboard.
- The Rooftop Bleachers. Nearly 400 backless metal bench seats on top of the outfield pavilion, below the lighted Liberty Bell replica. They are usually the lowest-priced seats in the park, they sit farthest from home plate, part of right field is hidden, and they face the sun in late afternoon.
- The 400 level if you have trouble with stairs. Choose the 300 level instead.
Netting runs in front of sections 111 to 136 on the Field Level, so the lowest rows between the bases watch through it.
Mets weekends, Braves series and the softer dates
Spring training takes place in February and March at BayCare Ballpark in Clearwater, Florida. The 162-game regular season, with 81 dates in South Philadelphia, runs from late March or early April to late September, pauses for the All-Star break in mid-July, and leads into an October postseason. Under the balanced schedule in place since 2023, the Phillies play each NL East opponent 13 times.
- New York Mets. The fiercest rivalry, and weekend Mets games can sell out.
- Atlanta Braves. A long-running division rivalry, 13 games a year.
- Yankees interleague visits, when they appear on the schedule.
- Summer Fridays and Saturdays, especially with fireworks or giveaways, plus Opening Day.
- Playoff games. Philadelphia's October crowds are known for noise, and demand jumps far above regular-season levels.
The easiest tickets are weeknights in April, May and September. A Tuesday game against a less prominent opponent is the time to try the club seats.
Broad Street Line, tailgate lots and the clear-bag rule
Citizens Bank Park is at One Citizens Bank Way in the South Philadelphia Sports Complex, beside Lincoln Financial Field and Xfinity Mobile Arena.
- Subway: ride SEPTA's B (Broad Street) line to NRG station at its southern end, then walk about five minutes. Sports Express trains skip intermediate stops on game days.
- Bus: SEPTA routes 4 and 17.
- Car: big surface lots ring the complex. Buy a parking pass ahead through the MLB Ballpark app when possible.
Tailgating is part of a Phillies day. As of the 2026 season, it is allowed in lots A through H and M through O, which open five hours before the scheduled start; other lots open three hours ahead. No tailgating west of Darien Street or north of Pattison Avenue. The Phillies ballpark guide has the current rules.
The entry rules, as of 2026, follow a clear-bag policy (bags must be transparent):
- Permitted: a transparent bag no bigger than 12 by 6 by 12 inches, a clutch or fanny pack within 5 by 7 inches, and medical or diaper bags.
- Refused: non-clear bags, backpacks and drawstring bags.
- Tickets and payment: mobile tickets in the MLB Ballpark app, no screenshots, and a cashless ballpark.
Register in the app and you can use the hands-free Go-Ahead Entry lanes at three gates: First Base, Third Base and Left Field. Read the current bag policy before you leave home. Every Reserved Seat order is backed by a 100% guarantee.
Whiz Kids, the Phold and two championships
The Phillies date to 1883, have used the same name the whole time, and have never left the National League; they joined the NL East in 1969. Home moved from Recreation Park to the Baker Bowl, Shibe Park and Veterans Stadium, then to Citizens Bank Park on April 3, 2004.
- 1950: the Whiz Kids won the pennant.
- 1964: the "Phold," a 10-game skid that wiped out a pennant lead after the club had started selling World Series tickets.
- 1980: the first title, over the Kansas City Royals, in the Mike Schmidt era. Schmidt, a Hall of Fame third baseman, is widely seen as the best Phillie ever.
- 1993: a pennant that ended on Joe Carter's walk-off home run for Toronto in Game 6.
- 2007: the first MLB franchise to reach 10,000 losses, in the same year it took the division on the final day.
- 2008: the second title, over the Tampa Bay Rays, clinched at home.
- 2012: the NHL Winter Classic drew 46,967 to the ballpark.
- 2026: Citizens Bank Park was chosen to host the All-Star Game.
The club has eight pennants (1915, 1950, 1980, 1983, 1993, 2008, 2009 and 2022) and 13 NL East titles, including five in a row from 2007 to 2011 and back-to-back crowns in 2024 and 2025. Retired numbers are 1, 14, 15, 20, 32, 34 and 36, along with honorees from before uniforms carried numbers. Beyond the Mets, the main rivals are Atlanta, Washington and the cross-state Pittsburgh Pirates. Watch for the Liberty Bell replica in right field, which rings after Phillies home runs.
